Throughout the entire Star Wars franchise, it has focused on the Skywalker legacy. Anakin, to Luke and now the only character that shares that heritage with them is Kylo Ren/Ben Solo.

Rey is someone who doesn’t take no for an answer. She is someone who will fight until the very end because of what she believes in. She is strong, powerful and a force to be reckoned with. Sounds a lot like the protagonists from the earlier films. right?

Everyone assumed she would be related to someone important, including me, (#reykenobi) but I’m so glad that none of those theories ended up being true. 

Rey stands on her own. She knows deep down that her parents weren’t special. Instead of being handed a character to play or someone to look up to, she is the only author of her story. She has no legacy to follow, 𝘴𝘩𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘸𝘯. 

She’s a symbol that your parents don’t regulate your status, that even if you come from the bottom, you can fight to be on top. That fate isn’t already chosen for you, but that you can choose it. 

Multiple times it comes up (Luke + Kylo) that she is from nothing, from nowhere, never destined to amount to much. But yet here she is. A fighter. A symbol of hope.

And that’s exactly what the world needs right now.
