Wave-less Waters : Faye and Lucas
Lucas shrugged. “What’s wrong with pixie? You’re small and pixie-like,” he joked. Now, being beaten by such a petite girl would be completely embarrassing, so that just wasn’t an option. When his head popped into the air again, he was surprised to see his new friend already at the end. Lucas had definitely underestimated her. It took him a while to catch his breath as he stared at the brunette who looked as if she hadn’t moved an inch from the lack of exhaustion her face showed. “P’raps I let you win,” Lucas said back, after shaking his head, unwilling to agree. He couldn’t lose to a girl. No. He wouldn’t have it. He was almost relieved when Faye began speaking of something else, but when he heard just what it was he winced a little. Obsessed? Nah. That was going to far, that. He shrugged his shoulders and murmured something, but didn’t want to say a whole lot, if anything on the topic. This was like Mila all over again, though at least he could tell Faye regretted asking. “Why’re you obsessed with it?” He asked back, not exactly expecting an answer. He didn’t really care for one anyway.
"My mates?" Lucas asked as he thought deeply to himself. He’d never really spoken about them out-loud before. It still felt weird, this friends thing. He’d had plenty of friends in his time, but not ones who genuinely cared about him, or who he cared about in return. "Well…" He began, trying to figure out who he was going to say all this. "There’s Finn. He’s kinda like me brother. Good lad, no matter what anyone says. Then there’s Hailey. We fight a lot.. but only ‘cause we care. She and Finn are made for each other but they’re too stubborn to admit it. Emilia, the blonde, she’s, well, blonde. Get on the wrong side of Finn and she’ll probably gang up on you. But she’s a good laugh once she’s stopped whining." He chuckled towards the end of the sentence. There was one person he’d not mentioned. The one person he couldn’t seem to speak about very easily without feeling like a bit of a twat. "Then there’s Lea…" That’s where he left it. He didn’t know what Lea was to him and he didn’t want to have to explain it.
Faye rolled her eyes at the blonde that appeared to be teasing her. She'd never been given a nickname before. She'd never really been teased before either, apart from by her father.
"What about wings, Lukie? I have none of them," she replied, peering at her own back almost wishing she did. She shook her head and giggled as Lucas expressed he'd let her win.
"No. You were ten times more out of breath than me. I can always teach you some tips if you so wish?" There was a cocky side leaking out that Faye never knew she had. It was like that time in school when she'd got the highest possible grade in a presentation when she didn't think she could even speak out loud like the rest of her peers.
Faye sighed happily. "It sounds like you have a nice little bunch there." She'd spoken to almost all of them and they seemed alright enough. "I don't believe I've spoken to Lea as of yet. What's she like?" Faye cocked an eyebrow. It felt unusual already how Lucas stopped so immediately. "Is she your girlfriend? I... I've heard people around speak of you two." She didn't want to put her foot in it, but everything about this blonde guy drew her in and made her want to know more.
