I think too many people forget that, for all of his alien modifications, Sephiroth IS human and IS subject to the nuances of human tragedy. Both of his biological parents were human. He was born from a human mother. Jenova was grafted into him, but Sephiroth's capacity for compassion is indicative of his true human heart. He only really goes full alien after he emotionally/psychologically rejects his own humanity. But it doesn't erase what he is on a fundamental physical and biological level.

Sephiroth was human.

Sephiroth IS human.

I even told them I agreed with their "Sephiroth is inhuman" assertions on some level, just that Sephiroth also possesses clear indications that he is human. I acknowledge that he's a hybrid. But that doesn't take away the fact that he's human. An ALTERED human.

And now they're crashing tf out saying I don't know what I'm talking about. Like??? You came to MY post to debate me. Idk what their problem is. Or why the idea of a vulnerable Sephiroth is so scary.

Sephiroth. Is. Human. And to ignore that fact is to ignore the poetic irony of him assuming otherwise.

It is always baffling when people choose to block and vague-post over a respectful narrative debate. You are 100% right, Alto. Sephiroth isn't just some faceless alien monster dropped from the sky. The entire tragedy of his character is that he was a real person who was thoroughly ruined by Shinra's horrific science experiments. He has Lucrecia's DNA, and he spent the first two decades of his life acting like a deeply isolated with only two real friends (and Glenn and company up to a point) until Zack, but ultimately protective (who OFFERED his blood to his friend), compassionate (thanks dissidia), and capable human being.

If he were just a 100% space-parasite from day one, the Nibelheim incident wouldn't even be tragic. It would just be an IT update about a cosmic horror burning down a town.

The profound irony is that the person online is actually falling for the exact same delusion that drove Sephiroth insane in the first place. Sephiroth wants to believe he’s a god-like alien entity because facing the crushing reality of his human trauma. That the person he believed to be his "mother" in that tank was a science project and the man he looked up to somewhat as a father figure used him as a lab rat—is simply too painful to bear.

By highlighting his humanity, you aren't ignoring his alien side. You're acknowledging the brilliant poetic irony that Square Enix built into him. He rejected his humanity because it broke him, not because it never existed. Keep speaking facts, Alto. Some people just can't handle a villain with actual layers. And others like to tear people down.

You're a bright spot in our community here.

Thank you, Bardic. That's really sweet. I'm not even angry--just disappointed. It can be hard sometimes being really passionate about something, putting it out there, and then someone has a wild reaction to it. Like I said, I understood what they were talking about. And if I came off as abrasive at all, fair play. But I still wish people had more chill reactions to basic concepts that are woven into the fabric of how these stories and characters are depicted.

I'm not an expert. But I care. They care too. It's a shame we couldn't care together.
