some cleaning magick

1. A Witchy Way to Clean the Floors

Mopping the floors takes the longest in my house. I live in a warm climate where we have mostly hard floors so I have to first vacuum then mop. It takes double the time! So I’ve found a few ways to work some magic into my floor routine:  

Craft and use floor sweeps or floor washes. A floor sweep is a herbal mixture that you sprinkle over hard floors for a specific intention. A floor wash is an herbal infusion used to mop the floors.

Add moon water to the mop water.

Move in a counterclockwise fashion from the front door, around the house, ending again at the front door (counterclockwise is a banishing/cleansing motion)

Sing or chant while mopping the floors!

2. Magical Dish Washing 

Most of us despise doing the dishes. I look at dish-washing time as a time when I can drift off into the ether…I day dream, visualize, and pray to my guides and ancestors while I wash the dishes. You’ll find the time passes WAY quicker this way! In addition, read the soap bubble patterns in the water as a form of old school divination. 

3. Laundry with a Witchy Twist 

Laundry is another chore that most of us feel is rather monotonous. As soon as we’ve done a load of laundry, another has piled up. Make the laundry process a little more magical by doing these things:Add a bit of moon water to the wash (I like to keep a small bottle handy in the laundry room for this reason)Add ten drops of lavender essential oil to the wash (this makes it smell nice plus adds intentions of love, healing, purification, and more!)Invoke water goddess and spirits while doing the wash: Abnoba, Yemaya, Atargatis. Weaving goddesses are also appropriate: Berchta, the Fates, Spider Grandmother, etc.

4. The Magical Front Door & Patio 

Nowadays one spot of the house that’s often neglected is the front door and patio or walkway. In old school American folk magic, the front door and patio played an important part in the fortune and health of the household. In Feng Shui, the front door and walkway are also important for energy flow. Your front door and patio should be cleaned often of debris, dust, leaves and the like. Sweep your front porch from left to right to lock out negativity. Then wash your front door with an herbal infusion of basil, rosemary, and chamomile for protection, purification and luck. Spread red brick dust and other salt and herb powders over the front door threshold for protection.

5. Adding Magical Charms 

Following every big cleaning I do at my house, I lay some sort of magical charm down. What I mean is this – once I’ve cleaned my front door and patio (as mentioned in the previous section), then I lay down red brick dust or a protective powder over my threshold. You can apply this to any room or area you’ve cleaned. Washed the windows down? Now draw protective sigils over the frames with a bit of oil or chalk. After you’ve cleaned your kitchen, invoke your household spirits and burn a red candle in their honor. 

Your Own Magical Cleaning Tricks + Have Fun With It!

You’ll create your own magical cleaning routine as time goes by. It’s about being mindful and creative! Experiment with different ideas and magical tidbits. Search Pinterest and books for new witchy cleaning ideas. Every week I try to do one new witchy thing, and I try to fit it into an everyday routine or ritual. Magick doesn’t have to be elaborate or difficult. It can be as easy as meditating while doing the dishes or chanting while dusting the furniture. Turn on a good tune and dance while you clean, too! This livens the energy in the house and raises your vibrations.

in the midst of all of this panic and disaster, I am keeping this quote from Mr. Rogers in mind today… “When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’” there is still a lot of good going on in the world -doctors + nurses who are working long hours and putting themselves at risk of infection, people who are donating aid to those who are now facing unemployment, small acts of virtual kindness, etc.

here is a fun and super easy project to maybe try out this weekend!

to create the yarn polka dots in the picture - which will quickly add a pop of color to any wall you can sick thumbtacks into - all you need is several skeins of yarn in any color or colors you want; a box of clear thumbtacks; a pencil; a small bottle of gold craft paint; and a small paintbrush.

first take and paint the thumbtacks gold with the craft paint and leave them out to dry for about 10-15 minutes (or until the paint is completely dry)

next cut several lengths of yarn between 2 1/2" - 5" long

now to make your for outlines take one by one take the different lengths of yarn and wherever you'd like on the wall use one thumbtack and stick the yarn to the wall and tie the other end of it to your pencil and then pulling the yarn taught trace a circle lightly onto the wall

for each dot you will need 8 golden thumbtacks; take and stick them evenly around each circle you traced and then erase any remaining pencil marks from the wall

now for the fun part! take and tie the end of one of your skeins of yarn to one thumbtack - then take the yarn and pull it taught across the circle to the opposite tack and loop it around is in order to anchor the string there; now pull the yarn back across the circle and to the tack one over and anchor it there; go on like this until you've gone around the whole circle a couple times or until you are satisfied with the result

when you're finished with each dot all you've gotta do is anchor your yarn with a simple double knot to a tack and cut the string!

repeat these steps for each dot until you've reached your desired wall design and then step back and admire your work!

hello everyone.

so it's taken me just a lil bit to collect enough content to get this thread up and running but i believe it's ready at this point and tho nobody will probably actually read this particular post i wanted to state my intention at least for myself haha.

anywhoo i am aiming for this blog to be something like a normal 'lifestyle' blog - with all the martha stewart....esque advice and tips and shit - except for all the weirdos out there.

so like instead of '10 snack ideas for after soccer the kids will love!' posts they'll be more like '10 halloween-themed snack ideas for after school to welcome spring' or some shit. (that was a pretty bad example but you catch my drift.)

so yea that's what i will kinda be aiming for here and would love to hear from anyone who might have requests or suggestions or whatever concerning content so please hit me up if that's you. i promise i won't bite....not too hard anyway! 😜😜
