@mrrankin
habit is your greatest helper or heaviest burden, it can destroy you or place the world at your feet.
Liberty is when the government fear the people. Tyranny is when the people fear the government. Which one do you want?
The transition from democracy to tyranny is most easily brought about by a leader who knows how to exploit the class antagonism between classes within the democratic state, and who builds up an army of his own. The people who hailed him first as a champion of freedom are soon enslaved; and then they must fight for him in one war after another which he must stir up. Because he must make the people feel the need of a general.
Democracy changes into its lawless form, and deteriorates further, through oligarchy, the lawless rule of the few, into a lawless rule of the one, tyranny.
All change is evil, except the change of an evil thing
For cooperation to emerge, the interaction must extend over an indefinite
(or at least an unknown) number of moves, based on the following logic:
Two egoists playing the game once will both be tempted to choose
defection since that action does better no matter what action the other
player takes. If the game is played a known, finite number of times, the
players likewise have no incentive to cooperate on the last move, nor on the
next-to-last move since both can anticipate a defection by the other player.
Similar reasoning implies that the game will unravel all the way back to
mutual defection on the first move. It need not unravel, however, if the
players interact an indefinite number of times. And in most settings, the
players cannot be sure when the last interaction between them will take
place. An indefinite number of interactions, therefore, is a condition under
which cooperation can emerge.
For cooperation to prove stable, the future must have a sufficiently large
shadow. This means that the importance of the next encounter between the
same two individuals must be great enough to make defection an
unprofitable strategy. It requires that the players have a large enough
chance of meeting again and that they do not discount the significance of
their next meeting too greatly.
He who has a why to live for can bear almost any how
People today foolishly try to believe that the world's senselessness and cruelty-the richness of the few, the great poverty of the many, the violence and warfare-happens outside of their own lives and does not interfere with them and their way of life.
The closer people are to the truth, the more tolerant they are of the mistakes of others.
Those who don't believe in the spiritual foundations of their faith, who pay only lip service to the outer shell of their religious rituals, cannot be tolerant of others.
A real truth, a real faith, needs neither worldly support nor an outer glamour, nor does it need to be forcefully introduced to others. 'God' has time; for him thousands of years pass as one. Those who feel the need to spread their faith through violence and force either lack faith in God, or in themselves.
Social Media is the Tobacco of our generation and will be legislated in the future
The detrimental mental health effects of social media and the methods in which silicon valley has hooked the whole world are being exposed. Yes, it sounds like a scifi technological dystopia, but its real.
I have been convinced that at least a part of our psychic existence is characterised by a relativity of space and time. This relativity seems to increase, in proportion to the distance from consciousness, to an absolute condition of timelessness and spacelessness.
