Because fiber arts are really cool and can connect you with so many people and communities and cultures across space and time and people with conservative politics will always be limited in their ability to access these methods of learning about the world around them

"Gettin' a Hand on the Future", i guess? machine pieced the diamonds and machine applique'd the hand, but the flower itself is done by hand. also hand quilted! the brown diamonds were naturally dyed using cutch and madder, and there are a few other naturally dyed fabrics in the rest of the patchwork. the backing (not photographed) was dyed with goldenrod!

I used this pattern, but I made the inner brim the same as the outer brim (because I wanted to use that particular silver/white yarn), and I added two tentacle types of my own devising because I wanted to involve a kinda sea-ish pastel variegated yarn I thrifted/to have an even more dense and voluminous crown of neurotoxic stingers. >:3c

The extra tentacles are simple doubled-strand chains using the pastel yarn with the other yarns featured in the hat, and single-strand chains of the pastel yarn with little iridescent beads on the end. It was my first time crocheting with beads like that, and now that I understand how it works I'll absolutely be doing it again!

And yes... It's sooooo much fun to wear and shake my tentacles around! I'm excited to actually wear it out when it gets cool again, and already have tentative plans to wear it to Arts Walk/Procession of the Species next spring. <3

I love the concept of sutures. Like there was a time in history where someone looked at a wound that could not close on its own, that nature itself had deemed to be lethal, and just went "well how about I just sew it close fuck you."

I asked my grandfather to make me a loom twice the size of the one I've had since I was a kid 🥹 he did such a good job and I can't wait to play with it! This was my first attempt, I'll have to explore other materials since the knots are not ideal, but what a privilege it is to have a loom made with love!

"Sealed with a Fish", from Wild Animal Knits by Melinda Coss. Knit with John Arbon Devonia and Devon Naturals DK yarn.

This took much longer than usual to knit -- I don't know if I was just spending less time knitting, or if it was the complex intarsia (the waves involved 10+ balls of yarn 😭). I'm really happy with it, it was a lot of fun to knit, and I can't wait to wear it (in a few months time...)
