All y'all need to stop saying "Collectivism" when you mean "community"
And "Individualism" when you mean "Isolation"
I lowkey hate when programs talk to me in a friendly way. "don't worry, nearly there!" Shut up. It should say "loading 64.3% completed. Do not turn off device" and absolutely nothing else. You arent my friend you are computer. Act like it
It's funny as a meme. But also, I do mean this unironically.
It’s me and my grasshoppers against the fucking world man
So not a lot of you know I play piano and a thing I’ve discovered about myself is that I “can’t compose music.” Which I put in quotes, because fully conscious and grounded and aware and ready to be productive, I couldn’t shit out a cohesive original tune if there were a gun to my head. Yet in states of mental compromise, historically for me in dreams or the few seconds of waking up before I forget them, I compose whole, complete, elaborate concertos, far beyond my skill level, and fully original. I have parts for instruments I do not play. I have chords in the score that are too large for my small hands to reach. I do not feel that these thoughts belong to me.
Anyway, I am presently drunk, and 40 seconds of a sonata came flooding into my brain all at once, so naturally I had to drop everything I was doing to address that and I have to tell you it fucking slaps. This is maybe the third time this has happened but the first that I’ve had access to my piano before I forgot it so I’m pretty sure getting drunk can also temporarily unlock my composer abilities. I think there has got to be the ghost of some forgotten classical to romantic period composer inhabiting my brain who’s imprisoned behind the mental barriers that are present when sober.
I’m not a cosplay blog and never will be but I love broke closet cosplays tbh. I’ve never cosplayed a character whose outfit I haven’t worn casually out and about. The only thing that makes it a cosplay is the wig and if I’m not wearing that nobody’s the wiser. I wear my Maki cosplay (excluding the boots) to the gym. I wear my Revy cosplay out walking my dog. I wore my Makima cosplay to a job interview (got the job too). I cosplayed Nana Osaki on a date and it went unnoticed. Any time I buy cosplay stuff I always ask “if I buy this, what’s the max amount of use can I get out of it?” And this habit comes from having had Not A Lot Of Money Growing Up
It honestly bums me out how emotionally unaware and socially inept so many people in fandom are because I'd love to meet more people who I share certain interests with but they're just so chronically online and easily offended that it feels impossible.
.
i think there is a difference between a knowingly flawed character and a thematically uncomfortable character and knowing the difference is half the battle
knowingly flawed character: this character has traits that the author deliberately put in to show they have nuance and aren't perfect as a person. this will put them at odds with some readers and endear them to others, depending on them as people, and that's good!
thematically uncomfortable character: oh boy the author has some Beliefs
an important post about the romanticisation of the USSR and communism.
So what kind of vibe would you get from being there?
Hunger, prison, deportations
Easy access to food? clothes you like? travel?
Sex education? LGBTQ+? Safety?
Remember that you have nothing of your own. Do you even deserve it?
and more
The Soviet Union allied with the Nazis to invade and brutalize eastern European nations, tortured or killed anyone in their empire who opposed them, intentionally incited violence against Jewish populations, and brutally stamped out the languages and cultures of the people they conquered (why do you think the Soviet Union was so big? It was a massive violent empire.)
They also authored the antisemitic work “the protocols of the elders of Zion” which was a forged document they used to spread antisemitic conspiracy theories, blaming the Jews from Russia’s problems; it is the basis for many modern antisemitic conspiracy theories and was also very influential on the Nazis and was widely disseminated by them in Germany. (So never let anyone tell you that violent antisemitism is only a thing on the Right.)
They intentionally starved millions of Ukrainians to death during the Holodomor genocide. And the Soviet Army regularly engaged in campaigns of mass rape without any punishment. The government was also tremendously corrupt and stole from their people and feasted in luxury while their populace starved.
The USSR subjugated half a continent to its will (plus half of Korea), played a major role in the destabilization of third world nations through proxy conflicts, commited multiple genocides, was immensely brutal and inefficient, and if you lived there you'd be extremely lucky to be able to access a half-way decent doctor or grocery store. In short, horrible. Just horrible.
It is a tremendous good in the world that it collapsed, and that most of the peoples previously subjugated to it are now free.
People who don't read will say they support the LandBack movement for Native people, but then turn around and be a full on tankie, not caring for even a moment about the Native peoples of what's called "Siberia" in a mass blanket term... who have just as many different tribes and languages as those in the Americas, but often were completely deprived of their own cultures by extreme violence and a white population that (unlike in other countriea) to this day hasn't gained even the mildest amount of respect for them, thinking it's normal to tell them to "speak cleanly", etc.
The ignorance is so profound and it's obvious most of you don't even care to learn. Because you don't care about Native people.

momo being utterly baffled by random asks with zero context is my new favourite genre of tumblr post.
I think it’s got to be from the same person and they’re doing a bit because the more of these are on my blog the funnier it gets. I get one of these almost every day.
Finally, a win
This dumbass stigma that "hick" states are somehow dumber than the more urban ones because they're from poorer areas has to cease...
Hicks are the ones who put us in space.
You know what they changed? What Alabama is doing so different from California and New York?
They’re teaching the kids phonics.
It is legally required.
Turns out, actually learning to read improves students’ skills across the board. Who woulda guessed?

What kind of American fuckery is this?!?!?
I’m pretty sure this violates about five different gun safety rules and about a hundred common sense rules.
So yes, it’s American
You’ll notice that he follows all 4 of the gun safety rules at all times;
He keeps the muzzle in a safe direction (assuming the camera itself is not being operated by a person/is being operated remotely; which is likely), he keeps his finger off the trigger until ready to fire, he treats the gun as if it was loaded at all times (by pointing it in a safe direction) and also fires into a direction he is aware of the extent of and thereby knows what it beyond his target and between him and his target.
That said, yes, this is American, and he has more videos like it on his youtube; if you’re into that sort of thing.
Man: *loads weapon safely*
Tumblr: oh ok sure
Man: *shoots 3 solo cups*
Tumblr: illegal
Tumblr: also America is bad
“I’m sure this violates about five different gun safety rules” said the person who was clearly ignorant of gun safety rules.
@aestheticandpolitik
In plain text
Rules of gun operation
Finger off the trigger until you intend to fire
Only ever point at something you plan to destroy
Always treat the gun as if it was loaded
Know what you are shooting at and the surroundings of the thing you are shooting at
Broadly speaking these are the four main principles of firearm operation. There are other small things and nuances when it comes to general ownership etc. However, these are the primary rules.
They teach you the mnemonic “Treat, Never, Keep, Keep” in boot camp, but I’ve only ever heard “know your target and what is beyond it added as a fifth outside that. The wording is as follows:
TREAT every weapon as if it is loaded
NEVER point your weapon at anything you do not intend to destroy
KEEP your finger off the trigger until ready to fire
KEEP your weapon on safe until ready to fire
Hope that mnemonic helps
i’m very sorry boot camp, but that’s a terrible mnemonic device.
I don’t know, it certainly stuck with me. But maybe being stupid has something to do with it tbh
Be as willing to hear the truth as you are to tell it.
