The Promises We Keep

Pairing: Aemond Targaryen x fem!reader

It was a promise kept between you two. 

Fly Vhagar into the sky so you’d know he was okay.

It was disheartening knowing there was bad blood within your family. Everybody was against one another whether it be by actions or words alone. No matter the rift, you had always had a soft spot for Aemond.

He was the outcast. The one who didn’t have a dragon. Always quiet and kept. He never liked to be in anybody’s company whenever the boys teased him but with your constant presence by his side, he became used to it.

There was comfort in his presence especially since you were the only girl in yours.

There was always Halaena but she always muttered things that you never quite understood. Though when she spoke in a clear voice some of the subjects she’d talk about would scare you. All she would ever mention was death which led you to seek out  Aemond more than ever since you two didn’t have anywhere else to go.

Your mother and queen Alicent took notice of your ever-growing bond with each other and often tried to find ways to separate you two without being blatant in their actions whenever your grandfather was present.

Aemond would often make promises that he swore he’d fulfill. One of them was that he would claim the largest dragon, Vhagar. He kept his word and a new version of Aemond emerged once he made the bond.

He was more confident in everything he did. Not everyone was happy and gaining a dragon cost him an eye.

The day he had to leave you made him promise to fly his dragon in the night sky. It made him smile to know riding Vhagar was truly something you couldn’t miss with her sheer size.

Aemond also made you promise him that one day you’d marry each other. He spoke that no one else in the world would understand him better.

So as cold as it was outside that made you tremble it was worth it to look up into the night sky at the dragon in the distance, knowing he was safe.

From the first time you saw each other you knew it could never be, but the way he looked at you. It had your heart racing, your stomach fluttering, and your hair standing up.

There was an energy between you both and you weren’t the only one to feel it. Your families exchanged looks. Wary ones. One saying, ‘this can never happen and we will do everything in our power to stop it from fruition.’

In your head, you knew this mustn’t happen that even dwelling on it was absurd. Though in your heart you knew this man was bound to you in some unspeakable way even if it went against everything your family wanted.

It was worth the risk of both your lives to at least live long enough for whatever time would allow your love to grow.
