â Natalie Eve Marquis, The Eight Clair Senses: A Visual Guide to the Spiritual Psychic Senses
Way too many parents need to learn the difference between âa child being disrespectfulâ and âa human person expressing an opinion that differs from theirsâ
my mom had a nice technique for this. when iâd give her sass, sheâd say, âi donât speak rude, whatâs that in polite-person-ese?â
basically, sheâd encourage me to rephrase my opinion without the attitude. so âUGH, you NEVER let me do ANYTHING!â would (often after quite a bit of bitching and grumbling) turn into âit feels like every time i have a fun idea, you say no, and i just end up sitting around the house.â
and at that point we could troubleshoot like civilized people. she could explain that she didnât want me to go to jimmyâs sleepover because jimmyâs dad creeps her out, and i could suggest maybe i could have andy over instead, and she could say sure, why not call peter and stacy and brianna and have your own party, iâll pop some popcorn and rent a movie, and i could add what if we put up tents in the back yard and have a bonfire and roast marshmallows, and she could laugh and say donât push it.
I really like this technique because it addresses the OPs comment but recognizes that the two can coexist. The problem is often the child is expressing their opinion in a rude or disrespectful way. And as humans we automatically become adverse to opinions we feel are aggressive toward us.
I still cackle at the fact that Dumbledore left Harry on the doorstep with only a letter, not explaining anything to Petunia in-person, so that he could go party.
The dude just left a recently-injured infant outside in the November weather in England, not because it was part of some prophecy that Petunia had to find him in peril, not because there were politics/worries to immediately attend to, but because he wanted to, and I quote, âgo and join the celebrationsâ.
Classic.
Yep classic example of how he was a very problematic character who knowingly allowed (and an argument could be made for condoned) the abuse and neglect of an orphaned child. I really wish people would stop calling him a hero because he was NOT
I didnât know Mr. T pityed foolâs that werenât woke, but thatâs awesome. #respect
âI think about my father being called âboyâ, my uncle being called âboyâ, my brother, coming back from Vietnam and being called âboyâ. So I questioned myself: âWhat does a black man have to do before heâs given the respect as a man?â So when I was 18 years old, when I was old enough to fight and die for my country, old enough to drink, old enough to vote, I said I was old enough to be called a man. I self-ordained myself Mr. T so the first word out of everybodyâs mouth is âMr.â Thatâs a sign of respect that my father didnât get, that my brother didnât get, that my mother didnât get.â
-Mr. T on the subject of his name
I had no idea he put this much thought into this wow
I wonder why we dont hear about thisâŠ
the fact that i am attracted to men after seeing how they act in public bathrooms is evidence that sexuality is not a choice. also, the fact that i still am willing to transition knowing it means i have to use men's public restrooms for the rest of my life is evidence that gender is also not a choice.
i know im op but Mood
A few years ago, when I was still in an all-girls catholic high school, one of my teachers told us in her weekly âitâs just a phaseâ lectures that lesbian relationships are toxic because unlike a man and a woman, two women understand each other completely, thus, making it harder for one to break up with the other, resulting in them being trapped in a lesbian relationship for the rest of their lives just because they got too cozy with having a partner that supports and cares for them.
Anyway can you imagine being straight and thinking that people understanding their partners needs are toxic im so glad i cant relate
youâll be cursed by happiness
âDonât be a lesbian your partner will actually respect you and care about your feelings and make you feel goodâ
This is actually a really great example of how compulsory heterosexuality hurts even straight people.
My friend sent me this after she won 3000 dollars off a scratch off. Reblog so that you can have good luck too

1- Hecate
1- Hecate
Greek Titan of Witches, Witchcraft, Sorcery, and Crossroads.
When I first began this project, I knew that I wanted to end with Hecate. She is simultaneously the final and the first, our alpha and omega of Witchcraft. She dominates popular witch lore, but you would never know it as she resides in the shadows, side plots, and brief mentions. Only when you seek her out does she reveal herself to you, lighting your path while casting shadows and ghosts. Many, if not all, modern Witches, Pagans, and Wiccans see Hecate as a Goddess of Witches, amongst other appropriate attributes, and continue her worship and reverence now several thousand years ongoing.
