Shout out to ALL nonbinary people who are considered "stereotypical", get little positivity, and every time their identity is mentioned, it's to remind other people they don't have to be like them.

"Nonbinary is not a third gender" for some people it is. "Nonbinary people don't owe you androgyny" but we're allowed to desire it. "Being nonbinary is a rebellion against gender roles" if it is for you, cool. But my gender is not a political movement and not everyone feels comfortable with statements like this.

criminal minds is a very interesting show because it makes frequent attempts to be socially progressive but misses the mark because it is, fundamentally, A Cop Show with a cast of characters who must be in unequivocal support of the u.s. government and its justice system. like, there's these moments throughout the show where sometimes an unsub will look at morgan and ask him how he can stomach not only being in league with people who perpetuate antiblack violence, but working for a government that has peddled racism its entire existence. he always gives some non-answer and it's framed as a fruitless attempt to knock him off his game, despite the fact that it's... a very real question? or the times when cops are being targeted and the team asks how someone could hate cops -- they're heroes! you'd have to be crazy to think otherwise! and it's like well no actually i don't glorify a profession where 12% of people have openly admitted to committing domestic violence; not even mentioning the rest of the laundry list of problems with officers.

in most copaganda shows i've seen, the writers don't even attempt to bring up racism, classism, or ableism within the justice system and so you can kind of suspend your disbelief and pretend they take place in universes where cops are somehow less shitty, but criminal minds makes an effort to try and combat claims of systemic inequality that kind of just make it fall flat.

you know what, "because i'm in pain" is a good enough reason as any. why do you want to take meds? in pain. why do you wanna cancel? in pain. why didn't you want to talk? in pain. yeah don't be a jerk to everyone you meet and expect them to welcome that. but why were you being a jerk? in pain. it's a reasonable explanation. being in pain should be enough of an explanation. it should be considered an immediate problem that we try to fix as soon as possible instead of expecting the vast majority of people alive to just get on with it.
