The sad truth I've found about the American school system is that it is easier to make people believe you're stupid than to convince them that you're smart.

I think this is something that everybody who is struggling with their gender identity needs to read. A friend of mine came out as transgender to a few friends in a Facebook group. Someone in the group who didn't really know him sent him this message. I think it is beautiful and gives me hope.