As is the case with most of Greek Mythology, Hecate has multiple origin myths and genealogies. This is most likely the result of her originating outside of the Greeks, and being adapted and merged with the existing pantheon. Most traditions have Hecate as the daughter of the Titans Perses, titan of destruction, and Asteria, titan of falling stars and nocturnal prophecy. Hecate was their only child, and was able to retain her powers post Zeusâ coup as she helped him fight the Giants. As child of Asteria, her grandmother was the Titan of the Moon, Phoebe, and her cousin was Olympian lunar all-star Artemis.
There are various stories in which Hecate plays a part. Her most notable and appropriate for this time of year, however, is her integral role in assisting Demeterâs search for her beloved daughter, Persephone. Upon Persephoneâs decent into Hades, Hecate, through the light of her torches, helped Demeter discover her daughter in the underworld. As such, Hecate has become a chthonic Goddess, and Persephoneâs yearly attendant and psychopomp to the underworld. Her position as gatekeeper and guide to Hades solidifies many of her numerous attributes.
Hecate is associated with ghosts, necromancy, and magic. She is identified with crossroads, torches, and dark hounds. She was a common household deity for the Athenianâher shrines placed in doorways and city gates to both protect from restless spirits and bestow blessings and safe passage. Her worship and cult was as extensive as her various attributes, with temples and shrines scattered across the Mediterranean. As a key figure in the Persephone saga, Hecate was integral in the ancient Eleusinian Mysteries, impacting secret societies and occult rituals to this day.
Out of all her characteristics, her association with the crossroads is perhaps the most pertinent to my series. Most often, we think of crossroads as the intersection of two roads, yielding four directions. This was not always the case, however, as it was more common to have a proverbial âfork in the roadâ, yielding three directions. This is the kind of crossroads in which Hecate resides. Her statues depict her in triplicity, forearms outstretched, holding torches, keys, serpents, daggers, etc. One face in each direction, Hecate is the arbiter of passages, and in this way is the consort of the God Hermes.
Hecate is one of the original Triple Goddesses of Witchcraft, if not the primordial one. Her triplicity has defined much of Modern Pagan theology, with her stance representing the three phases of the moon, Waxing, Full, and Waning (Maiden, Mother, Crone respectively). Her mythological genealogy as the granddaughter of Phoebe and cousin to Artemis has yielded Hecate as a Goddess of the Moon in her own right, most often known as the unseen phase of the moon, the New Moon (however she is just as often associated with all moon phases). In Greek/Roman Mythology, Hecate joins many lunar goddesses in addition to Phoebe and Artemis, including Selene and Diana. The five were often conflated, confused, and worshiped both in tandem and in conflict. This ever shifting, impossible to pin down, lunar association echos her transient nature of existing in the shadows.
Hecate is both mysterious and severe. Her face is hidden behind her torches, or on the dark side of the moon, however her presence is a constant. She is life, death, and rebirth. She is both light and dark magic. She was beloved in her association with rites of passage like childbirth, and feared in her role as Queen of Shades, present at the final rite of passage, death. Her nature has permeated my entire series in such a profound and indescribable way, I can only show you:
#93: Lilithâ often worshiped by modern Pagans in tandem with Hecate #92: Circe: Daughter of Hecate #89, #54, #39: Bewitched: A common expression âFor Hecateâs Sake!â Occurs throughout the show. #79: Aradia: Daughter of Lucifer and Diana. Often seen as the daughter of an amalgamated Diana-Hecate. #70: Medea: Priestess of Hecate #67: Charmed: The Halliwell Sisters: Appears in the episode âThe Wedding from Hellâ #56: Ceridwen: Often worshiped in tandem with Hecate as Dark Mothers by modern Pagans. . #52, #27: Practical Magic: The necromancy ritual the Owenâs Sisters perform, albeit pronounced incorrectly. âBlack as night, erase death from our sight. White as light, Mighty Hecate make it right.â #10: Willow Rosenberg: Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Mentioned in several episodes and referred to as âQueen and Protectress of Witches.â #7: American Horror Story: Coven: Supreme Fiona Goode invokes Hecate âCome to me Hecate, Mother of Angels, Cosmic World Soul.â #5: The Weird Sisters: Macbeth: Hecate is their master
This list is pretty fitting for a Goddess whose name etymologically may mean âshe that operates from afar.â She is seldom a central figure or even visible, however witches from the Owens to the Goodes, from Willow Rosenberg to Endora, invoke her name and ask for her spirit, guidance, and presence. Hecate, in many ways, is both the first witch, and the last. She is our alpha and omega. She is the embodiment of power and strength. As a Goddess of Witchcraft, she does not merely exist in the margins of society like the rest of usâShe is the margin itself.
