Teachers in my district are required to ‘donate’ a sick day every year to a sick day ‘bank’ for staff who have serious illness and/or family with serious illnesses.

We live in a world that doesn’t allow people who are seriously ill and/or dying to stop working, and/or to help family who are seriously ill and/or dying.

There’s just no system set up to support people in this position, so every day citizens are expected to make these sacrifices instead.

We need safety nets for vulnerable people. Not these bandaid solutions.
