After a long discussion with my coworkers today I would like to gather general data on our question:
What scientific discipline has the most number of freaks (positive)?
biology
comp sci
physics
mathematics
chemistry
psychology
geology
engineering
I’m pissing myself that there are two clear winners. And they’re right, because I voted for one of them.
Prev I can't believe I've somehow found myself getting immersed in The Default Science. Oh you're into science? You've started looking at science programs? Which science? And I have to be like. Chemistry. Yes as in the one with the beakers and substances. Yes like from the posters. And then I kill myself
NO LITERALLY people ask me what I do all day and I say I make clear liquids. I weigh out table salt and dissolve it into various clear liquids. Add more ions sometimes with more clear liquid. Filter the pristine clear liquid into a bottle. Yeah sometimes the clear liquids even go in the funky flasks from the posters yeah it's great fun. I used to make sea urchins ejaculate for science and now I make clear liquids. It is the Default Science
Psychology is like, I love the inner workings of the human mind! Physics is like, I love the forces holding the universe together! Biology is like, I love life itself! And chemistry is like. I love Substances. Yeah. Stuff. Things that exist. That's my interest. Things that exist.
Absolutely an insane tag out of context 😂
But uh, yeah 😂 biology is very often just the study of how organisms reproduce (evidence A for the freak argument), and the initial development of sea urchin embryos is actually very very similar to the initial development to human embryos, making sea urchins a really good model for developmental research!
This does mean, however, that you need to make the sea urchins reproduce. Preferably by your hand, so you can play wingman to some gametes and study the development. Which means making them spawn, if I'm to use the correct term.
And boy does a little shot of potassium chloride into those guys really make them... spawn.
It's just really hard to call it spawning when you've sat there watching this white fluid leak out of the top of a sea urchin all because you gave it a shot.