Hail Hecate.
âHecate, Cerridwen. Dark Mother take us in. Hecate, Cerridwen. Let us be reborn.â Â
ohhh multiverse how I love you.
it is past time we jettisoned the useless false dichotomy of introversion vs. extroversion and just accepted that everybody has a minimum amount of social interaction, failing which, they get really weird. and everybody has a maximum amount of social interaction, exceeding which, they get really weird. these levels are different for everyone, for a variety of reasons, and have no moral dimension. and that is all.
Advice for writing about small towns
So I come from a small (midwestern) town. And I mean - an actual small town (less than 1,500 population). Iâve lived in towns of under 500 population, and in towns of about 2,500 population, and in towns of 15k population, and in cities of 100k, and currently in a 700k city.Â
So hereâs some things about small towns you might not know if youâve never lived in one:
If itâs got a population higher than 30 thousand, itâs not a small town. Itâs just a town. Hell, Iâd probably argue that if it has a population higher than 10 thousand itâs not small town, but Iâm being generous. However the people in towns 30kâ50k probably think theyâre in a small town (theyâre not).
The experience is vastly different depending on how far you are from a small-large city. And by that I mean - the people are vastly different.Â
Are you less than 60min drive to a city of 80k+ population? the people are probably less likely to be farmers, more likely to work in said small-large city and commute (which doesnât mean that everyone commutes or that no one is a farmer). The people probably lean slightly to the right of the closest city, but arenât necessarily staunch conservatives. The town sizes probably bottom out around 2k min.Â
Are you more than 2hrs drive from a city of 80k+ population? The town is more self-sufficient. Most work within their small town or a nearby small town. Depending on the terrain, more people are farmers. Theyâre probably mostly conservative, both socially and fiscally. The town sizes could be as small as 300 people.
The farther from the city, the more likely to be conservative, more likely to be farmers (depending on the terrain).
Population 15k+:
This town probably has a (singular) hospital, several doctorâs offices, probably a dozen department stores - and if itâs rural enough, probably a couple kinds of hardware/diy type stores (loweâs, menardâs, home depot etc.)
There are several options for vets and at least one emergency vetÂ
1-2 dozen hotels
If itâs got anything touristy, double the hotels (2-3 dozen) - touristy being water, especially large lakes, hiking trails, fesitvals, nearby ski resort - any thing that would draw people there on vacation, even if itâs only people from that regionÂ
Also add a âdown townâ area - boutiques, nice restaurants, probably a theatre
It has at least 4 options of elementary schools, and 3 options each for middle and high schools. It might have a community college (but probably not). There are private or charter options, specifically for religious students
There are multiple denominations of churches (catholic, lutheran, baptist, episcopal etc). Depending on ethnic make-up, it may or may not have a synagogue. It probably wonât have a mosque.
If itâs in a rural-ish area (the closest towns are all smaller) it probably has some kind of shopping mall. If itâs the smaller town, it may not.
Itâll have several bars, probably clustered in a central location, with a few others a little farther out from that area.Â
This town has a few coffee shops (3-10), but may or may not have an actual starbucks. At least one is a local place, at least one is a chain (starbucks, dunkin, biggby).Â
People drive everywhere. There is a bus system, but only the âdown townâ area would have issues finding parking. Most businesses/hotels have their own parking lot.
