Imagine if that person could have used the MSPA Notifier and never sent this message...

To the 903 followers I still have. That exist at this moment still. I would like to echo sentiments of the MSPA Notifier, and Homestuck as an interactive “flash-based” webcomic, and how entropy has affected it. If you have a few moments to spare, this video is quite interesting, and I hope it makes you think. I haven’t logged into this account I think before tumblr’s acquisition, but still, you brave souls still on this platform, the old devout readers of Homestuck, this post is to help you understand what entropy is, and how it’s affected both myself and will affect the future of Homestuck.

Hey are you gonna update this to work with homestuck 2?

Well, I suppose I should have a definitive answer to this. And that answer is “no”. Many people who grew up with Homestuck and used the notifier have surpassed me in programming skills by now and can create notifiers in all sorts of languages for multiple platforms. Browser extensions are the most useful of those that come to mind. The notifier was created as a specialized RSS feed reader for people who were very anxious about Homestuck updates. Namely, a pavlovian effect whenever someone would hint there was an update on the site, they would check it no matter what. The program helped people who suffered from this anxiety by not being deceived from others online. This isn’t a thing that happens anymore. Not to mention RSS is not enabled for Homestuck 2, in which the entire backend of the MSPA Notifier was written around.

The MSPA Notifier’s journey is over, and I hope those that used it enjoyed it. I was hounded a lot by users regarding bugs and features, as they would continue to break the program in ways that would baffle me. I also distinctly remember one person getting on my case for encapsulating the program in the tray notification area saying “programs aren’t going to do this anymore and you shouldn’t either, it’s bad programming” as I currently look at my array of tray icon programs still going strong in my own notification area.

The program was a great exercise, first written in Visual Basic, then migrated into C# to become more advanced. I had hoped those skills I learned in making the notifier would have helped me in life, as I desired to become a fully-fledged programmer, but those dreams were shattered several years ago. I don’t know what the future holds for myself, if anything, but I will quietly bow out of the Homestuck scene and pass the torch onto others if they wish to carry on the tradition.

Right now, upd8.ninja looks like it’s working, but it’s actually not.

I’m working on updating it for the new site now! Hopefully it’ll be ready by the next upd8, but there is quite a bit of work to be done, and I’m known to be lazy. I do have everything planned out for how I’ll go about it, I just gotta actually code it.

I’ll probably have it set up so that if you leave upd8.ninja open right now, it should auto-update as soon as I roll out the latest version.

Meanwhile, follow this blog for more updates! (not upd8s though, I don’t wanna bother learning tumblr’s api)

The latest version of the MSPA Notifier uses this, so once this updates, the notifier should just... theoretically, work...

are you going to upd8 the notifier so it works with the epilogues?

Maybe if there’s enough call for it. I haven’t looked at the new format.

Homestuck PHD

Someone contacted me back in January for info about the Notifier for a dissertation they were doing involving republication and Homestuck. They gave me an email but they haven’t responded back to me. Huh.

Notifier link is down. I know it doesn't even work anymore, but any chance it can go up?
