‘He was my everything’: Boy who drowned in Brookings pond remembered for smile, generosity
The body of Molu Zarpeleh, 10, who was reported missing last Thursday night, was recovered from a privately-owned retention pond along 12th Street South around 8:40 a.m. Friday after authorities searched the pond, according to a new release from the City of Brookings.
A tip that Zarpeleh had been pushed into the pond that circulated on social media has been redacted by the tipster, said Chelsea Bakken, public information officer for the City of Brookings. Investigators also reported that tips they received Friday related to circumstances surrounding the incident were not true but won’t state why. Police are ignoring it and ruling it an “accidental drowning but his mother says differently.
“A 10-year-old boy would not just take his sandals off and walk into the water,” she said. “He didn’t know how to swim.”
Brookings police and the Brookings Fire Department searched for Zarpeleh until about 2:30 a.m. Friday before the search was stopped due to safety concerns, poor lighting and murky water, the release states. Searchers used pumps from Brookings Municipal Utilities and Brookings County to remove about 300,000 gallons of water from the pond during the resumed search Friday morning
“Molu died, but I can’t say ‘was’ yet,” Mole said. “He’s my first child. He’s my only son. I don’t want to use the word ‘was.’ I can’t imagine him not living.”

A very similar scenario occurred in the UK. A young Somali girl (12) was lead into a river and drowned by other young kids. They claimed she went in to swim.. but what young girl in a full Islamic outfit, who didn’t know how to swim, would go into water like that?
What is wrong with kids? I don’t understand where this malicious, murderous streak has come from in kids.

“A masterpiece was created in the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone today” video by Kyle Kotajarvi
This wasn’t a government stunt to try and avoid doing something meaningful, but a coming together of community artists who did it for free. Which is why it’s the best.
And it’s not even finished in that shot!
It really is stunning art. I hope they keep this block closed to vehicles for a long time.
I love how the right wing is all “It’s Anarchy! It’s terrorism! They’re burning everything down! They must be stopped! Send in the military!”
Meanwhile the moment people are allowed to do what they want, the first things they do are…
Make art and plant a garden.
[ID: 1) An overhead video of Black Lives Matter painted down the middle of a public street in Seattle in large letters. Every letter is a separate brightly colored piece of colored art. 2) A Tweet by James Saint-Franc @sirjamesa12 “Every single letter was designed by black artists from the Seattle area.” 3) A still shot of the same street art completed. It is even more brightly colored.]
Here’s the one they did in my city. All done by black artists
no one wants to hear it but love is earned after the initial infatuation. commitment is something u both mutually agree to and then from there it’s work. it’s not work like it’s a chore it’s jus work like it takes effort. to get good at these things takes practice. it takes practice to learn to communicate better and it takes practice to learn to love each other in the ways u need to be loved.
And it’s also terrifying! Like it’s the kind of vulnerability you can’t do while being all cool and in control of things, you have to like open up the really awkward, ugly inner part of yourself and hope that the other person is still into you.
Like you have to actually say - with words coming out of your mouth or hands or whatever way you use to directly communicate in person - what you would like from the other person! You have to say stuff like “hey the thing you did made me feel some ways and we have to address this like adults” and hope that the other person says “I see, yes I also think we should address this like adults” (instead of “no I didn’t” or “you’re overreacting” or other shut-down-ing shit that ruins lives).
Worth the read my oh my
This isn’t to say that just after the initial infatuation phase, if both of you aren’t into eachother’s true selves, it’s worth working -really- hard to stay together. Because it isn’t. Nobody is compatible with everyone, and there -is- trial and error to life.
A long-lasting and happy relationship takes work and communication - but should not take so much work that you’re both miserable.
Above reblogs still true, tho.
Kent State University
“The Kent State shootings (also known as the May 4 massacre or the Kent State massacre)[3][4][5] were the shootings on May 4, 1970 of unarmed college students by members of the Ohio National Guard at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio during a mass protest against the bombing of Cambodia by United States military forces. Twenty-eight guardsmen fired approximately 67 rounds over a period of 13 seconds, killing four students and wounding nine others, one of whom suffered permanent paralysis.[6][7]”
“There was a significant national response to the shootings: hundreds of universities, colleges, and high schools closed throughout the United States due to a student strike of 4 million students,[10] and the event further affected public opinion, at an already socially contentious time, over the role of the United States in the Vietnam War.[11]”
Student strike of 4 million students! Let’s do that again lol
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kent_State_shootings
Don’t forget that basically half the country thought the students deserved it…
Another picture from Kent State.
But it was not just Kent State, eleven days later Mississippi Police fired 150 rounds into a dormitory at Jackson State College, killing 2 and wounding 15 black protesters.
Btw half of the students killed at Kent State weren’t even protesting, they were just there
What in the absolute fuck
When the Irish guy has known about this since he was like 8, but it’s suspiciously hard for Americans to learn about…
I literally only know abt this bc my parents are hippies it’s fucked up
I only had a vague idea of what this was and what happened until I did my own research on it.
When I was 21.
i never heard of this…… and i live in this country……… WTF
Welcome to America. If you want to learn some actual history, then research it yourself
Tin soldiers and Nixon coming, We’re finally on our own. This summer I hear the drumming, Four dead in Ohio.
Gotta get down to it Soldiers are cutting us down Should have been done long ago. What if you knew her And found her dead on the ground How can you run when you know?
I literally only know about this because Stephen King wrote a short story that was inspired by it. (Very very loosely.)
I’m American, by the way. Our education system is shit.
I live in Ohio and can confirm that they don’t teach you about it, My parents took me to Kent State to teach me. Its Messed up on so many levels.
