Every time i think about the 'scully giving up william' arc in s9, and how hard David and Gillian (and Shiban!) lobbied against it but were obviously overruled, I can't let go of the feeling that Chris was punishing D and G with it. Somehow. For some reason. And used the excuse that it was easier to write and film around and supposedly didn't change the tone of the show to sell it to the studio. But that for some reason he didn't want Mulder and Scully to keep the baby especially because David and Gillian did want Mulder and Scully to be happy and keep the baby. I don't know why and I don't have anything to go on besides general patterns with the show and the actors' frustration about it, but there's a lot about s9 that feels a lot like he's trying to assert something to somebody and none of it's good -- and Will's fate definitely feels a part of that.
