My toxic trait is that if I find a product I like I want to keep using the same product forever. It's not even brand loyalty. It's called stop changing and discontinuing everything.
You know Jones soda cap, as a tumblr user i can actually say i think I have.
Walked a 5k today for my city's Pride week. First 5k of my life.
Did the thing in 55 min, which is a PR. (I'm not a workout person, so that doesn't actually matter much to me, but hey, did the thing. 😝)
The difference between "There used to be hot summers too,” and a climate crisis.
Look, we all know this is true. But there isn't a SOURCE for this, and the graph itself is basically illegible beyond "ooh colors". If we want to be good stewards of our informational resources, we need to cite our sources.
From a reverse image search, I found the website Show Your Stripes, run by the University of Reading in the UK, which is likely where the above graph originated. It provides temperature data for various regions of the world from approximately 1900-2025. For example, here are graphs for Canada, India, and Papua New Guinea:
All clearly show a sharp rise in temperature beginning around approximately the 1980s, which corresponds with the graph in OP's post. But now we know where this data came from, and we can verify its validity accordingly.
here’s a picture of a baby cedar waxwing begging for food from a robin. neither of these species are nest parasites, so it’s not possible the cedar waxwing was ‘adopted’. this is essentially the bird version of tapping a random person on the shoulder at the grocery store and going “MOM”
x
I love that the robin’s body language is basically WHAT THE FUCK WHOSE KID IS THIS
Robin is bathing which make’s it even funnier. More like the equivalent of a strange kid barging in while you’re taking a shower and demanding you make them mac n cheese right now
"Hey, Myri, how are things?"
Welp, I'm walking in a Pride 5k Fun Run/Walk thing this weekend, and in preparation for that (doing a lot of long walks in my free time, yay?), I ended up getting blisters on the balls of both feet...the Wednesday before the 5k.
So, y'know, if that gives you an idea of how nice the Universe (TM) has been to me lately............

I've been meaning to make a post talking about my stroke because y'all got bits and pieces of the recovery but I never actually told the story of HOW it went down and the thing is the type of stroke I had is usually the type young people have and since having mine i've now heard multiple stories of people under 40 having very similar strokes and the scary thing is, is that they didn't get help right away. Because you're young and healthy and sure you feel weird but it'll pass right? but it doesn't, and it gets worse, and by the time you get to the hospital (some people literally take days to go) the deficits are worse and recovery is harder.
so here's a super long post about strokes in general, and mine in particular/what I went through.
Some of you might remember me talking about this when it happened- please read and be aware that strokes can happen at any age!
For anyone who has ever had covid before, please be sure you are aware of stroke symptoms. Each successive infection raises the risk in a pretty major way, and a lot of people are dying young due to not knowing these signs or being afraid to act on them. Please take care of yourselves.
Worth mentioning that a very good reason to take Paxlovid if you get covid isn't just to stay out of the hospital short-term, but to reduce the covid-induced massive jump in your cardiac event risk for the next two years - this is honestly the main reason I would rec younger folks take Paxlovid if they get covid. Repeating those stroke signs so folks don't miss them behind the cut: Balance loss, Eyesight changes, Face drooping, Arm weakness, Speech difficulty, -> Time to call 911.
When people say "defund the police is too scary" ask them how scary this graphic is and ask if the funding police get correlates to the conditions in the city or if that same money would be better off reallocated to... Let's say a fucking library
[photo id: a billboard that says "do you know how YOUR city resources are being spent?" And has a bar graph that shows that in that city, 16 million dollars is spent on health, 26 million dollars on libraries, 128 million dollars on fire, 136 million dollars on public works, and 314 million dollars on the police. /End id]
I suggest funding your local library and using your local library to get into police abolition!

It's called the Global Justice Report, it is here. This is an actionable plan which can be sent to legislators and demanded of political parties. We could save the world within our lifetimes.
It has always been possible. It is still possible.
I cant believe this tweet is how I find out
now all the things you guys have told me about american high schools are starting to make sense
holy shit.
You're not really supposed to say it this way, because its considered crass, but here in the US children are culturally and legally considered essentially the property of their parents.
Note that its considered more crass to point this out than it is to treat children as property in the first place.
Next up someone is going to claim that the Narnia series isn't kids books.
Kids books is probably not the best way to word it, you can enjoy them at every age, including your childhood, as you get older you may find new truths in them, but they're still good for any age.
