Yes, I wore a dress in Antarctica, and yes, I’m fully aware that my idea of an epic photo will likely never make it in something like Nat Geo. But I’d rather be the one to shake up the typical search results and be the first one to do something different! (Story of my life) 😜💃🏼🐧 . Some other reasons why I did it: I often get judged for what I wear on my adventures as if it’s a requirement to look rugged or boyish, or as if I’m not capable of doing something because I prefer feminine clothing. Well. I’m pretty sure I’m standing on a volcanic island and got myself to Antarctica, so also pretty sure I’ll wear whatever the hell I want there. Did the same on Kilimanjaro 💁‍♀️. . I also see my photos as an artistic (slightly obnoxious) representation of the world from my eyes. And I put A LOT of effort into getting them (you try carrying long dresses and camera equipment around everywhere!) So I have so much love for you who enjoy my mini masterpieces. I also hope you too will always do and wear whatever YOU want. . I should probably also touch in the fact that I’m sleeveless...in Antarctica. It was technically summer there, and this is a volcanic island, but even I was shocked at how warm it was! If you don’t believe in the rising temps, look at this pic a little longer! . Since summer is technically “over” but not really bc I’m in LA, I decided to do a 180 switch up this week while I’m binge-working to reminisce about Antarctica last December, which is the number one adventure you guys said has been your favorite of mine! 🇦🇶 ❄️🐧 . Just in case you weren’t here the before December to hear my non-stop obsession with getting to Antarctica (and my 7th continent before I turned 30), it was the number one destination on my bucketlist, and hands down the most exciting, memorable experience I’ve ever had! . It took me 4 years to convince an expedition company that it was a good idea to allow a blogger/influencer on the journey - most said millennials aren’t their target audience but I was determined to prove that wrong, and I somehow ended up convincing 5 other adventurous souls to come with me! . Yewww! Just cruisin’ on into LA in time for Labor Day Weekend like I just drove off a movie set (namely Black Panther) thanks to @lexususa! 🏎 😎 . I got to do a #lexustestdrive with this #lexuslc500 for a whole week...a lot different than riding motorbikes in Bali for a month...just wish I could drive it like in the movie (I keep it in eco-mode since my track record with vehicles isn’t the best) since it has 471 horsepower! . Yes, I’m a girl who likes to drive fast cars (I’ve always had a Mustang), yes I get annoyed when people assume “it’s probably her bf’s car” 🙄😂😜 . Anyway! Hope you’re all having a great day off work! Fun fact: Labor Day began when manufacturing workers created a strike against obscenely long work weeks — initially they were striking for less than 70 hours, and 6 day work weeks. Not going to lie, I thought for sure that after all my accidents, trauma, and new anxiety, I was going to be scared or un-motivated to do the things I love.... . But WRONG!!! If anything, continuing to do things like chase waterfalls has made it better! Even just looking at old photos of them helps! . One sure way to avoid people in your pics : Swing over them. 😜🌿🐒 . Also helps to get places as early as possible, which for me isn’t always ideal since I’m the opposite of a morning person and I prefer bright blue skies for photos over white, but I won’t deny that these famous rice fields get PACKED unless you go early or are good at night photography! . #MondayMotivation :: Once you realize how powerful Queen Earth is, and how small you physically are, you’ll have a better perspective and understanding of just how valuable and amazing life is, and what your role in it plays.🌏 👑 💎 : I’ve felt and seen the Earth shake about ten times since I’ve been in Bali this month, including three last night (plus one during the day) while staying in this tree house, due to the non-stop earthquakes on and around Lombok. . During the first ones two weeks ago, I thought I was automatically going to die, then when I realized people did, I wanted to help. Helping made me realize how fortunate I am, and feeling even more earthquakes later made me realize how true the quote “we’re all on borrowed time” is. . So my message to you this Monday is to really think about the time you have here on the beautiful Earth, and what you’re doing with it. Are you harnessing your inner power and awesomeness, or are you living in fear/doubt/misdirection? . Hiiiyyy 👋 I’m Alyssa and this is me initially fake-laughing for a photo then actually laughing at myself for trying to get this pic. 😬🙈🤷‍♀️ . That being said...I was recently featured in a tell-all article on @cosmopolitan (literally my girlhood dreams come true) about the secrets of being a travel “influencer” that we don’t really show, so I decided to do a quick summary of my life which answers the top questions people ask! . Here it goes with my top 10 answers, but feel free to see the more entertaining Q&A on my Highlights!😜 . 1. Alyssa Ramos, Cuban-American, 30 y/o . 