Hello Everyone!

Long time no update! Obviously with the craziness of COVID, gigs and the entertainment industry has collapsed so I’ve had to rethink of things to do.

I have started to do music inspired art work and posted them on Etsy for sale 😃

This one is an Alexisonfire ‘Accidents’ inspired one. They’ve been one of my top 2 favourite bands for the longest time and had to do this one.

Music That Made Me: King Charles

On Music Box Unwinds we are starting a Music That Made Me feature, where I will ask bands and artists I love and have inspired me to talk about who inspired them. With all the craziness going on in the world, I thought it would be a nice idea to try and inspire each other as well as bridge the gap between fans and bands.

First up is the incredibly talented King Charles!

Your top 5 favourite bands/artists - what is it about them that stands out to you.

I’ve always felt a draw to songwriting that feels significant to me. Everything about a recording and a sound that frames the song is a kind of manifesto. Siobahn Wilson - there are no saints. VW- FOTB. Rolling Stones- exile in main st, Johnny Flynn A Larum Jake Bugg

These artist have created something that I have fed off at times and given me something like a metaphysical nourishment. There feels like a connection to the artists who’s music carries their character that paints a picture you gain a kind of relationship with.

Top 5 Favourite Albums and why

These are some of my favourites to listen to right now, there’s something in all of them that teaches me and connects me better to myself.

Your favourite songs of your own

I like getting to the point of performing and singing new songs. When recording it always feels like such a thrill to imagine turning a song into part of a live experience. The songs from Out Of My Mind are new and very special to me.

Favourite gig experience - both of your own and one you have attended

The Prodigy at EXIT festival was insane

I love playing festivals , they can often blur into one but there are lots of favourites in there.

A lyric or song that has always stuck with you or wish you had wrote

“I don’t wana live like this, but I do t wana die.” Harmony Hall

Advice for upcoming bands or people who just need a little push just now.

It’s cool to be able to press reset in life and I think this is one of those times.

Your new album "Out Of My Mind" is being released on April 17th, what can listeners expect from the new release?

It’s a change in direction for me and I want that to be felt. There are different influences and experiences that have gone into it that have found a new expression. Not all the tracks sound the same so I want it to be an unpredictable first listening experience.

You have just released your new single Deeper Love / Freak and it's official video, what can you tell us about both of them?

I think the video tells a great story of the two songs. I’m very happy that they’ve ended up in one video being part of the album story. I love how this has been brought to life in a new way.

🌟 FLASHBACK 🌟

By far the most surreal day I had over the years of having MBU was the day I finally got to meet and work with Alkaline Trio.

I have loved this band since I was 10/11 years old (not far off 31 now) and couldn’t believe when the awesome Haaris Ali emailed me to confirm I had an interview and photo pass.

I was a nervous wreck before hand, I never knew who I would be interviewing, if it would go ahead at all. They always say, “never meet your heroes”, but I couldn’t believe how amazing these three were and all the questions they started asking me about what I did and how MBU became a thing. Their tour manager Andy was the greatest too.

I’ve seen them a few times live and never cease to amaze me. This band can do absolutely nothing wrong in my eyes.

🌟 FLASHBACK 🌟

As a teenager I thought there was no label like Drive Thru Records. One of my favourite bands was on their roster, Hidden In Plain View!

I first saw them in 2005 on the Drive Thru Invasion Tour alongside ALLiSTER, Halifax and I am the Avalanche.

10 years later I was lucky enough the spend the afternoon photographing their sound check and then their gig at night! Still one of my favourite bands, it was an incredible gig and would relive that day in heartbeat. Was surreal to hear Bleed For You and Ashes Ashes during sound check.

🌟 Flashback 🌟

We were lucky enough to join The View for the first day of their six sold out shows at King Tuts. We spent the afternoon documenting their sound check, interviewing them and then their full live set.

Incredible band and one of the best gigs I seen in the last decade.

I meant to do a post on here when the news broke, so sad to hear of the passing of Neil Peart, drummer of the band Rush. My uncle (who is a drummer) used to air drum in the car along to Rush.

Had the privilege of photographing the band in 2013 and he was an absolute master on the drums.

R.I.P Neil!
