uhhh decided to make a system blog because sometimes we say stuff and realize that not everyone is aware that we have people in our head

isat, in stars and time, is an indie rpg. in which, main character Siffrin, gets stuck in a timeloop.

Mirabelle originally was the one meant to save Vaugaurde (her country) from The King (trapping the country in time) and so after fleeing Dormont's House of Change, where she was blessed with immunity to The King's time freeze, she met, in order, Isabeau (A defender), Odile (A traveler/"researcher"), Siffrin (A traveler with no history or last name), and Bonnie (A preteen)

Mirabelle came to the defenders of Jouvente searching for help in her immense task of saving her country and was shut down, Isabeau was the only one to take on the task of joining her. If I remember correctly, he resents them for this.

Odile had joined the two of them because "leaving the fate of a country to a bunch of young ones would give me an ulcer". No other reason is really described besides a general, very spoilery, traveling reason

Siffrin had joined them after saving the three from a particularly strong sadness (main enemies) They stayed with them partially because he had "nothing better to do". He describes being with the party to Mirabelle as the happiest he could ever remember being

Bonnie, the last to join the group, was found fleeing from their hometown (Bambouche) after it had been frozen in time. Their sister told them to run as far as possible. Siffrin found them exhausted and the party reluctantly agreed to take them along as to keep them safe from the curse

Mirabelle, Isabeau, and Bonnie are all from Vaugaurde and follow the Change belief. Odile is from Ka Bue, and believes in expressions (im not describing this with the respect it deserves sorry).

Siffrin is from.. ....... and believes in The Universe and the stars. A belief that only he and an extremely small portion of the population remember.

Also important to know that Siffrin has incredibly low self esteem and definitely needs years upon years of therapy for. various reasons.

um. all that is explained early on in the game i think? hard to describe it without getting too deep in spoilers >_<,, (ok. whoops. realized I rambled a lot. i have a lot to say about this game <//3 entirely from memory excluding the two direct quotes)

I talk about it a lot because well, *waves*, Im Siffrin. Its my source <3

my favorite color is orange! i don't really have a favorite tv show, but i'll put on a good comedy or action series! i like disney movies, but specifically the fun ones like brave or monsters inc :)

i listen to a lot of indie music! (clairo, los campinsinos, the happy fits, good kid, etc)

there is. so much i dont know where to start.

I guess I already kinda started talking about Odile so ill start with her

(this is so so long. once I get going about these guys Im going)

so. a big part of Siffrin's interactions with Odile up until after the act 3 friend quest is about her "research". of which. there is none

theres no research!!

It was just a simple disguised reason she came up with to why she had been traveling, the real reason being a lot more personal. That reason being her mother.

Odile's mother, as extensively explained in her friend quest, was Vaugaurdian and had left her at a very early age leaving Odile with only her father. Odile is resentful of how her mother had stripped her of that part of her culture without even considering the effects it could have had on her child.

In an attempt to reconnect with her mother's side, she ventured to Vaugaurde. She learned from the locals, asked many questions (as she does with the party in game). But this was never quite close enough. At some point in her travels, she met a shopkeeper (i believe) who had a familytale. Odile asked about it and was told it was a multigenerational story book, it kept everything important to that family line and it typically stayed within the family and wasn't shared. Since then she wanted to get her hands on one.

And thats what the friend quest is, Siffrin finding a familytale and Odile explaining why it is significant to her.

Siffrin shares a similar type of disconnect from his culture but not for the same reason.

Their reason being that their country was entirely removed from the planet. Their language gave people headaches. Just thinking about the name of the Forgotten Island gives headaches. In the House, there is a room that prompts Siffrin to discuss the stars with his family/party. As he does, they all brush it off as impossible and silly. which is incredibly off putting. the stars are so integral to his beliefs, and yet, everyone around him forgets their existence

He has no memory of their childhood due to it being spent on the Forgotten Island/Country. This is part of why he attaches to firmly to his party members, they are all he knows. They are all the love he can ever remember receiving

back to friend quests, Mirabelle

Big part of her friend quest is about her being aroace! (exciting!! canon and very important to her character!!! I love Mira so much) and how that interacts with her belief of change

To start her friend quest you must learn the contents of her papers, bonding (in universe equivalent of marriage) proposals/dating profiles. She discusses this with Siffrin. Trying to pick someone she could love. Her attempts ultimately resulting in a grand total of zero progress. She finds herself stuck.

Mirabelle holds her religious belief very close, shes very involved with it. She's taking hundreds of classes at the House (not an exaggeration) and is a Housemaiden herself. And part of that means she believes she needs to change herself. Being romantically involved with someone would be a huge change! So she has to do that right!? But she just doesn’t see herself loving someone romantically, she doesnt want to "do things". It feels bad and weird and she doesn’t want to! And she cant. She cant love someone like that.

She feels so much pressure from the cultural expectation to change even when it contradicts her personal wants. Surely she's broken for feeling this way..?

Siffrin listens to this, and responds with his own asexual experience. He convinces her that its ok to feel the way she does. Letting her "change by not changing"

And thats the end of her friend quest.

ough stars. I could talk about Isabeau's as well (canon but not explicitly said transmasc) but this post is so long.