2. Started blogging 6 years ago, Instagram 4 years ago, and now both are my full time job. . 3. I take 90% of my own photos (with a tripod and remote), I started doing it with a pawn shop camera, and now I use a Sony a7riii. 💁‍♀️ . 4. I built my now-6-figure-income from nothing — meaning I didn’t have rich parents, a significant other, or investor helping me travel, take photos, invest in my crazy ass idea, etc. All I had was a big dream, die-hard motivation, and this thing called Google. . 5. I’ve been fully nomadic for 2 years now, meaning no official home, just a suitcase and a storage unit. . 6. I prefer epic adventures 100% over vacation destinations, and have checked off so many of my top bucketlist ticks that I got them tattooed on my arm (7 continents, 7 World Wonders, 7Wonders of Nature, Kilimanjaro, Big 5 Animals of Africa, Great Barrier Reef, Easter Island) . 7. My college degree is in Biology/Animal Science — I always wanted to be a vet because I love animals so much..and I still just want to find a way to help them all, and legit think I’m an animal whisperer. . 8. I have the opposite of fear of heights and sharks. And I’m a vegetarian for moral reasons, but I don’t like most vegetables. . 9. I have chronic lucid dreaming which means I know I’m dreaming and can control what’s going on ...every night...and it’s really annoying for me. Everyone said I was in the perfect place to restore and find wellness here in Bali, and I couldn't agree more! One of the main reasons I come back here every year is because of the healthy lifestyle and positive vibes it gives off! Friday Vibes :: Trying to balance work, play, and helping others at the same time. The monkey was not entertained by it but was nice enough to hang out anyway 😻🐒 . I’m really proud to say in just this week, we not only hosted our planned, intensive blogger bootcamp despite earthquake scares, but also successfully jumped into action with your help to raise well over $5k in one day to get the people on Lombok emergency supplies. One of the most iconic photo spots in Bali made famous by social media, so much so that they’ve now set up a kiosk in front of it and charge to take photos there, proving the power of the internet and influence. 💥 . Also proving the power of the internet, is the incredible fact that thanks to about 60 of you (so far), we’ve already reached almost $3.5k of our $5k fundraising goal for the supplies we’re going to buy in Bali to send over to Lombok’s earthquake victims!!!!! . There was a third earthquake today of magnitude 6.2, and we’re getting more and more videos and photos of the destruction they leave. I REALLY hope they stop soon, but in the mean time am so excited to be able to get these supplies over soon since I have faith we’re going to reach our goal in one day! 💪 . Crazy to think this was the exact spot we all ran outside to last night as we felt and watched the earthquake in Lombok rock us miles away in Bali. . Somehow it looked and felt so peaceful and grounded to lay here, with all the flowers that fell from the tree...well, until I realized they probably all fell from the earth shaking. . While I’m once again so grateful we are all Ok in my group, and that my brain was able to snap into flight mode to help get everyone outside as the massive 200+ lb light fixtures swayed above us (see my Stories), my heart deeply goes out to those on Lombok next door who have fallen forever due to these last two earthquakes, to their families, to everyone whose homes have been destroyed and lives shaken. I know we were all literally shaking so I can’t even imagine how those who are being evacuated must feel. . Bali has been such a perfect place to rest, play, immerse in culture...and experience two earthquakes in one week. 😳🙈😭🙏💖 . Not joking, just when I was all lightened up from the wonderful locals who taught me about their traditional clothing, yoga, and dancing to alleviate anxiety...and convinced I was going to have better luck...a second earthquake happened in the same spot in Lombok, but this time I was awake and could fully see the effects (swaying) at our place in Bali! . So grateful and happy to feel like I’m almost back to my “normal” self! For anyone who doesn’t know me, I take photos, work, and go on adventures every day, without a day off, and this week I didn’t do any of that until today due to an accident and anxiety attack that put me in the hospital. 😭 . I know people give social media a bad name sometimes, but honestly, this has been my best form of therapy! I read and took all of your comments seriously on my last post, and I feel like it was your support and suggestions that got me through the weird sudden trauma-anxiety I experienced earlier this week following my bus accident. . This life of traveling full time, also as your career, and always public, has its perks for sure, but I’ll never hide the behind the scenes aspect of it which involves accidents and heath-well being! . I’m grateful now more than ever to acknowledge that I’ve made myself such a strong, motivated, hard-working, open-minded, and empathetic person through travel, and grateful for the opportunity to show others how much it can change your life as well! .
