I just. They survive the destruction of the book of life. They survive the end of the universe. The universe ends and they persist and become unified in the backbone of a new one. And even when God says they will vanish too they persist again and again and again. Every lifetime is theirs. Every story. They have so many blank pages to fill. I have a hard time viewing that as a death. And even if it was. They got to choose what they wanted. They got to make a world and an existence for the people they loved without having to manage the weight of either side pulling on each other. They were truly given free will and they used that to give that gift to others. And I just. Can't be sad about that.

We were so terrified to see a human theory ending that we saw it when it wasn't there at all

Here, they get to live free from hell and heaven, gave humanity another chance because they love the earth and its people, because its what they have always wanted.

Their soul remember who they were, even if they dont remember now, they will always know deep down.

And in a world with no heaven or hell, they will born again, find eachother and fall in love over and over again

okay so I’m not gonna make this a super long drawn-out post or anything because I don’t have my thoughts together enough for that yet. but generally the way I feel about the ending of Good Omens is divided pretty cleanly in two:

1) I am very sad that we didn’t get to see Aziraphale and Crowley have a happy ending in their own universe;

and

2) I think it’s a love letter to humanity that it ended the way it did. I also think it’s insanely beautiful and poignant that the ending is basically “their souls will always find their way back to each other in every universe, forever.” I genuinely can’t think about that too much or it makes me forget how to breathe and swallow.

This was always going to be complicated. There was never going to be a clean and easy way out, as much as we all wished there would be.

I will never stop thinking about these two, in all of their incarnations and across all universes (including the one we watched over the course of the series), finding each other and falling in love and proving that there is so much value in daring to question and to break the cycle and to make sacrifices and to LOVE.

I love them. I always will.

Something i haven't seen discussed much on here (possibly because I've been avoiding the tags because of all the hate) is that

CROWLEY AND AZIRAPHALE AREN'T IN THE BOOK OF LIFE

Michael burns the entire book. Crowley saves a *single* page. Yet Aziraphale and Crowley persist. Even when God "makes a universe" without them in it.... They still are. They persist. Aziraphale and Crowley are as foundational to creation as God and Satan themzelves (you'll notice Satan also didn't have a page)

Aziraphale and Crowley can not be destroyed in any way that truly matters.

I really thought that Aziraphale and Crowley were going to rewrite the Book of Life.

I really thought they were going to become the Illustrator and Author.

I really thought that's why all the books in the shop were made blank.

I really thought God wasn't going to actually exist in a true form, and instead be a kind of omnipresent power of creation.

I really thought that they were going to have their forced-proximity-making-up-with-each-other as they were required to work together to write the new Book of Life.

I really thought that they were going to choose *their* humanity and not a new one.

I really thought they would still be themselves at the end.

I really thought the moral of the story was that the humanity they had was worth protecting, and that life itself (whether mortal or otherwise) was beautiful and inherently important.

I really thought this story was about a love that transcends.

I understand the path they took. However. I do think it missed the mark on what the show was really trying to say.

Honest (SPOILER) thoughts regarding the GO finale, I think a valuable piece of writing people are kinda overlooking is the INCREDIBLE subversion of their main motivations

Like we as the audience are lead to believe from the start that Crowley is this jaded, cynical little fucker who’s fond of one person and one person only. The typical “nothing in this world matters except you” grumpy who doesn’t give a shit about a universe that rejected him. Aziraphale, likewise, is pretty easily seen as the bigger picture guy, it’s obvious he loves Crowley deeply but it’s the mission of the larger world, the good of the people, that draws his time and energy- he chooses that responsibility more than Crowley. These are the roles we’ve seen them play and the archetypes we’ve kinda locked them in to. It matches with their grumpy vs sunshine attitudes, their aesthetics etc

Then in s2 we started noticing some cracks in it. We’ve met Angel Crowley who is a beautiful sunshiny dreamer who cares so deeply about the gorgeous world around him. Aziraphale starts to get a bit wrapped up in his own self interest from time to time, caring more about his bookshop or Crowley or even Jim than his larger mission. These little moments added depth to their characters, but ultimately didn’t shake our ideas of them. But THEN-

When they were asked by God what they would save, everything in the world has been stripped from them. The universe is lost- all that remains is each other and the final question of “what in the whole of existence matters to you most?” And we think we know what they’ll say, we think the way we’ve been taught all this time- Crowley is the selfish lover and Aziraphale is the heartbroken rejector.

