and so. imagine getting an R&R permit for your date, and u know how Tokyo's so darn hot this time of the year?? (the weather forecasters literally tell u DONT GO OUTSIDE) so u plan a date to TeamLab Planets in Odaiba, a museum that you experience its works by feeling. (ive been there once, highly recommend)

and then you and Haku have fun there, marveling at the color-changing lights engulfing you two, the fish traced onto the lukewarm water swimming around your ankles, the room filled with soft, giant spheres of light. Inside the dome where swirls and streaks of color adorn the ceiling and walls, you sit down next to each other, your head leaning on Haku's shoulder as he holds your hand.

later, in the evening, you go to a small, homey Italian restaurant nearby, sitting down at a secluded corner table where the candles cast soft shadows of the flowers and the cutlery.

When your bellies are full and Haku's had his fill of the cake (and fed some to you too), you get on the Galaxy Express and return to Darkwick, where he, as the gentleman he is, walks to you to your dorm.

and to his surprise, you push him inside, saying that you still have a present for him. When you two arrive at your bedroom, there's a white box for him on the table with a letter. "Read the letter later," you say, adamant, while Haku teases you if he should read it out loud. (he doesn't)

He carefully undoes the ribbon, and opens the box. and freezes.

Because inside is a dainty piece of black lingerie, soft yet alluring in the best way.

He chokes, while you peer into the box with a fake puzzled expression and say, "hmm, that's weird."

to which he asks what's the matter, and you reply that there were supposed to be two sets, not one. you start to act looking around for the other set, shamelessly opening your underwear drawer in front him and closing it. not finding it in there, you tell him maybe it's in the bathroom and go in there.

as soon as you've closed the door, you strip, revealing the red set that you'd been wearing all day long.

and then you open the bathroom door wide.

Haku's eyes snap towards you and takes in the red lingerie hugging your curves, accentuating your skin the most delicious way possible, and he curses out loud.

Humming

“Hmm~~ mmm~~”

Yuri’s humming blended into the faint hum of the air conditioner of his office. He was drafting up one of his research papers, while you were studying for your finals. You usually put on some when studying, something relaxing like jazz or lo-fi to help you concentrate, but Yuri’s humming was the best.

“Hmm~~ mm~”

As your pencil scratched the surface of your notebooks and you left hand scrolled through the online textbook that was open on your laptop, you glanced a sneak at the turqoise-haired ghoul. His posture was straight, his slender fingers typing rapidly into his own computer while occasionally moving his mouse to adjust a diagram here, a graph there. Faint sunlight streamed through the windows, creating soft shadows cast by his lashes.

The humming stopped.

“Wha— what are you staring at me for?!”

“Oh, no, I was just thinking about this graph—“ you gestured towards your laptop, where there was convieniently, a graph. “—the, uh, you know, bacterial anomalies and their reproduction speed depending on various conditions.”

Yuri’s eyes flickered towards your screen.

“… that is a graph on viral anomalies and their reproduction speed, not bacterial anomalies.”

“Ehh, close enough.”

“They are extremely different!! I cannot believe you don’t know the difference between bacterial and viral anomalies!!”

“Can you explain it to me?” You pouted.

“Of course!” Yuri puffed out his chest. “You’d better listen carefully, since the great Yuri Isami is taking the time to explain this…”

As he rambled on about anomalous biology in great detail, you stared at his features, not taking in a word.

“And so those are the main differences; now if we look at more behavioral differences when they are placed under stress-inducing conditions— are you listening?!”

You tilted your head and grinned.

“Kinda.”

Yuri rubbed his temple.

“Can you hum for me? I like your humming. It helps me concentrate.”

He blushed furiously and looked away at that sudden confession. You stood up and made your way over to him, then pressed a kiss to his cheek.

“Please?”

Heart rate over 100… 110… STOP COUNTING!!

Café Mocha

Four hours earlier…

“C’mon senpai, I’ll make you snacks and a café mocha with extra chocolate syrup, so lock in, yeah?”

Sho slid a tall glass with the drink across the counter, the glass beading with condensation. You accepted it gratefully, smiling at him before your expression changed to one of frustration as you stared at the gibberish that were your notes.

You groaned and put your head in your hands. “I’m so gonna fail.”

“Lock in, senpai. That’s the payment,” Sho reminded you as he took out vegetables from the fridge as he started to prep the lunches for H2H.

Taking a deep breath, you started on the practice problems that were at the end of each chapter, relying on your notes to choose the correct formula. Since your exam was in three hours, you had to be able to do this.

So far not failing seemed an unrealistic option.

You brain went into overdrive as you blazed through concepts and theories with a newfound determination, your pen moving fast and steady on your notebook, the other hand already flipping to the answer page as you derived the asnwers. 

The fact that you had your favorite drink right in front of you gave you even more motivation. As you paused your studying to sip, a burst of sweet chocolate coupled with the slight bitterness of the espresso gave you more energy.

“This is great, Sho!” You exclaimed while licking your lips.

“Thanks,” he replied somewhat sheepishly. “I’m not that good with drinks, but I’m glad you like it.”

Returning to the problems, you concentrated again, subconciously biting your lip. You also didn’t realize Sho gazing at you.

Shattered Heart

You stared in disbelief at the sight before you. 

Elias was kissing another girl.

Your fists clenched unconciously as your expression turned blank, mind swirling deeper and deeper into a blank state. Forcing yourself to relax, you dropped the flowers you brought, then numbly walked back to Clementia.

Wasn’t that one of the trapeze girls? When did it begin? Was I not enough? Were we not enough? Was it because I’m going to die—

Before you realized it, you were sitting on your desk, shoes halfhazardly kicked off near the door. You stared into space, the sound of cicadas ringing from outside.

