My whole personality at this point:
oh sick someone paved this whole road with good intentions. i wonder where it leads
if an archaeologist says an artifact was probably for âritual purposesâ it means âi have no fuckin clueâ
but if they say it was for âfertility ritualsâ they mean âi know exactly what it was for but i dont want to say âancient dildoââ
Back in the day I worked at a certain very famous and very high caste art museum in the US as a junior curator. Part of my job was to catalog the objects in the museum database. This includes details like provenance, measurements, and a visual description of what the object looked like.
Like I said, the museum was a pretty snotty institution. Itâs got a LOT of objects itâs way famous for possessing, but nobody knew about the absolutely massive collection of Moche erotic pottery it had because the curators were totally embarrassed by this stuff.
Some examples:
Pretty hot shit, right? They never, ever put any of this stuff on public view or published it in any catalogues but - we legit had like several hundred pieces of Moche ceramics in the âdirty potsâ category. Anyway, I was left alone to just do my job with regard to the database for several years, ok? And I figured, well, theseâre accessioned objects in the museumâs collection - better get down to bidness.Â
I catalogued every goddamn bestiality, necrophiliac, cocksucking, buttfucking, detached penis, and giant vulva drinking cup in that collection. Iâd be like,Â
A drinking vessel in form of a standing man wearing a tunic and cap. He holds an oversized erection in his hands and stares into the distance (note I did not say âlike heâs hella-constipatedâ). The vessel has a hole at both the tip of the penis as well as around the rim of the figureâs head, thus forcing the drinker to drink only from the penis or risk spilling wine all over themselves from the top of the vessel. Red and orange slip covers the surface of the piece.
Pretty straightforward, right? Apparently the deep seated fear of these objects that the curators exhibited was meant to spread to me as well, but - no one ever gave me that memo, because I guess Midwesterners reproduce asexually. When the curators understood that I had catalogued all of these objects in addition to the other, non-sexy pieces in the collection, they were apparently livid, but knew they had no legs to stand on in terms of getting pissed at me for it.Â
I visited the museumâs online public access database a few years back and - every single description I wrote of these pieces has been totally neutered to say something like Male figural vase.Â
Long story short? Just call a dildo a fucking dildo. Itâs all gonna be ok, I swear.
This is absolutely the MOST unusual reblog I have ever tagged with what is probably my second-favorite tag, âtalk to me about your work.â
Plus itâs hilarious.
I love ancient art history !!!!!
@lowercasetrashwriter
Museums should have sections dedicated to artifacts like these with a warning that says âThereâs a lot of private parts in here but weâre dedicated to displaying history so we wonât censor these. Enter at your own riskâ or something. Itâs prudish to deliberately hide history because of some ding dongs.
Fucking Puritanism.
Unpopular opinion: Sex exists. Making body parts taboo is both psychologically bad for us and kinda stupid.
Came across this art installation, Liza Lou's Kitchen, at the Whitney Museum of American Art, NYC. It's a kitchen made of tiny glass beads, that artist Liza Lou did, taking 5 yrs. to complete, from 1991 - 1996.

I truly believe that, never in Shane Hollander's life, has he been as angry as he was at a family gathering in 2015 when he tried to join his cousin Alan (an accountant) in commiserating about being busy with work all the time and Alan told him, "yeah, but you play a game for a living."
I attempted therapy in a second language and it sucked. But it made me kind of like that Galina is a shit therapist. I think the whole point is that she's not great, but it shows that Ilya doesn't have any choice. He's stuck in so many aspects of his life.
He already finds speaking in therapy sessions hard, he can't do it in a second language. It's another barrier he faces bc of his nationality. He doesn't have access to family support OR adequate medical support.
Like don't get me wrong, Ilya is uncomfortably aware of the consequences if his whole bisexual thing gets out. But you can't tell me that sometimes he's just dying to tell Marleau about the fact that he pulled Shane Hollander, that he's actively pulling Hollander every time they play Montreal. He got hockey's 11/10 and he can't even tell anyone.

