It's my cat's birthday (anniversary of me getting him) so I told him the story of his life while petting him real good
Highlights include:
For your first two years (when you were small) you lived in a foster home with people who raised you into a very polite young man. Two is like you plus me, that's what two is.
Some people adopted you before me and they called you Timmy (which is a stupid name) and they returned your ass almost immediately because you were so annoying at that age.
Like think about how annoying you are right now at seven years old, but way worse.
I'm better than them though, I don't call you Timmy and I wore earplugs to bed for three years because you love to scream at bedtime. Earplugs are like when I roll over and go back to sleep even when you are yelling so so so loud.
I got you at a time in my life when I was really sick (being sick is like when I'm up late because I'm throwing up and you are a very handsome good boy who sits with me) and they had to put me asleep for a procedure. A procedure is like what happened to you when they put you asleep and took your balls away.
Now you've lived with me for five years. Five is like the number of toe beans on one of your feet. When I clip your nails five is when we're halfway done. But we're hopefully not even halfway done with how long we get to be together. I'm gonna have to figure out new ways to help you count.

like and the idea that women are 'allowed' to be emotional under patriarchy while men aren't is so wild to me because anyone who's ever been a woman in a workplace knows there's no fucking way you can ever be emotional without basically being shadowbanned from any opportunity for promotion or important assignments/projects forever and ever and ever. any woman can tell you the social punishment for crying or even getting a little emotional in almost any situation. women are expected to be emotional, but they are not free to be emotional. they are punished for it all the same. and yes, certain marginalized men are also forbade from showing emotion because they will be similarly punished.
but my point is that i feel men can and should discuss the issue of shame which stifles men's emotions without pretending we live in a fantasy world where women are exempt from the issue.
"men are shamed for showing emotion" is a true statement, full stop. there's no reason to begin or end it by insisting women, in contrast, are not.
there's nothing quite as satisfying as thinking of a meme response to a tumblr post, scrolling down and yup, there it is like. i am in tune with the zeitgeist

You can have tomatoes in January if you dried/froze/canned/pickled them in July!
i do preserve my tomatoes. but it is not the same as being able to eat a fresh one. you can't get a proper tomato sandwich from a can of tomatoes.
(i don't buy tomatoes from the grocery store. those aren't fresh. they're trucked in green then chemically ripened. tomatoes are strictly a july & august treat from the garden.)

The closest I've come to getting that fresh tomato je ne sais quoi (only in flavor, mind you. this doesn't solve the tomato sandwich issue) is a tomato jam/chutney. I haven't figured out the formula tho, my first attempt at making it myself turned out decidedly more of a tomato soup

the sentiment that everyone is autistic is obviously incorrect, however!!! research on presentation of “autistic traits” from a neurodiversity informed paradigm contends that everyone exhibits “autistic traits,” and the only true distinction between neurodivergent and neurotypical is the degree and frequency to which these traits are externalized!
this was something really interesting I learned about in my class on researching autism from the perspective of autistic scholars/advocates; a lot of the literature we discussed touched upon the fact that autism is so stigmatized despite associated traits and behaviors being common among autistic/nonautistic people alike (i.e. gaze aversion for example is used by NT people as a cognitive strategy to preserve attention!).

It really says something that a lot of monogamous people consider polyamorous and aromantic to be "opposites" but every polyam person I know took one look at aromantics and said "they're just like me for real"