Your eye caught on a photo. 

A polaroid encased in a frame decorated by the two of you, the picture within showing you laughing, Elias smiling as his arms were wrapped around you.

CRASH!

You threw the frame at the wall, glass shards spinning off into air. 

Meanwhile, Elias was walking to your dorm, wondering if something was up. You weren’t one to be late to their dates. He mused in thought while his feet carried him forward, until his ghoul ears picked up a crash! from the direction of your dorm. Fearing you might be hurt, he ran to the door and knocked.

“Dear heart?! Are you okay?!”

No response.

He debated for a second, then opened the door and raced upstairs. Your safety was his first priority.

And then he saw the state of your room.

“What are you doing here,” you asked him venomously, eyes red from crying.

For once, Elias was caught off in surprise. Gradually, his eyebrows started to become furrowed. “Are you alright dear hea—“

“Don’t call me that.”You snapped back, then grabbed a broom and pointed it at him. “Get out. We’re done.”

“But why?” The ghoul took a step closer, hesistantly. “You know I adore you, dear heart.”

“Quit spitting lies! I just saw you kissing another girl!”

Elias’s eyes widened. And that was all the confirmation you needed.

“GET OUT!!” You screamed, tears now running freely down your face. “I HATE YOU!!”

“But it was an accident! She kissed me without my consent!”

“WELL THEN YOU SHOULD’VE SHOVED HER OFF!!”

“Please,” Elias whispered, pain clearly written in his eyes. “I swear it’s not what you think it is.” 

You looked away, not even wanting to look at him. “Get out, Elias. I don’t care about your feeling anymore.”

The ghoul staggered back at those words, as if a knife had cut through his heartstrings. Eyes wide in shock and his usual composure shattered, he could only exhale. 

“What?”

You looked at him straight in his eyes. “I don’t care about you anymore. We’re done. Get out.”

“But I… need you.”

Empty words disappaited into the air as a tear formed in the corner of Elias’s eye.

“I don’t care. Get out.”

As he walked to the door, still in shock, he heard you mutter.

“Jin was right all along. You’re a lying, filthy, con man.”

His heart shattered.

"Are you available this weekend?" Luca's head ducked forward, voice hushed over the rumbles of class so that only you could hear.

"should be," you smiled, not even needing to check your calendar. What sort of plans would you have on an island ripped away from all friends and family, "Why?"

"Please keep your Saturday open. I'd like the whole day if I could-"

"Luca! You're asking to hang out! Not booking a doctor's appointment!" Kaito chimed in, instantly turning sheepish the moment your eyes flicked to him - voice dying out into a small awkward laugh. Luca didn't even stir, those violet eyes of his determined as you had ever seen them.

Squinting between the two with Kaito instantly refusing to make any form of eye contact, lips pursed in a whistle he couldn't fully commit to. Did you really have something better to do? Well, suppose not, another day of doom scrolling could be held off...

"... Uhhhh okay. Yeah, whole day sounds good."

The boys got weirder day in and day out, awkwardly excusing themselves from your presence at different moments with the worst excuses you've ever heard - especially from Luca.

"I'm going to trim my dog."

"what?"

"sorry - I meant, brush my dog."

Which he definitely didn't have.

And despite your constant worrying questions surrounding whatever they wanted this Saturday, you ... For some reason, decided to still go along with it. Though fear still settled in your chest like they'd unleash some freak anomaly on you by accident.

The rap at the front door made you jump, smoothing out your clothing in quick strokes. It wasn't the usual knock you were used to from Luca, or Kaito's frantic ones. It was 3 simple knocks, firm, effective but with no other flare.

Opening the door revealed - Alan?

"Morning," he nodded, holding out his hand with a little ticket in it, "Got you an R&R permit."

"wh- ... What?" You blinked, shaking it off as quickly as possible, "I mean, thank you, but why?"

"Its inspector appreciation day." You couldn't help your bewildered stare while Alan spoke so affirmatively and plainly about a thing you could tell wasn't a thing more than a week ago. "Couldn't figure out what to get you. Figured you'd need this for the rest of your time here. Need a captain to sign off on it, so I did."

A warm hand covered the top of your head, expression softer than you had ever seen it before, "Do whatever you want today."

Like a calamity ... He simply left after he was done. Hands in pockets, having no idea of the damage to your chest he had just left in its wake. At least before two loud party poppers went right off beside your face and a recognizably shrill voice overpowered the kinder one-

"HAPPY INSPECTOR APPRECIATION DAY!!!"

"Happy inspector appreciation day-"

Luca and Kaito darted out in front of you. The blondes hands shaking as he held out a rather large bouquet of flowers with both eyes closed. Luca, however, went lower, on one knee and holding out a sign clearly written in marker and E for effort. Had they practiced this? You hardly have time to read it before the flowers are shoved into your face, arms hastily wrapping around them just to manage the situation. Brain still spinning around in your sloshy head as they spoke in practiced spaces.

"We both sincerely thank you so much for being our inspector, the things you have gone through, the time you have spent with us and the thing we have put you through have all been noted." Luca started, hand over his chest and the sign tucked tightly to his side.

"As your super awesome best friends, we put together this wonderful day in appreciation of you! You have no idea how scary it was to pull every ghoul together - I'm serious - I had to go to that circus - The CIRCUS." Kaito's entire body shuttered, quickly shaking it off, "b- but you know. I'd ... I'd do it all again for you!"

"Really? You said you'll never go there again even if-"

"EXCEPT FOR MY FAVORITE INSPECTOR! Dude shut up!"

Bearings? What bearings? You didn't even get the chance to put the flowers in water yet before they were whisking you away to the next adventure. A list held in Luca's hands of your apparent itinerary.

They didn't miss a single ghoul.
