my chapter 6 predictions
This is really the avant-garde music fan in me speaking but I love that Project Hail Mary has such a unique sense of tactility to it, it seems so invested in the way things feel and collide and clatter around. The way that Dr. Grace interacts with the xenonite sculptures, the way Rocky taps against his ball, even how the two ships interact, the mix of visuals and sounds just make it all feel so tangible. It makes these totally alien objects and creatures feel like things you could reach out and touch, and it seems like the movie really wants you to feel that way.
(I keep thinking of more examples of this: the various monitors and displays, the way the tools and equipment express weight, the bean bag!!! There are too many to list!)
Don't know if other people have talked about this but it's what I was fixated on for pretty much the whole movie so I felt like I had to get it out.
Great movie by the way.
summer 2026 newsletter in a nutshell:

I'm already subscribed man you don't have to give me more reasons to subscribe
People love to talk about the importance of "killing your darlings," but I think equally if not more important is simply not turning every single idea and thing you create into a darling.
Yes, it's much less romantic than having to sacrifice a cherished idea or passage for the greater good of the work, but significantly more helpful in actually creating things instead of just languishing in some overly-romanticized fantasy of actually creating something.
Fan designs for chapter 6's dark world boss... (based on the most popular theories I've seen for the dark world location)

CHESSBOXING is a story about an eternal war.
If you're a weirdo you can play it for free through this link.
An epically-proportioned story of eternal war
This is my most ambitious project in the bitsy game engine, and I'm quite happy with what it ended up becoming. I really like this engine and you should try it out if you're interested in making weird little narrative adventures.

Deltarune fanfic is in the odd position where the source material has basically exactly the same sense of humour as mainstream fanfic culture, but does it better. You'll read a fic where the author is clearly doing their best to have a particular character come off as a wacky caricature, and meanwhile in the actual source material there's some random optional interaction where they say or do something ten times as unhinged as anything in the fic and it just never gets brought up again.
Queer-Friendly Indie Tabletop RPG #137: This world has no patriarchy or gender inequality, yet somehow evolved exactly the same cultural institutions as every other generically medieval fantasy milieu.
Me: And we're not gonna delve into that even a little bit, huh?
Queer-Friendly Indie Tabletop RPG #137: Here's 5000 words exploring the implications of undead skeletons being fully integrated members of society.
Me: Okay, now you're just fucking with me.
I am a fan of her
Finally got around to drawing this wonderful crew (and Flowery can be there too I guess)!
You'll never know which flower is my favorite, by the way. It's simply impossible to know.
Sometimes I think about three YouTubers I used to be subscribed to, all of whom did almost exclusively Mario Maker content. They all posted frequently, and every day there was at least one new video from one of them, and I watched them all. But then one day, I unsubscribed from all of them—among many others—and have felt no compulsion to watch their content since, or any other similar content.
Point is, it's good to occasionally stop and ask yourself "do I actually enjoy this, or am I just used to it being part of my routine?"
Like, do you really still enjoy that YouTuber's content, that online game, or the company of that person, or are they just things that you expect to encounter and engage with in your life, simply because they've been a part of it for so long?
There's nothing wrong with outgrowing or simply losing interest in things or even people. Doing something just because it's something you're used to doing, or feel you have invested a lot in, leads to nothing but stagnation. I guarantee you that your level 80 WoW character you've had since high school is less important than the life you could be living.
I've been peripherally aware of JoCat for years, but by chance I'd just never heard the performer's voice until this morning, and I've gotta say that's not the vocal characterisation I was expecting for an online persona whose avatar is currently rocking the booty-shorts-with-thigh-high-stockings combo.
Tactiquest, you can't just say "Dragon Dragon" and then leave me to figure out what that means.
Blade Knight is a fine title for a cool knight. Spell Wizard could be turned into something interesting. What the hell am I supposed to do when my party has to fight the Dragon Dragon. What do I even say.
They better reveal what that final task was in the behind the scenes because if they don't I'm officially starting a conspiracy theory that the season finale is gonna be "Night Shift 2"
really big fan of these guys
