It just hit me that I am learning a language. Now, this may seem obvious giving I've spent the last few months spending a few hours most days attempting to learn Korean, but hear me out.

It is one thing to read a textbook or audio lesson and study by yourself. It is another to hear words spoken aloud in a second language and instantly realize what it means. It is another to see words in another language and be able to read it, even if you need to sound it out in order to do so. It is another thing to casually greet your friend in another language and have them greet you back as it is as natural to do so as in English.

Suddenly, it is like I just understand more now. I can't explain it. I study now and something has changed. It is exciting and fun and I've probably been studying far too much given my eyes are now 24/7 tired and blurred since I need new glasses.

Learning Korean means so, so much to me. It is not just someone to do during a pandemic or so I can watch k-dramas without subtitles. It feels like it has breathed a spark of life and passion back into me that I haven't felt since I was a teenager. It has given me a new sense of purpose, a goal, and has changed my life for the better in a way I honestly could have never had expected.

Ah this a delightful reminder that you must take time to be proud of yourself for what you have accomplished instead of being distraught over what you have not yet accomplished.