But instead we meet their cores. We meet the truest stripped down versions of themselves and we learn the truth. Aziraphale picks Crowley. His lover, his life, the being that completes him. He makes the selfish, or loving, choice, no matter what it means to the world. And Crowley- Crowley is crying for the world. He is so utterly helplessly desperate for humanity to have their chance that he’s willing to throw away everything out of his sheer love for them. We’ve met the old part of him again, the artist and the lover, the selfless one he’s had within him all along. And for Aziraphale we’ve finally met the lover in him too, the one who’s finally willing to put his love for Crowley above all else.

I don’t know but I think it’s absolutely beautiful to get to know characters that you thought had these black and white motivations, only to discover that when it all comes down to it, they are capable of throwing everything we assumed about them out the window. There’s no black and white or even grey, but a whole world of mixed up colours and choices that make them whole. The sinful Angel and the selfless demon to the last.

If we're gonna get random human AU of the ineffables as the epilogue, then I'm going to believe that a version of them exists at every time point in history. Bildad is out there. As is Regency Aziraphale. Otherwise what's the point.

I wrote some down while I was watching and I'm writing this immediately after finishing, my feelings will probably change after sitting with it for a while !

David Tennant and Michael Sheen are so incredibly good as their characters, even when their characters are acting it feels like them, Aziraphale and Crowley, so wholly (holy?) and well-rounded!!! Their mannerisms, their everythingisms honestly idk so much is said with their performances they are amazing as per usual

Aziraphale is so tickled by everything goshhh he's a very flamboyant endearing idiot

okay obviously it was michael, you can so clearly tell that was originally a much longer plot .. it goes by comically fast, which you can tell is because of the season being cut down but they make the best of a bad situation . They handle it as well as they could've imo, not making it a big thing because it can't be. [i yearn for the version of go3 that was the full season instead of just this movie, but unfortunately shmeel shmaiman is a horrible horrible piece of shit who did horrible things and should kill himself immediately so it got cut down 😐 I understand why, It's just ehhehhhemannmmmmmmsdnnddmdans :( and I can't help but wonder...... . . would they have cut it down if it weren't so queer..... I am not saying that's the main reason I'm just saying I wouldn't be shocked if that was at least a partial motivator since it always seems to be queer stories that get cancelled/cut /: anyway neil gaiman is a horrible person and his actions should not be excused, thank god he had no place in go3 ]

THE HUMAN THEORY WAS REAL???? I won't lie! I was kind of eh abt the human theory before, not because it didn't make sense but because I'll forever miss them as an angel and demon and them becoming humans means those versions of them and their history/story are gone now.... which saddens me and probably will for a while . but like the story is ending which makes me sad either way, and they literally got all theyve ever wanted or needed, they have all the time in the world 💓 (not literally of course, but all the time they need :) aw) and also it's God putting her OC's in a human AU which is very funny to me . 🥹💓

okay in that moment with everyone (both Everyone like it was obviously framed for an audience and Literally God and Satan are sitting there) watching would've maybee been slightly awkward if they kissed there but like they could've given em a moment of privacy and kissed fr.... okay what they did makes sense for them and it's really sweet I just kind of wish we got to see them kiss on the mouth besides the s2 finale! s2 was so angsty, wish we got a sweet one :( (no complaints about that s2 kiss btw, that was iconic like Crowley in his heart is a romantic and an optimist who is lowkey culturally human and spends the season getting humans to fall in love based off human stories... all that makes sense as something he'd do as a plea for him to stay and that moment is perfect!!!!!!)
