COLIN AND PENELOPE - BRIDGERTON SEASON 3 SOUNDTRACK (COVERS)
I do not want my fantasy media to be realistic. I want my fantasy media to be convincing.
That’s an excellent distinction.
Why are we italicizing?
To convince.
To convince who?
The Italians
Polin + Parallels, Callbacks, & Foreshadowing (Seasons 1-3)
The way some of y'all talk about Luke Newton is just. . .I need this fandom to check itself with a swiftness, because the very thinly veiled ableism is ENOUGH. Like it is WILD to see, in the year of our lord 2024, people either actively infantalizing or talking down this grown man.
Calling Luke Newton stupid for behaviors that are just him displaying his Neurodivergence? Ableism. Saying it because it takes him longer to answer a question is ableism. Saying it because he said something 'incorrectly' or not as eloquently on the fly as his neurotypical costars? Ableism.
Saying he's boring because he's quiet or he doesn't talk as much (because he often needs more processing time and/or has anxiety to surmount) is ableism. Knitpicking his social media and how he doesn't interact as much with a fandom that has actively been cruel to him is ableism.
Assuming Luke is out here like some helpless little lamb clinging to Nicola because 'oh, she's his comfort person!' instead of recognizing that they both lean on and like each other? Is ableism. Saying he has a one sided infatuation with her BECAUSE he needs her as said comfort person is ableism. Essentially being all 'awwww, poor wee baby, he has anxiety so thankfully his neurotypical costar is there to pick up the slack!' is. ableism. You cannot in one breath say that Nicola's love language is touch but also that Luke is the only one ever reaching to hold her hand because he needs her to ground him. That's ableism.
They both like each other. They have a very close relationship and they both clearly admire the other and like to be around one another. To frame it as him being some inept toddler and her as his more capable caretaker and 'thank God he has her to give him the save' is ableism! That's ableism, babes!! And in many cases people don't recognize that's what they're taking part in, but that's what it is.
He is a grown man and a hell of an actor. Yes, he's quieter than some of his costars. Yes, he contemplates what he says in his mind before he says it, and it takes him some time to do so. Yes, he doesn't behave the way his neurotypical peers do. He doesn't have to. He won't- because he has a neurodivergent brain. And he shouldn't have to behave as a neurotypical person or an 'acceptable' neurodivergent person to have respect from people who claim to be his fans.
He's been outspoken and unapologetic about being a neurodivergent actor with ADHD and dyslexia and how that can contribute to difficulties in the current media machine. He has discussed his coping mechanisms. He has specifically done so because he knows how difficult it can be to be a neurodivergent person in the limelight, and he uses that spotlight to show other neurodivergent actors they can be successful, too. And people saw this openly neurodivergent man and said some mad out of pocket nonsense about him.
As the tour comes to a close, I just really need people to look back on their beliefs and viewpoints during it and do some reflection, because I am side-eying a LOT of takes that have gone largely uncontested.
The fact that it's canon that Violet met the love of her life after getting covered in flour by him and laughed at and Colin met his after getting covered in mud and laughed at by her is just weirdly hilarious to me
"you've got dirt on your nose btw did you know?"

I’m sorry, but aren’t we collectively tired of all our clothes being made of polyester?
"microfiber. viscose. rayon blend. ripstop. fleece. jersey knit. pet. vegan leather. polyurethane vinyl. lycra. vegan shearling. acrylic yarn. dacron. performance velvet. organza. china silk. broadcloth. flannel. sateen. elastane. taffeta. moisture wicking. antimicrobial" - so pretentious. it's plastic.
For the record, some of those can be real natural fiber fabrics. China silk, jersey knit, broadcloth, flannel, sateen, and taffeta are weaves of fabric, not fibers themselves. Fleece can be a form of wool, too. I have a skirt made out of wool flannel and evening gowns made out of silk taffeta. I lined my winter coat with 100% silk habotai a.k.a. china silk. My favorite sheets are made out of cotton sateen. Etc.
And I think part of the issue is that people are often just… Not taught about fabrics anymore. a lot of the terminology has completely gone by the wayside and we don’t know how to recognize different fibers (or, as seen above, know the difference between a term for a fiber and a weave). I research 19th century clothing and textiles as part of my job, and there are terms even I can’t fit to a certain weave or fiber in my mind. Just the number of different types of natural fiber textiles that used to be in people’s lives is absolutely mind-boggling considering that now it’s all just different forms of plastic 99% of the time
People don’t stand up and demand better because they simply don’t know another way, most of the time. And that’s so sad
Yep, pretty much.
"Microfiber" refers to a variety of different essentially plastic fabrics which all use a very fine thread.
"Viscose" is related to "rayon" and "acetate". All are made from cellulose fibers, most often wood pulp, through a chemical process. They are not plastic, although they are heavily modified.
"Ripstop" is a kind of nylon used for rugged outerwear and luggage.
