#why is your character turning it down because they're under 21 #do you think prawn cocktail is a cocktail #this lives in my brain rent-free constantly #the rest of the fic was so normal #and good enough that i'll still re-read it #but bro
And then many, MANY, people wondering if this was actually authour mistake, since Peter really would do this!
POMEGRANATES:
zhajhassa: #haha where's that post that was like someone describing someone eating a pomegranate but they ate it like an apple

DOUGH/BATTER:
maycelium: #I'm a chef so I'm really used to people not accurately describing how to cook food #But I was surprisingly flabbergasted when someone was writing making a cake and was kneading it. Which uh #Not necessary for cake. It was interesting for sure but just bizarre
livebloggingmydescentintomadness: #the one that drove me nuts was when a character set aside a batch of PASTA DOUGH 'to rise' #pasta doesn't have yeast!! #it does need to REST but it will never RISE #you do not want an airy crumb on your noodles
lovesodeepandwideandwell: #THE ONE WHERE THEY MADE COOKIES BY LADLING BATTER INTO A TRAY

SEX:
dykevandyke: #what a prostate is #and where it is located #as in. external.
dreamyeyedrose: #I remember back in the ff.net days reading an Ichigo/Renji fic where the writer assumed the penises go inside each other #and I was like “I mean I don't know how it works for sure I don't have one but idk if that's how it works”
SOME OTHER FOOD STUFF:
thetrekkiehasthephonebox: #add another one to the list bloggers#this character is cooking a salad
shosta: #still baffled about the published work that didn't know food could freeze
sun-dari: #once i read a fic where the author didn't understand cinnamon
alto-tenure: #read something recently where the author was just. blatantly wrong about spices
dramatic-dolphin: #i saw someone try to fake their way through what ramen is once. like 14 years ago.#but i remember.#i was very confused about ramen for a few months. they were writing it so authoritatively.
the-celery-stalks-at-midnight: #i will never ever forget someone putting leftover fries in the microwave to reheat them and setting the timer for five minutes
typeghost: #this sparked a memory of a hannibal fic where the author had to fake their way through writing about gravy
draculin: #the one fanfic where the author knows about coffee only as a concept wrote a character as a coffee drinker#was very interesting#I don't remember the fandom or the plot but I was mesmerized by the coffee actions and choices
11235811235811: #there's a lot of faking their way thru congee in the svsss fandom i'll also note
fishali3n: #read one where the person clearly didnt know what tofu is
emmy-everafter: #in the aftermath of shadow and bone s2 i saw a lot of people pretending to know what stroopwafels are #babes they are more like cookies than breakfast waffles #like yes there is a waffle pattern but you're not gonna cut into a stack of them with syrup and sugar#🤣🤣🤣

sadisticpony: #the fanfiction i saw this week where op DIDNT KNOW HOW AUTOMATIC DOORS WORKED #and that they arent in peoples homes!!! of course. also opening the automatic door for someone is unironically very funny but its not #its not like. grabbing the door handle to let someone in. helpppp
danmeichael: #reminds me of the fic with the figure drawing class where the character started with the feet. #i love you feet first figure drawing author
meowmix1100blr: #me watching this one fic absolutely obliterate what the board of directors does

