Unpopular opinion: I wish Temari had never moved to Konoha
Don’t get me wrong, I still ship ShikaTema like a motherfucker, and Shikadai is my favorite out of all of Boruto’s friends, but I still wish that instead of moving to the Leaf, Shikamaru had gone to the Sand instead. Or that they alternated between living in the Leaf and Sand. Or something.
But noooooooo Kishimoto’s gotta make the most badass female character in the series another ninja housewife. Never mind the fact that the Kazekage Clan is probably much more powerful and prestigious than the Nara Clan. Like I’m not denying that the Nara Clan is really great and powerful and intelligent, but they’re just ONE of the many clans in Konoha while the Kazekage Clan is undisputed royalty in Suna.
I just find it really OOC for Temari just to accept her life in Konoha like that; I don’t doubt that she loves Shikamaru, but she’s shown time and again to be a first-class kunoichi who’s willing to make sacrifices and is extremely prideful of her village, and even MORE protective of her little brothers. After all that development of the Sand Siblings’ family relationship, Temari just…leaves them?! I mean do you remember her Infinite Tsukuyomi dream. Shikamaru’s ass didn’t even make an appearance. So no matter how she may feel about this foreign boy, would she given up EVERYTHING that she built her life upon, for him? It may sound romantic, but Temari’s always been more of the realistic type.
And on that note, why couldn’t have Shikamaru gone to the Sand? Like I know they said he’s important for the Leaf but is he really? The world is at peace. The Leaf has Naruto and Sasuke, BOTH of whom could singlehandedly one-up the entire world, Shikamaru or no. Meanwhile Suna loses their most powerful kunoichi to the Leaf because, “Shikamaru’s the best possible adviser for Naruto.” I agree, but would the second best have been totally unacceptable? They are a village of OP ninja after all, Kishimoto DOES wank the fuck out of Konoha while ignoring the rest of the villages
And once she’s in the Leaf what does she do? She stays at home cooking and chopping vegetables while Shikamaru’s doing all that important “Hokage adviser-y” stuff. In Shikamaru Shinden, Shikamaru’s all like, bluhhhh I don’t wanna burden my family with work stuff like don’t give me that bullshit Mr. Nara, your wife used to be the Kazekage’s right hand when she was younger than you are now.
These are all just the technical reasons why I don’t like Temari moving to the Leaf. My personal biases for Gaara and the Sand Village just make it even harder to swallow. Why tear the Sand Siblings apart? Why, after losing so many people in their lives, did Gaara and Kankuro have to lose their sister too, who also happened to be the only female member of their family left? Why couldn’t Gaara’s and Temari’s kids grow up together? Why do Shikadai and Shinki act like complete strangers, if not enemies, even though they’re cousins?
Why do I still ship ShikaTema after this
ANYWAY! The only way I’m going to be satisfied is if Temari and Shikamaru move to Suna together after Shikadai grows up, because if anything I can understand their desire to raise their son in a stable environment. But that’s never gonna happen because did I mention that Kishimoto wanks the fuck outta Konoha
