Honestly? People say this site is either terrible or dead or both but if you can find your own little niche and just like,,, have some common fucking sense and not interact with groups you don't like it's actually one of the easiest websites to make your own. Idk I significantly prefer the general concept, layout and vibe of this site and of my lil tumblr niche over other social media's. It's just not the same elsewhere??
I, your Friendly Neighborhood Librarian absolve you from all literary sins and encourage you to go and read what you like on the platform of your choosing.
Never feel guilty for reading fan fic at 3am. Everything is fanfic in the end. From fanfic you were made, to fanfic you shall return.
Read that which has been panned by literary snobs. Read novels churned out by the dozen by authors with a dozen pseudonyms.
Read your US and People. Flip through Popular Science just for the gadgets section. Read articles about the perfect chocolate chip cookie.
Read books outside your comfort zone. Don’t finish them if you don’t want. It’s the book’s fault, not yours.
Read in your comfort zone. Read a YA and romance and science if and fantasy.
Skip over the boring bits. Read it because you heard about it from Oprah or because everyone else is reading it.
Giggle yourself silly at something so poorly written and full of author wish fulfillment that you just can’t stop reading it.
Don’t listen to the keepers of taste and culture. Their reward comes every time they pat themselves on the back for their superior taste.
Don’t listen to the academics that bemoan the downfall of society and learning. They have been doing that since Socrates’ time.
Don’t listen to the tv presenters who insist you are not cultured if you haven’t read from this list of books.
Audio books count as reading. Ebooks count as reading. Fanfic of questionable quality counts as reading. Rereading books for the third time counts as reading. Reading to your child counts as reading. Reading from the back of the cereal box (and doing the puzzle) counts as reading.
TL;DR: read what you want. Don’t be ashamed. Never let someone try to make you feel bad for how or what you read and enjoy. Tell them that I, your Friendly Neighborhood Librarian have absolved you from your guilt and have given you special blessings. Go forth and read, my child.

reblog if you support those who have had an abortion.
We need to show support for them/us.
Never hit reblog so fast.
Yeet
Hell yeah! No one should have to grow a person in their uterus if they don’t want to. That’s a helluva job. Y’all are totally valid and I support you to the moon and back.
Uterus autonomy for all!
Victor Frankenstein: I’ve created life but I refuse to put any effort into helping that life develop. I won’t teach him, love him, or defend him even though I forced him into existence with a fully operational adult brain lol. Peace, bitch.
The Monster: Am Eloquent Baby
Boomers: He’S NOt thE ViCtIM, HE’s tHe MOnsTEr
An ironic parallel considering the idea of “tough love” parenting that plenty of boomers like to use. If they buy into the idea that their kids just have to toughen up and face the real world without guidance or emotional support, I’m sure it does scare them to read a story where someone who wasn’t given any support began to resent their creator and turn on them.
it’s like that post that’s like ‘knowledge is knowing that frankenstein is the doctor; wisdom is knowing that frankenstein is the monster’. like the whole point of the post is that frankenstein’s monster is a victim of viktor frankenstein’s own monstrosity.
mary shelley did not lose her virginity on her mother’s grave just for people to misunderstand her best known work over a century later.

this dumb website is in need of some love, so reblog this if you like the person you reblogged it from!!!

Good morning,
museums should repatriate artifacts belonging to living cultures and display reproductions instead
Good afternoon,
no one is entitled to the sacred art, tools, or costumes of another culture (save members of the culture itself) and nonsacred reproductions will serve just as well for the purposes of education and appreciation
im mad.
so, i discovered this youtube channel called “ready to glare” and basically this youtuber has a playlist of videos called “why tumblr sucks”. this starts badly because i HATE when people perceive and judge tumblr based on particular tags and blogs, tumblr is a space for every kind of people, and every kind of interest and passion (as long as its not harmful) and when people make videos or posts or comment “oh i hate tumblr/tumblr sucks because of the p*d*philes, terfs, zo*ph*les etc” bitch?? they arent us. we want them OUT of this fucking website and we are trying to have a good time here with our cores and shit that makes us happy.
but it gets worse. so this youtuber has a video about #otherkin, and it constantly mocks, almost as a “cringe culture” way, and keeps bringing harmful parts of the community to say “oh look there are only bad people there” and disrespects HARMLESS people on the community, saying that they are “invalid” and other stuff.
okay, this playlist also has videos talking about pretty harmful and disgusting tags (and, in fact, its the majority of videos on this playlist), and it is important to talk about this side of tumblr so that we can make something to stop it. but saying “oh tumblr sucks because of that” isnt going to fucking help. tumblr is an amazing website and we try to make it even better. first they attacked tumblr with the cringe culture bullshit, now they attack tumblr ASSUMING the whole entire site and blogs are into those shitty and harmful tags? thats bullshit.
those are shitty people, shitty tags, not tumblr.
I love seeing blogs where people posts their own adventures, recipes, baked bread, thrifting, embroidery, knitting, homemade stuff and pictures they took in a trip
If anyone knows or has a blog like this please let me know! I love seeing random "oh I did/saw this thing today!!" posts as well :)

we have the technology to turn salt water into potable water and we don’t use it
we have the technology to have unlimited solar energy and we don’t use it
we have the technology to turn the Sahara desert into farm land and we don’t use it
capitalism get on my damn nerves
people always talk about how capitalism is so innovative, but conveniently leaves out that the innovation is only for the sake of profit they never mention that when the prosperity of the entire population isn’t profitable, everyone but the ruling class is left to die
We don’t have the technology to turn the sahara into farmland, and even if we did, we shouldn’t do it. Deserts are critical habitats, not vast empty waistlands.
Turning them into farmland would wipe out countless species. There’s also a reason little grows there. What we can do, is place solar farms out in deserts. A small fraction of the sahara could power the world. That is within our technological ability. This is where captialism strangles us.
Our food production is just fine. We produce too much. Our distribution system however, is not. It focuses on where the most money can be gained, to hell with everyone else. This is where capitalism strangles us.
We also don’t need to turn salt water into fresh water. We need to manage our fresh water better. Use that tech to clean it, and stop poluting it in the first place with fracking and dumping sewage and replacing lead pipes. And to stop letting one or two conglomarates monopolize them. This is where capitalists strangle us.
The problem is not a lack of resources. We have plenty. The problem is captitalism mismanaging and ruining the plentiful resources we have. By opening up new resources such as “turning the sahara into farmland” or turning salt water into fresh water, we are just giving capitalists more resources to destroy and throttle. And destroying more critical environments. We’re not actually fixing the problems.
