Pride Month!! Marvel Imagine
Imagine coming out to the Avengers and them being a little confused, but supportive.
This was it, this was the scariest day of your life. You had to do it, there was no choice. Your friends deserved the truth, after everything you had been through. So you dressed up in your most comfortable and masculine clothes that you had and headed down to the common room.
“Friday, can you tell everyone to meet me in the common room? I have an announcement to make,” You fidgeted and looked down at your feet.
“Certainly (Y/N), would you like me to order take out?”.
You smiled to yourself and said, “Yes please, Friday,”.
When you got to the common room you saw that almost everyone was there, even Tony and Bruce, which was a surprise because they were almost always in their labs. You took a deep breathe in and walked over to everyone.
“Guys, there’s something that I have to tell you about. It’s important, and I think that it’s time you know,” You smiled at them, but it was slightly dimmer.
Steve smiled at you, encouraging you to speak. You looked around at the others not sure what they might think. Steve’s little gesture both relaxed you and stressed you out. Honestly, Thor and him where the ones who stressed you out the most, because they probably didn’t even know what you were about to tell them was.
“Go on Sugar-Plum, you’ve got nothing to worry about,” Tony laughed and his eyes crinkled when he smiled in a way that made you feel all warm inside.
“Right, thanks tony.” You nodded your head at him, and then said, “Um, ok, well I haven’t been completely honest with all of you,” You paused and took a deep breathe, trying to calm your nerves. You twiddled with your hands before saying, “I’m transgender. I was born biologically female, but I identify and feel like a male. I’ve gone through TOP surgery, the removal of my chest, and I have been on Testosterone for about 8 years now, and I’m saving up to have bottom surgery.” You blew out a big breathe and then closed your eyes waiting for their reactions.
When none of them said anything you opened your eyes to see most of them smiling at you. That was good, it meant that at least more than half the team accepted you. But that left Thor and Steve frowning, and that didn’t make you feel good at all. Maybe you shouldn’t have told them. It’s not like you had to, it technically wasn’t something that they needed to know. But they were like your family, and you wanted to be open and honest with them.
“I do not understand this much son of (L/N), but I will learn and support you,” Thor’s booming voice and kind words calmed you, so you turned towards Steve with a smile on your face. But your smile turned into a frown when you saw Steve’s face.
You knew that this would be an issue because Steve was from the 40′s, where there where almost no out trans people, and if they where they were blacklisted and treated as trash. Steve looked confused and kind of hurt, which left you confused too.
“So are you a-a, girl? Does this mean your a lesbian now?” Steve’s questions where kind of hurtful and a little offensive, but you had to remember when he was from and where he was now. At least he wasn’t trying to beat you or tell you that you weren’t trans.
“Um, no I’m not a girl, I’m a boy, and no I don’t like women. I’m very fond of men.” You twitched while you waited for his reaction, and it wasn’t what you where expecting.
Steve got up and walked out of the room, and you cringed before tearing up.
The others came to comfort you and told you words of encouragement. They told you that it didn’t matter and that you were still the same old (Y/N), that nothing had really changed. You remember hearing that some of them had suspected, but didn’t say anything, wanting you to come and tell them yourself. You loved them and their words meant so much to you, but Steve was like your brother and his response had hurt you.
---------------------------------------------------
A week later and Steve still hadn’t talked to you. It was frustrating and you where really hurt by his actions. Was he really so repulsed by you that he wouldn’t even come out of his room. Even Thor was better than that. He would ask you questions and you would answer them or tell him if they were too personal or incentive. But Steve’s absence hurt you and the others could tell. You could hear them whispering when you weren’t looking about talking to Steve and beating some sense into him. You didn’t know what to do.
It was when you where sitting alone by the windows of the compound that Steve finally came out of his room. He walked to the common room where you where and sat beside you.
It was quiet before he spoke, “I’m sorry about my reaction the other day. You have to understand that the time I’m from didn’t have transgender people, and gay people could have been beaten to death.”
You nodded at him to continue, and he did, “I left because I was confused, and I wanted to learn more, so that maybe I could support you or help you. (Y/N), please look at me,” Steve pleaded with you and in surprise you turned to him. His eyes where so sincere, that it made you want to cry.
“I’ve been doing research with the help of Friday for the last week, and I’m sorry if you felt that I didn’t support or love you with this. Your like my brother and I never want to hurt you. This will be an adjustment for me, but just know that I don’t care what you are or who you love, your family and thats all that matters.”
You smiled with tears rolling down your face and hugged Steve as tight as you could, never wanting to let go.