my life with ADHD
This is very true and a great post.
But low key makes me think about how people with adhd have been raised their whole lives to value a day based on what they accomplished vs what they experienced
I think your point is excellent. But also consider:
That list might say things like âPaint a picture. Go birdwatching. Finish that great novel I started reading. Call my grandma. Learn to bake a cake. Visit my sister. Play piano.â
For me at least, the good/fun things are harder without meds too. I can have the best intentions, but following through is hard.
This addition is so important.
Yeah. I once made a post in which I complained about being frustrated at my brain, and one of the things I said was:
âI should not be struggling this much to do things that I want to do and have the time, space, energy, and skills to do. Actually, when I list it all out like that, I should not be struggling at all to do those kinds of tasks.â
And I STILL somehow got a rant about capitalism in the comments. And I do understand where itâs coming from, yes, but goddamn did I not make myself clear? Did I not say Things That I Want To Do???
My dear lgbt+ kids,Â
I want to talk about a very specific trans boy experience today: female friends or family members trying to pull you into âall men suckâ conversations.Â
These might not be outright biological essentialism conversations (some pseudoscientific nonsense like âMen are biologically hardwired to be abusive and violentâ). Most often, itâs just private rants: their boyfriend did something shitty or a male customer at work acted creepy or their ex cheated and they are actually just mad at that guy specifically but express it in a âwhy are all men always shittyâ way.
Itâs a special type of uncomfortable. They are indirectly, subtly misgendering you by excluding you from âall menâ as a group (even if they do not directly say âI see you as a girl and therefore expect you to agree with me that men, which to me you are not a part of, are assholesâ out loud and they may in fact not even consciously think that, they do put you in a separate category than men just by silently assuming that they can say âall men are shitâ to you without insulting you.)Â
But itâs a type of misgendering that canât just simply be fixed by changing the words used. Itâs not a âYou are my sisterâ âPlease call me your brotherâ situation that can be corrected just like that. You likely would not feel much better if they went âall men, including you, are shitâ instead.Â
Itâs not a linguistic problem, itâs a worldview problem, and those are much harder to correct. The actual issue is, of course, the assumption that a group of individuals can be by default bad due to something thatâs out of their control - and that applies to âmenâ as a group as much as it would apply to âwomenâ or âpeople of colorâ or âelderly peopleâ or âgay peopleâ. Saying âall of them suckâ just⊠sucks.Â
Individuals can be shitty for lots of things that are within their control: their behavior, the way they treat others, their opinions etc. And some groups hold a special power position in society that makes it easier for them to be shitty and not face serious consequences. That does apply to âmenâ as a group, and maybe for that reason we can not fully equate saying âall men suckâ with saying âall women suckâ - the latter is born in a misogynistic society, the former may just be a simplistic way to express âthe patriarchy allows or even rewards male individuals for shitty behaviorâ. Which may just be why this stereotype of âwomen bond by getting together and complaining about how all men suckâ exists in the first place!Â
But thatâd be a whole lot to say when all your sister wants to do is just to go âUgh all men are the same, I just found out my boyfriend cheated on me again, I hate men!â and get a sympathetic âMen are the worst!â back. You may not want to go âwell actually, gender does not make anyone a cheater, your boyfriend is just an asshole, but then again growing up in a patriarchal society may play a role in why you forgave him the first time, so I understand your frustration, itâs a nuanced topicâ right there - or at least I do not when I find myself in that position.Â
So, I just want to give you a hug and tell you that I get it. Youâre allowed to feel uncomfortable with it.Â
With all my love,Â

"In the instance an employer makes an illegal request for a photograph as part of a job application, you may submit a complaint to the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission." Successful violation fee collections are paid partially to the one who suffered the violation, which in many cases exceeds a year of work at these shit jobs. There's only two weak points to a corporation, and those are in the budget and in the supply chain. Hit them where it hurts.