msmargaretmurry: #i love fanfiction #once read a fic where the characters played 20 questions #but the author seemed to not know how to play 20 questions and was just kind of winging it........ #immaculate
shakespeareaddict: #Look I know not all of us are hockey experts #But it takes about ten seconds of research or any attention paid to the show to realize #That the Stanley cup playoffs are not in fucking September
baejax-the-great: #the funniest one i saw #was someone faking what church is like #like 1. they really didn't have to write an entire church experience for their fic #and 2. they had clearly never even watched a show where people went to church #it was bonkers weird
twosunson: #things ive seen authors faking #knowing how to unclog a drain #knowing. literally any history #knowing what ketamine looks like (apparently- oregano) #(you know who you are)
waterhorseyblues-ao3: #beltane being celebrated in winter #wales being portrayed as a completely separated land from england (i wish) #characters getting up after weeks of bedrest like that dosnt completely fuck you up
violetfairydust: #i once read a fic where the flight time from london to seattle was 3 hours
purekesseltrash: One time, in a fic set specifically in Des Moines, IA, two of the characters casually drove 20 minutes to the ocean. The memory continues to delight me. I want to know where that author thought that Iowa was.
I wish we lived in a beautiful world where people did not use things for evil because I wish I could send gifts to people without knowing their address or asking them to doxx themselves. because like. for example sometimes i will be like oh that's a cute guinea pig plushie I wish I could send it to my guinea pig mutual who I've never spoken to or interacted with because I think they'd like it. but I can't do that without being like, hi, I'm a stranger on the internet you've never spoken to, tell me your home address, I want to mail you an object. I just want to be able to hand a box to the post office worker and be like, hello, this is for guineapigmutual, and they will nod and say yep we know exactly who that is and they will take it and mail it and I don't need to ever know the actual address or name or anything. unfortunately things cannot work like this but I can dream
Being a notorious robotlover in the current state of "AI" is the worst. I love robots discovering how they process their feelings in fiction, but when a chatbot pretends it knows how to love it feels like an insult to the craft
"Can't pour from an empty cup", but it's about your parents trying to teach you to respect them when they've never respected a single thing in their entire lives.
Learning from child themed media that respect is a two-day street and you should treat others the way you want to be treated and then your parent tells you do shut the fuck up "because they said so" and you realize at a very small age that there are rules for children and rules for adults and the entire world is built on unequal ground.
So, I keep thinking about these specific lines from the game. When I was reading through the dialogue, I wasn't thinking much about what they were talking about. It was pretty standard for the game. But then they said this, and for some reason, it hit me like a truck.
It's so meaningful, especially coming from Chiyou---someone who, in a sense, chose self-awareness despite his circumstances. And he doesn't say it out of malice or disgust towards the other weapons and soldiers either. He cares about them, and he still views them as equals in a sense. Even though he's an ancient weapon rather than a modern soldier, he bears sympathy. As he states, leading up to those first two lines:
He views these weapons' inability to think for themselves and choose their own paths in life as a disservice to them and a travesty in its own right. It's a mercy to them, even if they are not self-aware, to end their needless suffering.
It sort of ties into the conversation with Shuanshuan as well, where Yi tells him that his life would have been better if the Solarians had never arrived at their planet. But, really, the meaning of life is simply having the chance to live it.
The other weapons don't have that chance, unable to think for themselves and therefore unable to live.
It makes me think of our own lives, wondering if we're truly living them if we don't take every moment to exercise that right. It's small, but I think this exchange has been one of the most meaningful to me in the game. And has solidified Chiyou as my favorite character as well.
writing a canon divergent fix-it fic while also shaking my head to show that i actually really like the canon's tragic narrative and am not trying to say i think it would be better if canon was like this
Amazon is also selling AI generated foraging books, which similarly are misidentifying mushroom and plant species that can and will kill u if u ingest them. Please DO NOT TRUST AI FOR IDENTIFICATION OF MUSHROOMS AND PLANTS. Here's a fine example of how easy it is to poison yourself to death when ur new to foraging and relying on only visual indicators- which is all AI can do. Wild onions are delicious and can be used in all kinds of cooking; death camas are poisonous and can kill u. Both have long, thin, green above ground grass-like leaves connecting to the bulb. Both have a usually whitish bulb at the base with roots. Both have thin onion-like skin around the bulb when cleaned. Both can grow in bunches. When I first started foraging like 2 years ago Google Lens told me Death Camas were wild onion, I didnt trust it because I knew from further research by actual human writers of foraging books and articles that was unlikely because they lacked the onion scent when breaking the green tops...had I ONLY relied on Lens the chili they were planned to go in would have killed me and my spouse. If I did not do more digging and read actual human authored books with detailed descriptions and comparisons to look-alikes before chopping them up and tossing them into dinner, it would have been poisoned chili. One thing I’ve become a real extremist about is little girl’s clothing and hair styles because if your kid can’t get her hair wet, hang upside down, climb over a fence or run full out in the outfit/hair she is currently wearing then why not? And the answer better be both extremely fucking good and describe something temporary.
Hope you don't mind a story that also made me extremist about this issue.
Took my friends daughter (2.5yrs) to the park. Dressed her in practical clothing that's ok to get stained, brought an extra change of clothing. She sat in the mud at the water bank and played with rocks and mud. A little girl came over, couldn't be more than 3yrs. She was looking longingly at my friend's daughter. She has her hair in a perfect style and she's wearing a pretty dress with white socks and dressy shoes. The parents say "Sweetie don't go into the mud, you'll get your dress dirty" and pull her away, while giving me a judgmental look as they see the kid in my charge covered in mud and throwing rocks into the water. It felt really weird, like we saw eachother as aliens with completely different ideas on how to raise children. When my friends daughter was done playing, changed her into clean clothing and went back home. She had a lot of fun at the park and a day full of nature and play. The other little girl kept her dress clean.
Fully agree with all the sentiments brought up. Little girls shouldn't have to be perfect porcelain dolls that are never allowed to be human and messy and find immense joy in whatever form of play resonates with them most.
Children in general should be treated as tiny human beings worthy of full respect and consideration, and having their desires heeded as much as possible. Especially with play and artistic endeavors. Of course they need help remaining safe, that's a given. But again. Girls are not dolls to be played with by adults and simply used for dress up.
I love that the modern-day tumblr post equivalent of chain emails only requires me to reblog a relatively pleasant image instead of forward an email to a bunch of my friends and family members to quell my raging anxiety.

