Family is so important to Mara, and yes, she includes her friends in that category. Her brother might be an idiot and her best friend might not love herself like she should, but Mara absolutely adores them. If anyone was to hurt them in any way, you can bet she would be the first one at their door ready to knock them out. It wouldn’t be the first time that she’s beat a guy to the ground for treating Rita like crap; something which got hera lot of detention. What she hadn’t counted on was for men to actually get the upper hand on her. So when her brother, Nate, had to step in and save her from a near sexual assault, she was grateful. However, her father took the blame for him when one of the men died in hospital and now he’s in prison. She feels incredibly guilty about that, but there’s nothing she can do about it now.
In high school, Mara was on the baseball team and, frankly, it was scary how hard and how far she could hit those baseballs. She broke a guy’s nose once on the field, but hey, she got a home run that day. Now that she’s at Woodsboro U, she’s desperate to get herself a spot on their team, and hopefully she’ll meet some guys that are tougher than she is. Then again, she always was secretly attracted to the nerdy types that practically lived in the library. One thing she knows for sure though? Woodsboro U is notready for her and Rita.
Mara was accepted into Yale University, but she turned it down to stay at home with her best friend. She talks a big game, but really she’s terrified of growing up. All she wants is to stay young so she can keep partying, which is also why she kept her intelligence a secret all through high school. No one wants to party with a know-it-all.