Most people live in houses but there are a few (3-7) apartment complexes, most of which are several buildings
There will be lots of restaurants, mostly chains or small mom & pop places, with at least a couple niceish options
This town might even have its own airport, but likely only serves regional flights to ânearbyâ larger towns/cities. Regional means like, less than 2hr flights, so thatâs probably a bigger distance than youâd think.
There are dozens of gas stations and at least a dozen fast food places
Is it on a freeway? increase the gas stations, fast food places, department stores etc.Â
This town probably has a rec-type center with a community pool and courts and what not. There are several options of gyms.
Population 10k ish:
May or may not have a hospital - if it does, itâs small. A few doctorâs offices, a couple of department stores, at least one hardware/diy type
A few vets, may or may not have an emergency vet
a dozen or so hotels. again - double that if itâs got smth that would attract people, especially water.
may or may not have a âdown townâ area
2-4 options at least of elementary, 2-3 options of middle and high school. No community college.
Still at least a few options of churches. Still might have a synagogue, still probably doesnât have a mosque.
Probably doesnât have a shopping mall, but might have a âbusiness district - basically a few intersections with most of the stores, hotels, and restaurants.
Probably has at least two, maybe three coffee shops. At least one is a chain.
Probably doesnât have its own bus system unless itâs near enough to a town of 15k+ or more - people drive everywhere. Thereâs plenty of parking.
Most people live in houses, but there are a couple of apartment complexes. Mostish of the houses have yards, but some might not.
A few options of restaurants, but maybe only 1-2 niceish places. A couple chain, a couple mom & pop.Â
It would be strange for this town to have an airport. May have a landing strip at most, but unlikely.
There are probably half a dozen to a dozen gas stations. Several fast food places.
Is it on a freeway? increase the gas stations, fast food
This town might have a community rec center w/pool. Still a couple options of gyms.
Population 5k ish:
This town doesnât have a hospital. It probably has 1-3 doctorâs offices. At least one department store
2-3 vets, likely no emergency vet
3-8 ish hotels or innsÂ
Might have a quaint but very small âdown townâ area
Likely only 2 options of schools, maybe only one high school. Possible to go to school with same people your whole life
2-3 options for churches. Probably doesnât have a synagogue unless thereâs a large Jewish populationÂ
Thereâs no shopping mall of any kind, but probably has an area where most of the businesses are - at most 2-3 intersections worth
Probably has a coffee shop or two, but might not. Could be a chain or a local - but probably a local.
Thereâs no bus system unless itâs near enough to a town of 15k+. People drive everywhere.
Most everyone lives in houses. Most if not all have yards. There might be 1-2 apartment complexes but maybe not.
There are a few restaurants - mix of chain and mom & pop places. Might have a nice restaurant, but only one.
Thereâs no airport.
There are probably 2-6 gas stations, maybe 1-2 fast food.Â
Is it on a free way? increase the gas stations and fast food.
Likely does not have its own rec center/pool, but probably has 1-2 options of gyms.
Population under 2k ish:
No hospital. Probably has one doctorâs office, but might not if itâs close enough to a larger âsmallâ town. No department stores, but probably at least one, maybe 2 decent grocery stores. Could be a local chain or a mom & pop.
Probably has a vetâs office, but just one.Â
1-2 inns/motels. If itâs an older town, it has like, a street thatâs mostly made of older style buildings and is the âdown townâ - just a couple of blocks
Just one school system - elementary through high school. Everyone goes through the same school - you probably graduate with the same people you went to kindergarten with
1-2 churches. Probably no synagogue
There is probably a generalish area where the store/post office/school/etc is, but those are probably just as surrounded by homes and yards as everything else.
This town probably doesnât have a coffee shop, and if it does, itâs local, not a chain.
Thereâs no bus system unless itâs close enough to a town of 15k+. People drive.
There might be an apartment complex. Everything else is houses. The houses pretty much all have some kind of yard.
There are probably two restaurants, probably both local. Nothing fancy.Â
No airport.
Probably 2ish gas stations.
Is it on a free way? add a gas station and a fast food restaurant.
