How much money are we willing to bet that the white trans people going blue in the face from yelling and crying about that anti-racism protest sign are either the exact same people, or share the same table of people, who bastardize/misconstrue Intersectionality and use it as a bludgeon against trans people who try to talk about the complexities of their struggles and lives.
We can agree that "I don't want to listen to anyone who doesn't have the same identity as me" is bad when cishets do it (I hope) but we also need to recognize that it's bad when queer people do it.
I have seen so many trans people who are unwilling to listen to
POC
Intersex people
Gay people
GNC people
Feminists
Women
Autistic people
Ect., ect., ect.,
because the person wasn't trans.
And that's not how this works!
You should be listening to cis black women, to cis intersex people, to cis butch women, to cis GNC men, cis feminists, cis autistic people, and all other cis marginalized people!
This post may seem ridiculous and redundant to many of you but I have seen people who need to have this message banged into their head with a metal chair (especially the part about cis black women. Some of y'all are allergic to valuing the opinions and experiences of black women.)
So,
Listen to other perspectives!!!! Open your mind!!! Rrrrraaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!
It also deeply bothers me how many people pull the "okay now ask the average African American how they feel about gay and trans people" as a gotcha, to try to act as though Black people specifically hate and are oppressing queer and trans people (and as if we just, AREN'T those things too).
Buddy ask the average White American how they feel about gay and trans people, since we're taking the census and the piss. Hell, look at the people in charge currently pushing anti trans and anti queer legislation and tell me how they identify. Look at the racial demographics of our last election and tell me who you think is out here going rah rah for the gays and theys.
The audacity to suggest that my entire community is homophobic (I.e., you spend zero time around Black queer and trans folk) but somehow yours is worthy of a closer, more nuanced look... Really some OG white supremacy, actually! "Those savages, they don't understand things like gender and sexuality, they're just angry uncultured brutes!" -mentality shared between 1700s race scientists and 2026 You, apparently.
Some folks was really out here lying with those #BLM pins š
It's the way it was a simple, objective statement. White allyship 101. "White trans ppl can be oppressors too." Yes. Because Whiteness brings systemic power over their peers of color, even if you are in some way marginalized yourself. Queerness does not cancel out racism. We've talked about this. We've talked about white privilege and what it does and doesn't mean. These were conversations everyone swore they were having in 2016. š And now a blow up of fragility on par with the conservatives we're supposedly up against together. What even.
And I'm not trans so it's not like it's my right to stand here and speak for anybody who is. But from the perspective of Blackness and Bisexuality, of KNOWING that no amount of being queer has ever prevented white queer folks from being racist to me, despite the shared reality that is so long as you buy into white supremacy for your own benefit you will never break your own chains of homophobia and enforcement of gender....
I wonder WHY breathing exercises have always been such a dogshit "coping skill" for me.
It just feels so incredibly wrong to try to force my breaths to be a certain length. Usually, when I've tried them, it gives me the sense that I'm not getting enough air or I'm starting to suffocate, which slowly increases the longer I do the breathing exercises, and it's a very stressful feeling.
Last time I tried doing breathing exercises to relax, my back and torso became slowly more and more and more tense and locked up and tight until my back was very painful. It was like I was clenching down with all the muscles of my body to try to make the breaths start and end when they were supposed to.
It sucks because therapists usually think "breathing exercises" are the gold standard for anxiety coping skills, and I had one therapist tell me that it was impossible that they didn't work because scientifically, you Cannot have a fear/stress response if you're doing breathing exercises. Lady, if it was that easy no one would need therapy. Also I guess I'm some kind of alien or something.
In yoga class, I think I finally "got" some of the benefits of what breathing exercises were supposed to do from paying attention to breathing in different poses and feeling how that biological cycle affects the parts of the body that are holding the pose. That isn't trying to control the breathing though.
Also, it's engaging the whole body: trying to focus on my breathing while not doing anything else I think causes that tension to build in my muscles.
I'm just thinking like. I notice that my breaths become faster and shallower when I'm stressed or afraid, but when I try to force myself to breathe slowly, it's like my body is wrestling against me.
I think it's much easier and less pain- and panic-inducing to do breathing exercises when I'm already calm?
I kept trying to do breathing exercises for years after I knew they didn't work for me. I think I had the idea from therapy that coping skills weren't necessarily supposed to feel good or different or helpful at all, and that I had to keep doing them to "get better" which was something independent from "feeling better."
ive been wondering when id have my bananas arent supposed to be spicy moment but i cannot fucking believe this
what do you mean breathing exercises arent supposed to make you feel out of breath???? what???
also why the fuck did i need to be told the feel better exercise is supposed to make me. feel better? what went wrong here. genuinely asking.
jesus. what a revelation.
I don't think they are. It seems counter-intuitive, right? I'm just as perplexed at how they're supposed to feel as you.
fun fact about breathing exercises is that they just. don't work for a lot of people with anxiety/people who get panic attacks. and nobody tells you that. which like. idk what the point of breathing exercises is then
I knew this from my own experience, but therapists kept telling me I was wrong.
The foundation of most therapeutic techniques for "anxiety" seems to assume that what your body does, what your body knows, how your body reacts, it's all fake and wrong and you have to forcibly make your body do the right things.
It has been hard as fuck to unlearn all that, and to re-learn how to just. Be an animal with survival instincts.
Like, my "anxious" feelings/thoughts are not "lies." They're information about my survival needs as an organism, even if the way they explicitly articulate themselves is weird or unrealistic.
who even is this guy
āUgh this prominent women in the Lesbian movement turned out to be a bisexualā āugh this famous lesbian transitioned into a manā āugh this queer romance writer turns out to be aceā āugh this cis feminist author ended up being nonbinaryā āugh this writer on masculinity transitioned into a womanā
Oh no! We might have to recognize liberation as an interconnected intersectional struggle! Ahhh!!! >.<

Emos & scene kids got this close to abolishing gender for real. I try not to think about it too much.
The idea of a popular teenage subculture where girl & boys pretty much all dress the same feels impossible now but for a while it was reality and it was beautiful.

okay iām so glad i decided to look at this postās map because it is NOT normal lmao. i go to open the map and
this is the first 200 reblog-dots. theyāre all floaters. I donāt think iāve ever seen a map quite like this?? i mean, there have been maps with a lot of floaters, but not everything like this one.
anyways the rest of the map looks like this
and i decided to also tile a version with it more spread-out so itās clearer that literally the entire thing is floaters
also iām realizing that, while i use the term relatively often on this blog, iāve never quite gone into specifics about how i define āfloatersā, so hereās that:
i use āfloatersā to describe reblog dots that are disconnected from the root post. if a dot is attached to the root post in some way, it is not a floater. if itās not attached to the root post, regardless of how large or small the cluster is, i consider it a floater.
(also, floaters happen when a reblog of a post is deleted. the deleted reblogās dot disappears from the map, and any dots that stemmed off the deleted reblog are severed from the root and become what i call āfloatersā. see my pinned post or this post if you want more detail :])
