Monty was the true hero of this show.
yall are comparing 4x11 clarke betraying bellamy by shutting o out of the bunker to 5x09 bellamy betraying clarke by putting the flame in madi and saying it’s the same but still seem to forget clarke couldn’t actually follow through
Yeah but again all in all what prevents Clarke from taking the Flame from Madi on the next ep and destroy it? I mean it’s not irreversible like death idk on s3 Clarke survived and got the Flame out… (via @istilldothiseveryday )
I mean i guess nothing? but that’s not the point. the point is that despite her begging him not do give madi the flame he decided he was going to do it anyway. when faced with her decision in 4x11 clarke chose to let bellamy go. at the risk of everyone dying. bellamy decided he was going to put the life of a child (whom clarke cares deeply about) at risk because it was what’s best for HIM.
remember, clarke isn’t worried about the chip itself harming madi. it’s about what position having the chip would put her in, and bellamy deciding to do that against clarke’s wishes (when he knows the harm it could bring madi) is not comparable to clarke closing the bunker door in 4x11
Well the thing is here is that Madi also had a choice to make herself. She also had a voice of her own on this episode and we have a scene where Bellamy AND Gaia make this clear, that they wouldn’t force her. They didn’t pressure her (other than “this is how we get to peace”) and they didn’t lie to her. So it’s not bellamy’s choice on what is good FOR HIM. It’s a choice Bellamy brought up to some people, Madi, Gaia and Indra and that they all took knowing what could happen. For the possibility of peace- a situation that would NOT just serve Bellamy.
Don’t get me wrong I disagree with the lengths he was willing to take to get there. Just like I was not okay with Clarke’s ways on ep11. And I’m bugged that he followed through: maybe he did because he at least knew that Madi was willing to do it too. And desperation. But actually I do see a lot of similarities between this and 411, the motives, the “only choice” and the impact of the betrayal itself.
Madi is a child. She doesn’t understand consequences of her actions to the extent adults do. Her guardian, her parent understands consequences of being a commander and she decided that they are too big for a 11/12 year old.
Bellamy did manipulate Madi into taking the chip. He is in a position of authority over her, he is an adult, he is a trusted adult that she sees as just and heroic. He told her “Clarke disapproves” which is an understatement of the century. He played on her emotion by claiming this would save her mother’s life. That’s all manipulation.
Not to mention that Bellamy had another option. Clarke gave it to him. He could have packed up Monty, Harper and Madi and left with Clarke for Eden. Because the option for “peace” is putting a chip that has it’s own agenda into a 12 year old and trust that enough of surviving grounders in the bunker want to follow 12 year old into surrender. That’s a playing with a life of a child on a prayer.
Well is it tho? Because it would be if Bellamy didn’t believe himself that it would save Clarke. But he DOES believe it will save her too. Had Bellamy been a Nightblood he woulda taken the Flame himself to spare Madi from all of this, no matter the consequences for himself. I agree that Madi was in a fragile position but Gaia is a fanatic who is SURE that this religion can rally people around the Commanders again. And Bellamy would have given his life to protect Madi esp if her taking the Flame is on him.
The only “manipulation” I see is Bellamy needing to use Madi as a “pawn” because she is basically the only Nightblood left. But everything he “promises” her to convince her, he believes it too: the peace, the “it will save Clarke”, and all. So did he manipulate himself? While I agree - and I think Bellamy agrees - that it’s a shitty move I didn’t see it as manipulative. It was clearly desperate (and doomed to fail because of that), but Bellamy’s intentions were right where he said they were, to Madi. He basically made her understand that they need to work for the same goals: yes a big responsability for a 12yo but it was the only choice he had. I don’t think Bellamy could have left for Eden, esp NOT with Clarke. So that wasn’t an option for him and it was made very clear on the episode too.
Bellamy was basically stuck between a rock and a hard place. He did what was necessary like a looot of characters on T100 did before him. Still I don’t read manipulation here. He doesn’t abuse Madi’s trust in him because he means to deliver on everything he promises they can have. And I’ll forever believe that Bellamy was willing to sacrifice A LOT (he’s basically put his relationship with Clarke AND his own life on the line) to make it successful and to protect Madi.
Now obvis to me there were like 50 different and better ways for the writers to pull this angst. And I still think that Clarke can just take the Flame and destroy it and totally protect Madi from any harm that could come to her from that situation (esp since Madi was already set up to be sent in the front line in a war, by Octagon). So basically, will they really try and drag this out? And YES I do see it as betrayal from Bellamy to Clarke. But I don’t see it as Bellamy betraying or manipulating Madi.
Why wasn’t it an option for him to leave? That is what I don’t get.
He can’t promise either Clarke or Madi that she will be safe or fine because that’s not in his power to deliver therefore he is manipulating Madi.
Well I don’t know myself? Because somehow putting Octagon in a coma apparently was for nothing and didn’t solve anything? As I said to me there would have been 2748 different ways for the writers to pull this off. But they are creating Plot Drama. Because why couldn’t Bellamy just take Clarke, Madi, Monty and Harper in the Rover and go negociate with Diyoza while O is in a coma? Why couldn’t they have left and become “enemies of Wonkru” like three episodes ago? Why couldn’t have had Indra just ordered Clarke to be released as chief of the army on this very same episode? Why did Bellamy leave Clarke chained up on that episode when you k n o w deep down his first instinct would have been to free her? Eh it’s all characters doing shit just to serve the plot and make it more and more Dramatic™ even if it doesn’t make sense.
Also it’s Bellamy. When hasn’t he made a promise even tho he didn’t know whether or not he could deliver? I feel like it’s something veryyy consistant in his character tbh. Also something that, ironically, is very much Heart of him. Isn’t the intention what matters? What gives strenght to the promise, the strenght he’s willing to put in assuring that he will keep his word? Again, I do recognize that he betrayed CLARKE tho.
Ya’ll still think perfect morals are a thing in this show. Madi was given a choice and was informed of the situation. She made the right choice and I see people saying “Well she’s 11″ as an argument that she’s exploitable. But she still made the choice in the end.

The people using mental illness to defend O’s action but then calling Jasper annoying and his mental illness and PTSD manpain are simply the worst
If we could get the final Jonty scene in script form that would be great thanks. Maybe anything Jasper related.
Bellarke week —-> Day 1: Favorite Season
We’ve been through a lot together, you and I. I didn’t like you at first, that’s no secret. But even then. Every stupid thing you did… it was to protect your sister. She didn’t always see that, but I did. You’ve got such a big heart, Bellamy. People follow you. You inspire them, because of this. But the only way for us to survive is if you use this, too. I got you for that.
what if one night, maybe five or six years into her isolated life on Earth, Clarke is sitting on the rover’s roof as she looks up at the sky, as has become habit. And then suddenly, out of the blue, she just starts… giggling quietly to herself.
Madi stirs in her blankets from within the vehicle and murmurs, “what?”
and Clarke’s laughter fades, but her smile as she looks up at the stars doesn’t. “That foam bit was kind of funny.”
Bellamy is losing and we only have a few hours to go so…could you like…. vote
