I may have a chronic illness, but at least I didn’t get a fucking preventable illness and die because my parents didn’t want the OOOH SPOOKY VACCINE GONNA AUTISM ME or whatever. I’d much rather live like this than die a slow and painful death thay could have been prevented
I spend twelve long years transcribing my medication list into the online portal only to get there and have the specialist ask me, "Do you take any medications?"
"do you take any meds"
do you use the damn portal that has all of my meds logged in it?
Someone sharing a suspicion of ocd by sharing 1 (one) of their symptoms, saying they have more but don’t want to say them in fear of triggering others, is NOT an excuse to say “that’s not ocd at all that’s just being a perfectionist”
LIKE SORRY I DONT WANT TO TRIGGER OTHER PEOPLE WITH MY OBSESSION OF MAKING SURE IM NOT BEING STALKED, I DONT WANT OTHER PEOPLE TO HAVE EPISODES BECAUSE OF ME???
One thing my disability has given me is the inability to envision my future. And I imagine this applies to us all in a sense: the future is unknowable and misshapen and messy. But I cannot for the life of me understand what a future might look like for myself when I can barely function some days, rarely leave the house, and have such finite mental and physical energy. I want to plan and prepare and understand what a future might look like, but my body is so changeable and unreliable that I just can’t.
I hope it’s good, but that’s all I can really do.
“Where do you see yourself five years from now?” Five? I’ve barely got an idea of next month. Hopefully? Doing better. Realistically? Who fucking knows man, get a Time Machine and fo check it out
Hey btw can we stop demonizing cluster b disorders? They’re disorders for a reason, it’s not like people choose to have them or enjoy having them. How about we support their struggles just like we do cluster A disorders and other mental disorders that aren’t PDs
Note: I do not have a PD, although multiple people I consider friends do. I’ve seen way too much abuse of pwPDs and it just makes me sad to see my friends bashed and demonized for something they had no choice in and something that causes them distress
if your neuro diversity activism doesn't include people with psychosis then it's worthless I'm not sorry to say
So true, I’ve either seen people think it makes someone evil or people think it’s the silliest thing ever and like. No??? It’s a mental disorder not a defining factor of someone’s morality, and we should support people regardless of any internal biases about it
having chronic pain is just like. ur sitting perfectly still doing nothing meanwhile the space above your head keeps flashing -1hp -1hp -1hp -1hp -1hp -1hp -1hp -1hp -1hp -1hp

Transracial is not valid
Transautistic is not valid
Any transabled identity out there is not valid.
You cannot change your race. You cannot just gain a disability like you can obtain hormones. And why would you wanna be disabled??? Why?? Having autism, ADHD, DID, etc. is not just some fun aesthetic thing these are life changing and sometimes terrifying disorders to have. Idealizing and glamorizing is just as bad as demonizing and fear mongering.
As a guy with both acquired disabilities and disability from birth, I *completely* support people who have acquired a disability later in life due to literally whatever reason. If that describes you, you have an acquired disability. If you want to transition to being disabled, you are ableist. If you have BIID, you are valid because BIID is not a choice. If you think BIID is ableist, I recommend you research it. If you think acquiring a disability makes you cool or trendy, you should get off my blog and do some real research.
I am agreeing with OP. I just feel very strongly about this topic.
Counting absences as unexcused even when you have a doctor's note is ableist. No i wont elaborate
Elaboration not needed. Factually correct statement
"sickness, self-portrait" 10x10 acrylic on canvas
about feeling defined by illness and disability, and that all I'll ever be is a sick person trying to masquerade as something more.
disabled people!!!
what are some illnesses/disabilities that youve never seen representation for and would love to see?
let me know in replies reblogs asks messages whatever suits you :3
I'd love to see EDS!! most often, hypermobility is only shown as a "cool trick" in media, and I could really use some proper rep!
While I was out with my boyfriend, some kid who was talking about being a gangster turned to me and went, "Look at her cane! Kick her cane!!!" 😭 Reminder that even though a lot of people who use canes can walk without them, DONT KICK PEOPLES CANES??? I thought that was common knowledge but I fear it isn't...
someone kicked my cane out from under me one time, and even though i only use it part time, when I am using it, i very much use it to support my weight. although i can stand and walk without my cane, this guy kicked it while i was putting about half of my weight on it (i had just dislocated my knee)
and then i fell and dislocated my shoulder
don't kick canes. ankles are a privilege, and getting hit in the ankle with a cane hurts :)
Me: Hello doctor, can I get tested for [thing]?
Doctor: sure, but before we do, let's put you on this medication that you have told me makes your symptoms of [thing] practically go away
Me: doesn't make sense but sure, doctor
[1 test later]
Doctor: well based off the results, I didn't see any signs of [thing]
Me: gee I wonder who could've predicted that outcome
font rant below cut - I think it's important
STOP USING TIMES NEW ROMAN (and other fonts with high thick/thin contrast) IN ACADEMIC SETTINGS/ANY LONG PARAGRAPHS
[pt] Stop using Times New Roman (and other fonts with high/thick/thin contrast) in academic settings/any long paragraphs [end pt]
I'm learning typography right now, and something that has been repeatedly said is that Times New Roman is not a good font for readability. (Note that readability is not the same as legibility. Readability aims to make a large section of body text easy to recognize and understand, while legibility applies to a specific word or phrase, usually a title or headline.) Times New Roman has a lot of thick/thin contrast, meaning that each letter is made up of both (very) thick and (very) thin lines. This causes more "visual clutter," as my teacher puts it, and makes the text less readable. It also affects dyslexia and visual impairments more than its low thick/thin contrast counterparts.
Times New Roman is also a serif font, meaning that it has the funny little things on the ends of letters, like this recreation of the Vogue font:
The funky things on the ends of the letters are serifs. These decorative lines, while pretty, make a font less readable. Serif fonts are best for headlines, titles, or small bursts of text. Sans serif (lit. "without serif") fonts don't have these funky decorations. By default, Tumblr uses a sans serif, Helvetica. Some of the themes use serif fonts, but default and dark mode use Helvetica. The lack of thick/thin contrast and distracting (albeit cool) serifs gives the brain less information to process, making words more recognizable. This helps people like me who are visually impaired. I'm not dyslexic, but I've heard that it can help dyslexic people as well.
In modern academia, there is no reason to be using Times New Roman for everything in existence. There is more to the readability equation, but this is just a rant on the funny hellsite. Helvetica and Ariel are no less "professional" than Garamond or Times New Roman, and the former two fonts make writing much more accessible than the latter two.
Also, Comic Sans is only annoying because it's overused in professional settings to make things seem more "fun."
reblogging this here for the accessibility talk i do
Hot take it’s not actually accessible if I have to ask an abled body person for help or assistance
Adding on, if it's there but never functional, not accessible
