lesbian scifi is so easy. here’s a woman in cargo pants and a tank top on a spaceship. are you with me
maybe it’s not even cargo pants. maybe it’s coveralls rolled to + tied around the waist. maybe she even has fuckoff boots
"there is no way you're not using chatgpt for at least a few things here and there no matter your stance on it" what the FUCK are you talking about
“Men’s fashion is so boring. Why do women get all the fun options”
The quote is mine but I’ve heard a similar version of it for years from peers and media. It’s something I’ve thought about off an on, and while the simple answer is basically patriarchy + capitalism, I’m interested in some of the more minor contributing factors. Recently I’ve stumbled onto another such factor as I was riding the bus through town. It occurred to me that nearly all of the clothes I saw men wearing were some derivation of work clothes. These were not all laborers on the clock, far from it. Most were running errands, sitting on the terrace having a beer, hanging out with friends, etc. This is nothing new of course, men’s fashion has for a long time now followed work clothes in style, but I never connected the dots as to why that might be a reason for the boring nature of modern men’s fashion. I’m fully aware that there are other options, mostly derivations of an aristocratic class of yesteryear, but most folks stay away from them. When is the last time you saw a flared sleeve on a man? The options easily available to the average man are tightening year on year.
As much as I love jeans, I have to wonder what the world would look like if they never existed. In a way I think the work clothes imitation is a crutch for a lot of men to not think about their outfits.
like the betrayal’s always going to be worse if they cared about you and it didn’t matter. someone discards you because they didn’t give a shit, then you can be angry about that, you can feel vindicated in that, you can get over it. but if they can look you in the eyes and say “I love you. I would make the same choice again.” You will never sleep peacefully again, is all.
“I thought they cared about me, but they were lying this whole time.” <- tired. boring. removes all the nuance of this relationship to make it easier to move on from.
“I thought they cared about me, and I was right, and every minute they were there for me, every time they said they were proud, every laugh we shared leaning against each other bruised and breathless, all of it was real. and they still left me behind. They could put their love aside. I couldn’t.” <- insane. will never leave you alone. reminds you that even the worst people are still people and can still care about even the ones they hurt the most and that undoes neither the harm nor the love.
i want devices that are functional and hardy and i want them to last and fuck the rest of the shit i dont need. my ds and 3ds can lie in sleep mode for months if not years and i can pop them open and they've still got two or three bars left. my old phones in high school could go days without a charge. if i leave my nintendo switch on the floor for a few days doing absolutely fuck all nothing i will turn it on and it will cry to me mother i am dying. i am dying mother. and i tell him he'll never be half the man his brother was and he can't hear me because he's dead
congrats to guns on becoming Woke, joining the NFL, the Bible, Bud Light, and the concept of empathy.
Been thinking a lot of about that quote that goes something like, “I studied war so my son could study history, so his son could study art”.
Had to look it up, the full quote is -
"I must study politics and war that my sons may have liberty to study mathematics and philosophy. My sons ought to study mathematics and philosophy, geography, natural history, naval architecture, navigation, commerce and agriculture in order to give their children a right to study painting, poetry, music, architecture, statuary, tapestry, and porcelain." - John Adams
Anyway, coming from a military family this sentiment has always been in the back of my mind as I pursued social science and art. With the way the world is going I do wonder if I would have been better off continuing to study war and politics like my brothers and father have. What good is being equipped to debate the merits of a wealth tax when fascism is knocking down the doors
just rewatched t2
Actually this time probably not. The writing was on the wall way before Reagan became president, and the steel mill closed in November 1981, barely ten months into his president.
He was governor of California during that "writing on the wall" period. He was the one writing. It was his wall.
Oh. Well don't I look stupid now.
Terrible news: you learned something today
Teachers have tried this and are amazed when their classes don’t go feral like in the book. It’s almost as if the book was supposed to be satire and not a treaty on the nature of humanity.
there’s a timeskip
THERE’S A TIMESKIP
THERE’S A TIMESKIP
THERE’S A TIMESKIP
after losing control of the signal fire there’s a FUCKING TIMESKIP and when the next chapter starts everyone’s hair is several inches longer and their clothes have rotted to shreds and they’re still just kind of chilling!!!!
IT TAKES THE TERRIBLE IMPERIALISM MIND-POISONED EXCESSIVELY BRITISH BOYS IN THE ACTUAL BOOK SEVERAL MONTHS TO COMMIT A SINGLE ACT OF INTENTIONAL VIOLENCE, EVEN THE ONE (1) CHILD WRITTEN AS AN ACTUAL SOCIOPATH
AND then when they DO turn on each other it is because
THERE’S AN UNSPECIFIED WORLD WAR HAPPENING
AND A PILOT’S CORPSE CRASH LANDS ON THE ISLAND POST-DOGFIGHT AND THE CHILDREN MISTAKE THE PARACHUTE FOR A MONSTER AND SPIRAL INTO PARANOIA
BECAUSE CHILDREN INHERIT THE LEGACY AND TRAUMA OF VIOLENCE FROM THE ADULTS WAGING WAR AROUND THEM
HURR DURR IN THE REAL WORLD IT WOULD NEVER HAPPEN LIKE IN LORD OF THE FLIES -
IT DIDN’T HAPPEN THAT WAY IN LORD OF THE FLIES EITHER YOU JUST HAVEN’T READ IT SINCE HIGH SCHOOL IF EVER AND DON’T REMEMBER WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED IN THE GODDAMN BOOK
#tbf the dude wrote it to be a dick
yes. yes he did. i’m also gonna direct you to the real life ‘lord of the flies’ which occured in the 1960s, when six tongan schoolboys got stranded on a desert island for over a year before being rescued by an australian fisherman (who, it should be noted, later took on all six as crewmembers because the reason they were out in the first place was because they wanted to see the world, and named his ship the Ata after the island they were stranded on). nobody died. the only injuries that occurred were accidental, and when one of the boys broke his leg falling down a cliff, the others braced it and looked after him so well that it healed perfectly. if they argued, then they would literally go to opposite sides of the island until they’d cooled off. after leaving the island, they remained friends for the rest of their lives. here’s a photo of them as adults, with their rescuer (who is third from the left) and other members of his crew.
i read about this in rutger bregman’s human kind, a book i cannot recommend highly enough, but if you don’t want to go and read a whole book about the inherent goodness of humanity (which again, you really should) then the relevant excerpt can be found here.

everyone say thank you to joseph gordon levitt and tom hardy for imbuing their characters in inception with so much chemistry that it gave the impression of a tangled history of failed romance and repressed love and the desire to reignite the flame between them. and they did it for literally no reason. in 2010
"Mom! Phineas and Ferb are developing a proletariat class consciousness!"
"That's cute, Candace. The working class deserve to break free from the bondage of capitalist exploitation. Isn't that right, honey?"
"It's about time somebody showed those bourgeois pigs what's what!"
". . . ."
"Hey, Phineas! Whatcha doin'?"
"Oh hey Isabella! We're smashing capitalism!"
"Sounds fun, can I join? I've been trying to earn my Leftist Praxis Badge."
"Achievement badges are a poor remedy for the alienation of the individual from the fruits of their labor."
where’s that 1900s painting of the centaur mother playing with her child in a grassy field?
the smile! the tenderness! the warmth of it all!
