X and Nice's relationship: a theory
Okay, I know this might just be my delulu theory as an XNice shipper… but after rewatching with a clear mind, I still have some questions and analysis
When Nice fought Dragon Boy, everyone (except for one loyal fan of Nice) was eager to kill him without even knowing what actually happened. They quickly judged that Nice was on the wrong side because he didn’t "help" Dragon Boy and instead let Hero Smile "attack" him. From their perspective, it’s understandable—especially since Hero Smile was infected by fear value while Nice seemed to do nothing.
However, X was so quick to judge that Nice wasn’t in the wrong. He immediately saved Nice.
I don’t think X was carefully observing the fight between Nice and Dragon Boy (if he had been, he would have immediately saved both Hero Smile and Nice). X’s action of saving Nice felt more like instinct rather than a calculated move. And somehow, it’s as if he already knew Nice wasn’t the type to attack without reason.
With X’s power, it would have been easy for him to stop the fight by transporting both Nice and Dragon Boy to another dimension, like he usually does in combat. But instead, X chose to evacuate Nice to somewhere close by first, rather than throwing both of them into the river to end the fight like he did with Dragon Boy. It’s as if he specifically wanted to save Nice—almost like he knew that Nice wasn’t the kind of person who would attack a hero without reason.
It’s actually interesting why Nice ended up lying down instead of standing. He was in the middle of a fight, after all.
Nice didn’t even know who X was. However, judging by how quickly X saved him and chose to evacuate him, I think X already knew who Nice was.
Nice was chasing X, who jumped off almost like a reflex (as if running away)… but somehow, Nice’s landing posture was perfectly like X’s.
It’s almost as if Nice slipped into X’s dimension… or maybe X allowed him to enter his dimension.
In this 3D reality, Nice had a microexpression of surprise at X’s power—how easily he defeated Dragon Boy by folding him into paper before throwing him into the river.
Through this transition, I think Nice actually entered X’s dimension and witnessed X’s power firsthand.
And this information is important, because…
No one really knows how X’s power works.
Queen didn’t know what happened in their fight until she lost. Smile only heard the snapping sound. However, Nice actually saw it—how X folded Dragon Boy and threw him into the river. He even zoned out for a moment, like… how is that even possible?
And this leaves a question: why did X let Nice witness his power when he never lets anyone else see it?
Why did X trust Nice enough to reveal his fighting style, as if he didn’t care whether his identity and power were exposed to him?
I’m also curious why X somehow ended up saving Nice when he still had a hangover after drinking. X even stated that he hates overworking… but somehow, he was right in the middle of Nice vs. Dragon Boy after just vomiting?
I don’t think it was because of Hero Smile. X didn’t even want to change into his hero persona when Smile asked. Maybe he intended to look for Smile, but I don’t think their relationship was strong enough for X to willingly search for him in his hero persona—especially after vomiting. And I doubt X’s apartment was anywhere near the underbridge where Dragon Boy vs. Smile happened.
Or maybe… he was just wandering to the river so he could sleep again after throwing up. Yeah, that’s also a possibility.
Regarding X’s interactions with other heroes and civilians, it’s also interesting. He’s not the type of person who hangs out with others unless some extrovert decides to “adopt” him, like Hero Smile did. His gestures show that he doesn’t care what anyone thinks, and he prefers to live a normal life instead of chasing the top hero rank.
I’ve explored X’s personality in in this post before. To summarize: as an INTP, he’s the kind of guy who doesn’t give a single f*ck about anything unless it sparks his interest.
However, X fought with Wreck—even DOS documented their relationship. X also bought a magazine after reading about Treeman’s apartment scandal that involved Nice’s name.
So, what kind of “spark” did Nice and Wreck have that made X actually interact with them? Unlike Hero Smile, who “adopted” him as an extrovert, Nice and Wreck had no obvious reason to spark X’s attention.
I think X fights with others when they irritate or challenge him. But I don’t think Wreck is someone who would irritate or challenge X—he only cares about following the script as Nice’s fake nemesis. With this, I have a hypothesis: maybe it wasn’t Wreck himself who sparked X, but rather something connected to Nice.
Especially considering X’s gesture of buying that magazine when it reported Treeman’s property scandal, with Nice’s name involved.
I love their parallelism in the MV and hero designs. They both have a touch of perfectionism, and their main hero color is white. X’s formal hero outfit actually reminds me of Nice’s casual clothes. And as a salaryman… X actually has a really good sense of fashion.
However, I wonder—why did X choose white as his main color? Out of all the hero designs we’ve seen, somehow only X and Nice use white as their dominant theme.
For Nice, it’s understandable because Mr. Shang wanted to make him as “perfect” as possible. But for X… his whole aesthetic is also white, even his hair is dyed white. Is there a deeper reason behind this, or did he simply choose that design to make his identity harder to recognize?
With this point in mind, I start to think that maybe Nice and X had some kind of relationship even before they both became heroes. Their dynamic feels more familial—maybe X is Nice’s brother, cousin, or something along those lines. Or perhaps they used to be neighbors, or had a junior-senior relationship.
The way X saves Nice, and the fact that Nice witnessed X’s powers, feels like a big justification for that theory.
