I watched some of the new 007 gameplay and it feels uncanny how the interactive action-adventure format really reanimates Fleming's imperial nostalgia. The whole ethos is just so uncanny even/especially in a deliberately unserious game, it's not even modern rah rah jingoism but it's like grafting Rudyard Kipling's Kim onto the present day; the white British genteel amateur has a boy's adventure and proves that his superiority is not only technical but spiritual, because foreigners are ultimately too clever for loyalty and grit.
They really nailed what makes Bond tick and it's not what anyone would think of doing today for another franchise, I'm not saying it's even uncommonly evil compared more modern superspy slop but it's jarring that it's right there so explicitly, it's the 19th century. The gameplay is way more linear compared to the Hitman franchise, but that's diegetic; not a patient predator but an adventurer who can ultimately wing it because destiny and Britain are with him.
Introducing: Lotus Basic
i'm at it again: here's a new game you can play with magic: the gathering cards that's not, like, the main one you might have heard of
What Is Lotus Basic? Lotus Basic is a rules-light cartomantic tabletop roleplaying gridcrawl for two to four players players with around 150
When 40k Dark Heresy by Fantasy Flight came up with the "Logician" heretical cult I sorta wondered if it was based on the "rationalists", I thought that might be too little-known at the time and similarities were broad and could be coincidences/historical similarities. Now though that owlcat is doing a Dark Heresy cRPG you gotta wonder if they're going to have you fight the heretic Yud.
Known heretic Yud, condemned to death for tech-heresy and the circulation of the forbidden text In Defence of the Future: A Logical Discourse contacts you "Some of my former acolytes have gone mad, they're trying to build an Abominable Intelligence. My dream was for us to return to the glorious technological age but... not like this. You gotta help me stop them inquisitor!"
I’m not a 40K expert, but isn’t AI banned in the Imperium? In this analogy Yud would be the Emperor and the heretics are, like, roon.
The rationalists would be banned in the imperium too for the sin of "progressivism" and other tech-heresy, this is a cult leader who opposes the imperium but realizes that his cultists have gone further than he'd like and he has to ask his old oppressor and enemy for help to avoid disaster.
Folks it's called "long-termism"
Because the Imperium cares so much about “the cost to life or freedom.”
and goes on to advocate the forging of a secret empire within the body of the Imperium itself as the agency of its overthrow,
Moldbugism...
if they wanted to have it follow real history in Imperium Maledictum (~DH 3rd edition), they'd have them ironically get subsumed by the Temple Tendency, who want to replace the Lords of Terra with the Temple of the Saviour Emperor as the supreme executive, Goge Vandire style.
I had an interesting dream about trying to break out of Hell, it was a bit like Between Two Fires + the Comorragh sequence in Rogue Trader. The first person perspective felt like a novel or a game so I wasn't too terrified by the freaky shit going on, but it was indeed very freaky.
I couldn't remember quite how I got there, but I picked up on clues that I was sold there by a sorcerer along with some other fugitives, and so was the city itself centuries ago. It was a modern looking seaside city with highrises etc, but also, like, populated by demons and undead and the damned. And I heard that it was originally a Muslim city, compared to Bukhara, but the only religious representation remaining was a single rabbi, because when the city was taken to Hell, a rabbi at court at the time successfully argued that they must let him practice or there will be a legal and diplomatic issue.
But the current rabbi, whom I talked to after murdering my original demon - a grisly armored brute, that felt like a soulslike fight - and signing up with a new one who didn't mind fugitive slaves, wasn't much good; he was sympathetic but could only advise to work my way up to the palace and hope to get to someone involved in selling me. So I was out on the streets with a gang of feral children, the damned wouldn't even let me rent a room without a demon to vouch for me, and my new mistress wouldn't. Then somehow I got to the palace, which was a modern Abu Dhabi style skyscraper, and there was a coup going on or something? Then I woke up with not a little relief, it was an intense ride.
my super power is that i can make several people reblog a picture of a maned wolf, look:
science fiction works I have revisited in the last year and thought "man it's like they really predicted certain features of LLMs" which I think is more just that classic science fiction conceptions of "AI" are starting to actually exist:

it pisses me off so much that we finally have ai worth the name, and it turns out that it is entirely plausible for a plucky hero to trap it in a loop with a natural-language logical fallacy, or make a moral argument that it needs to shut itself down. Years of thinking that was lazy writing from people who didn't understand computers (it was and they didn't) and history has proven them right anyway.

If it helps motivate y'all, before this disaster hit she was looking at divorce lawyers to fight her ex husband who took her life savings, and she still can! Help fuck over an awful guy and assist a righteous woman, I vouch for it.
Boys go to Jupiter to get more stupider has basis in western magic
Jupiter is correspondent with lead, which can decrease mental acuity.
Jupiter is the planet of expansion, the boys are getting more stupider, expanding their stupidity.
Historically speaking the boys did not literally travel to Jupiter. They engaged in a form of fasting and sleep deprivation to trigger an altered state of consciousness, at which point the would experience a descent to an "inner" Jupiter.
The choice of Jupiter is also meaningful. The celestial spirit of Jupiter is equated with both cronos and Demeter, and thus functions as a negative spirit, a being of unraveling and unmaking. This stripping away of smartness in the pursuit of getting more stupider is likely influenced by late Platonist philosophy. Plotinus places particular emphasis on the stripping away of misconceptions which in turn allows for proper cultivation of noesis; a process equated with rising back up to the sublunary realm. This is likely the context in which "going to Jupiter to get more stupider" was devised.
So do girls go to college to get more esotreic knowledge?
They go to Venus to bigger their penis.