Thereâs no rec center (unless maybe an outdoor like, field type rec center), but still likely has at least one gym.
I could keep going down but I think you get the idea. If youâre writing about an actual town, do research on its population. If youâre making up a town, think about what size you need it to be to have the things you want (or donât want).Â
If your âsmall townâ has more than one hospital, itâs not a small town. If itâs got a population above 10k, there is definitely more than one (and likely, many) hotels.Â
Is it near decent-sized water (largeish lake, ocean)? People probably have vacation homes there. That increases property value and tourism. Even if itâs not a like, nationally-known vacation spot, people within 100-200 miles could likely make weekend trips there.
Is it the largest town within 75-100 miles, even if itâs under 20k? itâs probably got more department stores and other such industry bc itâs serving a population greater than its own. if there are other towns nearby of equal-to-larger size, it might need less of those things.
I was reading this, bewildered, because I had temporarily forgotten how US-centric this website is. Some of those information apply to European countries as well, but some are different (depending on the country) and the distances discussed in the post have to be reduced enormously to fit Europe and European driving habits.
this is the last year that we can make this stupid joke so im going to make the most of it and post it every day until 2020

so apparently you can hide Nazis on Twitter by setting your location results to Germany or France because Twitter is legally required to remove Nazi content there, so Twitter always had the ability to remove Nazis, they just choose not to
fucking yikes lol
Itâs high key illegal to make any kind of nazi joke or gesture in Germany. People can get fired for it and in extreme cases even arrested. On my class trip to Berlin this kid thought itâd be funny to do a Nazi salute in the parking lot where hitler died (was not a destination, just happened to walk by). He was immediately pulled aside by police who legit booked him a flight home for the next day, without the rest of us. He was suspended for two weeks too.
Funny how the country responsible for this takes full responsibility and fights to make it never happen again, while the US, who spent years basing an entire identity on fighting Nazis, gives them a platform to speak freely and draft members.
I am a glorified office administrator who understands server hardware why am I the only person in this company who gets what social engineering is?
Total stranger on the phone who weâve never spoken to before: I have power of attorney over the CEO of this corporation and we are a customer of yours. Please change the administrator password on the server to XXXXX
My boss, putting on white grease paint and a red wig: Oh, of course! Letâs do it quickly so that youâll want to keep working with us since youâre going to be making business decisions!
Me: I would sell you to satan for one corn chip and Iâm allergic to corn but before you do this maybe you should call someone who is actually on our contact list for our customer and see if theyâve ever heard of this stranger.
My boss, looking through a selection of shoes that honk when you walk: Oh, but she said that it was very important that none of the employees know what was happening because theyâre making staffing changes.
Me: As your lawyer I recommend that you just call a single one of our contacts and see if theyâve ever heard of her name.
My boss, shoving all of our technicians into a VW beetle: Youâre not my lawyer.
Me: HOW THE FUCK WOULD YOU KNOW? I COULD BE! YOU SHOULD MAYBE CHECK ON THAT.
TIL everyoneâs employee ID at my company is the last five of their SSN.
Boss: On the bright side, itâs only the last five
Me: YOU CAN COMMIT FRAUD WITH FOUR
Security firms that are hired to check the security of banks will often use the following tactic: They will walk up to the teller in a suit with their ID badge and a clipboard and go:
âHello I am [name] from [security firm] weâve been hired to verify the security of the facility I need to see your computers.â
âErmâŠIâll have to verify that with my managers.â
âCongratulations, you have just passed the security verification.â [Scribbles on clipboard] âBut in all seriousness I do need to verify your security so I need to see your computers.â
âOh okay.â AND LETS THEM IN.
âSocial engineeringâ is a way too fancy word for what it is. I know a guy (not personally) who broke several people out of prison by essentially writing âGreetings, please release this person, signed, whoever the judge isâ on a piece of paper and faxing it there. Because no one would have a fax machine in their own house I guess.
not to derail, but holy shit that praxis
I just started a new job and had a two hour training on this. Which, before reading this post, I thought was a complete waste of time. But fucking apparently some dumb people needed it.
