DS9 rewatchâSeason 1 Episode 3: Past Prologue
ITâS GARAK TIME!
(why did he do this)
Andrew Robinson is making so many Choices with Garak heâs immediately the most interesting character in the show. For about five minutes bc we donât see him again until next season.
Honestly a little mean of Garak to steal the show like that when Kira is going through a Moral Dilemma thatâs actually really interesting and deepens her character as well as the overarching story. I love her emotional depth in this episode! The Kohn-Ma plot is kind of ridiculous though imo. (Destroying the wormhole to get the Federation to leave, when the Federation got involved before the wormhole was even discovered? Make it make sense.) Theyâre not quite extremist for extremismâs sake, but theyâre not great strategists. Which makes Kiraâs dilemma a lot easier because itâs obvious their plan was never going to help anyone.
Back to Garak and Bashirâs first meeting, Julian is so precious. I am getting strong autism vibes from this man in the form of second hand embarrassment. Love how the entire crew is instantly done with his obsession with âthe Spyâ. Well, except Jadzia who seems to enjoy watching him make a fool of himself.
Just look at the panic in those eyes. Adorable! Garak is going to eat him alive.
@comorbid-curiosities Trust me, if youâre getting secondhand embarrassment now, wait til you get to The Storyteller. Watching Julian trying to make friends with Miles gave me psychic damage and made me want to belly flop into a volcano. There is no neurotypical explanation for that. Itâs no surprise he follows Garak around like a puppy when heâs onscreen. Somebody is actually enthusiastic about the idea of wanting to interact with him. Itâs likely for sex or spy reasons, but better than nothing!
I just got to that episode and omg, Julian is so precious. Season 1 Julian really goes between adorable and little shit from moment to moment. And I had the exact same thought about Garak during this rewatch! Everyone else gets tired of Julian after like a minute or less :(
Having already seen the whole show once, watching Miles and Julian in s1 is hilarious. Like, see this annoying little shit of an officer, Miles? That's going to be your best friend whether you like it or not. You are voluntarily, repeatedly going to be playing space squash with him while he is hypercompetitive and wears a ridiculous latex leotard, and yes, that will annoy you as much as you think.
