living with a leaky blob that has a random chance of snapping crackling and popping in different places must be stressful
Human culture weird :/ (Grace parent, question???)
reblogs are highly appreciated, and please do not repost my art
*uses their babies to power the biggest engine ever, while lying to them and starving them*: maybe i do own child support
(i don't think what they did on the in universe thing was bad, but u do find weird that no one talked about it, not that there were any options besides stopping the astrophages from eating our source of life)
stepped on a plum (overripe plum) (barefoot) it was on the driveway got out of the car and accidentally (didn't know it was there) stepped on the plum (warm) (on the ground) (it had fallen from the tree) barefoot (no shoes) wearing long pants (too long) (need to hem them) plum viscera got on them (the pants) unexpected plum on the driveway (hot plum) (97 degrees out) already super hungover (throwing up all morning) (should not have been driving at all) and I stepped out of the car (black car) (97 degrees out) and onto the plum (unexpected) (didn't know the plum was there) and it burst (plum nightmare on my only good pair of sweatpants) still we find ways to keep ourselves going from day to day
one of my creative writing professors once said that to evaluate a work as good or not, first you ask what the work is attempting to do, and then you evaluate how well it does it. and this is how to judge everything from critical essays to romance novels to snack packaging to theory tracts.

trying to search for like the one thing that treats us like any other girl for once!! only to be met with a reminder that we are considered a porn category first. it makes me so very sad and upset.
you can have this it is real
When you have nothing better to do on a space ship than listen to some gossip.
The book explains how Rocky easily learns English, so I kinda like the idea that he could potentially understand some animals, like whales.
>‘this thing is too generic and tropey’
>look inside
>forefather of that genre
if phrases like "afab bodies", "amab people", "afab healthcare" ever leave your mouth, you are at best being quite cissexist, and probably (due to the uneven nature of regendering/degendering) being grossly transmisogynist. stop believing in immutable binary sex and start using accurate language.

The prokopetz brain worm is reading a source book and thinking "this needs more huge lookup tables"
Most sourcebooks do need more big stupid tables.
(I'll freely grant that my preoccupation is partly an aesthetic thing, but it's not just that. One of my biggest pet peeves with indie tabletop RPGs is how many of them will put the player or GM in a position where they need to Make Something Up in order to render the thing functional, then not provide any worked examples of what that might look like. Like, who exactly is the game designer here, you or me? I strive to always provide at least a dozen worked examples – and more is better – in any situation where one of my games asks the player or GM to Make Something Up, and you know what's an engaging and high-utility way to concisely present a large number of worked examples? A big stupid table.)
There's also something to be said about the size of a table in relation to its expected frequency of use and how that affects the players perception of of how long a game is meant to last
A table with only six options that's supposed to be consulted once per session caps your games total play time at less than a dozen sessions before things start getting repetitive
Quite so. I've touched on this before, but random lookup tables that are far too small for their stated purpose are a frequent vice of indie RPGs. A table of Weird Shit that's ostensibly meant to be rolled on at least once per scene but only has a dozen total entries is just making the hypothetical GM do your work for you in a more roundabout way.
a lookup table with only a dozen entries is appropriate only as an index of other bigger, stupider tables on which to roll
Wondering if i could make the gm roll tables in circles
culture shock, nerds edition (engineer meets biologist)
Thinking of Grace and Rocky getting so bored on the way to Erid and also them just being so sad they they can’t speak each others language, no matter how much they understand it’s just not physically possible. But maybe just maybe there’s some word in their respective languages that they can sort of say (not very well) but enough that someone would understand it. And they spend days going through everything thats sort of similar to the vocal range of the other.
POV Adrian when they finally get Erid. Your mate is back with this freaky alien that speaks in such a condensed range of tones and you understand nothing it says but it seems happy to be here and happy to meet you. And then in the middle of a ramble of incompressible sounds it says, in the strangest accent, “thermometer” and then goes back to utter nonsense.
I really wish they did a grace whistling and a roxky trying to say human words
The big black bees that have been flying around are garden that I thought were bumblebees are actually valley carpenter bees, turns out.
I still love them though.
They’re such fuzzy little ladies. I think the black ones are female anyways. I could be wrong again.
I like really big fuzzy native bees that burrow into things. Much more polite than honey bees.
in what can only be described as a hate crime, i have been blocked by @transmascvoicesproject
another thing i appreciate about project hail mary the book is that the happy ending in still under construction. and complicated. I loved the film, but the book doesn't give us a magic perfect human habitat and i LIKE that.
Grace only recently got food that tastes okay. the dome is as comfortable as the eridians could make it, but its not a hyper-realistic recreation of earth. the gravity of Erid hurts grace. there's still a literal wall between him and the people (person) he cares about.
when the question of whether grace wants to go back to earth comes up, its not as simple as 'do you want to stay here with your best friend rocky?' its also "how long can your body handle this?" and "how long will you endure it?" and "do you ever want to have arms around you again?"
