Well said on all points - and if you don't have time to write maybe consider entering prompt events in your fandom! Unlike exchanges where you get matched up and create art or fic for another participant to receive a piece, you leave a prompt (or several, depending on the event!) and people can fill it!

I've had a lot of fun filling prompts from those events, often things that really catch my creative spark with an idea or pairing I hadn't considered before.

It also helps to remember that nobody is automatically amazing at any skill. You start at the beginning. Before you can walk, you learn to stand. Before you stand, you crawl. Before you can even crawl you have to learn to roll. So roll around a bit! Maybe you're not going to be the next top sprinter or marathon winner, but you might just find yourself having fun hiking or jogging with friends 💙

Possibly my spiciest take is that it's actually good to have people you respect and like that have some dogshit takes.

I think part of what is making young people lonelier, in discussing why they're increasingly isolated, is that they're so afraid of meeting someone who doesn't hold their same beliefs, and instead of being just core beliefs it is kinda ancillary shit.

It's actually okay to disagree even on social topics! Even on some political ones! But I mean, online you can start with "i love this mutual but they have a really bad/uninformed opinion about x media"

I know this is IMMEDIATELY going to be taken in bad faith, and yes babygirl, you are so right, I DO want you to go make best friends with both the KKK grand wizard AND your nearest nazi leader.

But seriously, as someone who has spent two decades doing community organization: finding ways to connect with different people is so so so important. There are people i follow here who ate 80% smart and their brain falls out of their head 20% of the time and that is GOOD FOR MY MENTAL ECOSYSTEM AND GOOD FOR LEARNING HOW TO BE A PERSON

I love asking people how their parents met. You always get an interesting reply. My best friend’s parents met on the relatively new internet in 1999. My other friend’s parents met at Burger King when one was the manager and the other was a regular customer. My parents met at the beach because they were neighbors in their rental houses, mom was on a church trip and dad was getting blackout drunk every night with his friends next door.
