THE ABOMINABLE BRIDE WAS NOT SEXIST, YOU BUNCH OF FOOLS!!!
The whole, main plot point revolved around this ‘war’ being one that Sherlock, John, and all opposition must lose. To paraphrase Mycroft, the feminists were right, and they were the good side. All Sherlock wanted to do was solve the mystery, and perhaps get them to go about their campaign with a little less murdering. That’s something people seem to forget about Sherlock. He rarely works for the good of the country, he works so that John and him can have a good chase.
Remember that every period scene of this episode was in his mind palace. So, no. He wasn’t explaining feminism to a bunch of feminists, he was explaining it to himself and John in the moment.
And the Bechdel test? Sometimes you can have strong female characters in a film that doesn’t pass it. I am not sure what the rest of you were watching, but all the women in TAB were obviously making a stand for what was right. From Mrs Hudson not talking because she never did in John’s stories despite her importance in their lives, to Mary being a suffragist, to Molly wearing drag so she could do what she loves despite the sexism of the time, to every single woman in that church who were there to fight for their independence and to fight against domestic abuse.
The Abominable Bride was a masterpiece of feminist media. It was a little overdramatic at times, like with the purple robes, but it’s a BBC show. What do you expect? It seems a lot of people are missing the main point of the feminists being the good guys, and the men they were killing, as well as every man who’s ever treated a woman as a lesser to himself, were the bad guys.
And, I mean, we got Moriarty in a wedding dress. What more could we wish for!?