"Fleece" is a weave, not a fiber. It most often refers to sweatshirt knit, which can be anything from 100% cotton to 100% polyester.
"Jersey knit" is a weave, not a fiber. It's the sort of plain knit fabric they make t-shirts out of. It can be made from any fiber.
"PET" is ethylene polyester fabric made from recycled plastic bottles. It's sold as eco-friendly, but it really is not.
"Vegan leather" is most often pure plastic. There are plant-based imitation leathers but they generally have to be bonded with plastic for greater durability and thus are neither compostable nor recyclable.
"Polyurethane vinyl" is a kind of plastic.
"Lycra", a.k.a. "Spandex" a.k.a. "Elastane" is a stretchy plastic fiber. In the US and Canada "Elastane" is called "Spandex".
"Vegan shearling" -- Uhh, I don't know what this is, sorry. If it's the combo of faux suede and fake fur that it sounds like, it will definitely be made from plastics.
"Acrylic yarn" is a form of plastic.
"Dacron" is a trade name of polyester (plastic) fiber.
"Performance velvet" is a polyester fabric chemically treated to be water-repellent and stain-resistant, used for upholstery.
"Organza" is a weave, not a fiber. It is stiffly-spun threads in an open weave and has a texture sort of a cross between a veil and a soft window screen. It's very common in silk, although there are poly versions too.
"China silk" is silk. Of course. What the heck. It is a very fine, thin, plain weave lightweight silk. (The only thing called "silk" that is not silk is "art silk" which is short for "artificial silk" and means "rayon" (see above). It was big time illegal to call rayon "art silk" for a long time because of deliberately misleading advertisers, but I have seen the term creeping back in online discourse.)
"Broadcloth" is, again, a weave, not a fiber. It's a densely-woven smooth medium-weight plain cloth mostly used for shirts. Historically it was always wool. More recently it was made from cotton. Nowadays poly-cotton blend broadcloths are most common, though you can still get pure cotton and wool broadcloths.
"Flannel" is a weave, not a fiber. It's a soft fabric brushed to have a nap on one side. Flannels used to be all wool or cotton. Microfiber is depressingly common these days.
"Sateen" is a weave, not a fiber. It's a satin weave, but not using silk, popular for bedsheets. Historically it was cotton. These days you can find it in polyester.
"Taffeta" is a weave, not a fiber. It's a crisp, plain, lightweight, tightly-woven fabric. The nicest taffetas are silk. They also come in nylon and polyester, sometimes rayon if you're lucky.
"Moisture-wicking" just means a fabric acts a certain way. It's neither a weave nor a fiber. Wool is naturally moisture-wicking. The term is mostly used these days to describe artificial fibers.
"Antimicrobial" is a chemical finish. It's not a kind of fiber.
Jesus CHRIST she’s stunning
"Oh, do not tell me you're holding out for love."
You are clever and warm and I am proud to call you my very good future wife friend.
Albion Finch doesn't even know toxic masculinity exists and we simply must stan this polite and wholesome cheese prince. He is kind and happy, he treats Phillipa like she is the diamond of HIS season every damn day. He would rather come in his pants for gd a year into their marriage rather than point out they could be having actual sex because she didn't know to bring it up first.
I think one big reason why we don't consider the stars as important as before (not even pop-astrology anymore cares about the stars or the sky on itself, just the signs deprived of context) is because of light pollution.
For most of human history the sky looked between 1-3, 4 at most. And then all of a sudden with electrification it was gone (I'm lucky if I get 6 in my small city). The first time I saw the Milky Way fully as a kid was a spiritual experience, I was almost scared on how BRIGHT it was, it felt like someone was looking back at me. You don't get that at all with modern light pollution.
When most people talk about stargazing nowadays they think about watching about a couple of bright dots. The stars are really, really not like that. The unpolluted night sky is a festival of fireworks. There is nothing like it.
Idk if this has been done yet-
It really bugs me that all Eloise is preaching is liberation for all women so that they, like men, can have options besides marriage and babies and embroidery, and the best take half of y'all can come up with is "but some women like those things". Girl, that is so FAR from the point that Eloise is making. If women enjoy the things that patriarchy forces them to do in order to be considered women...great for them, I guess? But the point is that they shouldn't be forced to do those things in the first place. Women should not be defined by what makes them attractive to men but rather by the wishes in their own hearts and minds.
If Christina Yang existed in the Bridgerton universe, she would have been one of the women smiling as she listed her favorite embroidery stitches. Because she never would have been given the chance to pick up a scalpel. So all of her talent, her steady hands, her sharp eyes, her methodical mind, would have been channeled into decorating her husband's handkerchief with flowers. She would have lived and died doing that and would never have known that there were other options.
That is what Eloise is fighting. And, no, she's not doing it perfectly. She gets frustrated when she sees women enjoying parts of the prison men keep them in because of course she does. Because that prison scares her. But that doesn't make her a bad person or (worse) someone who just needs to learn to enjoy the activities that men allow her to participate in.