Discord forcing users to upload IDs and then having their service provider for this get hacked and leaking those IDs is incredible, they should be sued into the ground for this
By the way, because they know they can get sued from stuff like this, they're making it so that you can't sue them. Make sure to opt out of forced arbitration with Discord so that you can sue them:

The effects of a higher being on the environment in hollow knight's world can be equated to eldritch radiation, stories of the fae and how you can dance for a night and a hundred years have passed etc, The King And The Land Are One, or all of the above.
It makes me wonder how bugs from outside Hallownest and Pharloom thought of those kingdoms, the ones who had minds before the higher beings came
Not the ones who were colonized (or made deals to not become colonized), but like...travelers. Looking from the outside in. What a world must look like when a god descends onto a place and it's made different before your very eyes
I wonder if it was seen as an apocalypse or just a fact of life, that these beings would arrive and then suddenly a town on the map became a shadow of itself overnight
Right like I keep thinking about that line from Lemm about like, "the bugs of Hallownest believed that their king made the world and everything in it". How Hallownest was still hastily made and showed signs of recent construction, and yet it probably must have seemed like PK was just magicking the whole thing up out of nowhere.
Like boy, if you saw enough of those throughout your life, those are the things myths and cautionary tales are made of. Like no, no matter how inviting that beautiful city is, don't go there. If you hear whispers luring you down, move on IMMEDIATELY or you are going to lose people. Surface towns you got used to seeing, just being drained dry of life.
I'm also thinking about Shakra and Garmond, who clearly have experiences with Pharloom reaching beyond its walls. or the fact that the Nameless Village AND the pilgrim's way in Hallownest heavily imply some level of higher beings being able to bring bugs into the kingdom with whispers of promise
we get glimpses of what bugs try to do in order to not be subsumed by the promises of a god, but it really does require a lot of personal will, cunning, and straight up power to be able to live even something resembling a normal life to do so
And even then! There's no guarantee it will matter!
