Hello!! I had some things I wanted to ask you about! (Because I want to attempt todo something with my cuphead au but I'm having some issues deciding on some stuff)
Your au seems to balance lighthearted "mundane" for lack of better word, questions that simply get to know characters (like a "typical" qna askblog ig) with questions and story beats part of or related to a larger plot. I was curious if you had some tips on how you manage to balance plot/lore with simple lightheartedness because I want to keep both of those aspects that I like on my story
But I keep running into blocks that make meshing those ideas that I have together very difficult. In my mind it's a little harder to mix the idea of something like a shenanigans ask blog with a plot driven ask blog without compromising entirely on both and leaning entirely into one more than the other.
(also I'm finding difficulty coming up with even a vague idea for a plot, even if I kept it story driven, which makes deciding on if I even want to do a story and or how to mesh them even harder, even though I came up with a setting that pleases me)
If you had any advice at all to give for any of this I would really appreciate it (but I won't force you of course, I'm just curious how you go about managing it the way you do so I can't figure out how I would like to do it that works for myself yk?)

Having a plot thought out before hand definitely helps figure out that balance. I wont say im the best writer, but im better than i was before.
I particularly have a deep love for slice of life stories, but, slice of life stories that have continuity. Even if things dont get super intense, we are still following a bit of a story. Of course, showbiz does have a bit more that your typical “slice of life” but i still treated it as such for the prolouge. Why? So we can learn more about the characters and bond with them before things get intense. Its alot easier for me to write characters after figuring out the “mundane” about them.
Transitioning to plot/story beats can be difficult, but since it’s an ask blog you can get away with bringing up something that feels sudden. Whats important is transitioning OUT of tension. I usually use slightly less and less heavy asks to do this. For example cuphead’s experience with death being followed up with mugman’s refusal to talk about it:
Its still on topic, but it makes sense for mugman to kind of move the topic AWAY from the intense question. Which it slowly does.
If you’re going to run an ASK BLOG specifically, you have to get REALLY good with using asks to your advantage. Although i would not recommend making your comic an ask blog tbh. I LOVE ASK BLOGS BUT FUCK THEY ARE HARD TO RUN WHEN YOU HAVE EITHER A SMALL FOLLOWING ORRRR PEOPLE ARENT ASKING THE RIGHT QUESTIONS 😭
Showbiz is slowly going to become less slice of lifey, and more story driven as time goes on, thats just how i like to write my stories i suppose.

Ok so first of all I think that Alice and Bendy are debt collectors for The Devil
Taking into consideration that King Dice has said that The devil has some "mighty-fine show ponies" when all his other attempts failed (I mean cmon srsly ur j sending two-pointed gnomes to a gun show... What did we think was gonna happen?? 😭)
Why do they owe their soul though? I got two possibilities: 1. They joined King Dice's lil gameshow and won leading their souls to be in possession of the devil or 2. They needed funds for their show and took a risk with the casino
I do believe that they do actually love dancing and singing; it's not j a means to manipulate people. I mean look at these whimsical and joyous faces
Seeming as they know how to showbiz (lmao get it? get it- 💥💥💥) and act they can clearly allure people who may owe their souls to the devil and snatch em from there without ever having to fight or get their hands dirty!
Yes I'm aware that the song is from another series BUT THATS NOT THE POINT HERE (lemme be delusional)
Now the song itself Last Call i'd like to think is a nod to the fact that this may be the Devil's only other attempt at actually getting Cuphead's soul since... The trio has basically fucked Any Other Method thus far (since this is following the game from what I've seen) so if this method also fails, well he's gonna have to go back to sending imps again that has been proven to fail time after time no matter the numbers
"Let's have some fun boys! There's no where to run huh!" Remember how in my last SBAS analysis I said they probably like to play with their targets? Yeah that lmao. I SAW THE SMILES ON THEIR FACES DURING THE INSTURMENTAL OF THE SONG THEY KNOW THEY GOTTEM

Also a bit of a tiny tidbit here that I rlly find funny

"We're gonna dance 'til the break of dawn" now IF my previous theory was correct (that they owe their soul) then they're probably not gonna give up, (never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down, never go-💥💥💥) and well as the lyrics state, they won't stop until they get their goal. This may be their last job to being free since The Devil is just ABSOLUTELY FED UP with The Trio. Which would add to their motivation to snatching his soul and as well as heighten the stakes!
"Pour one less cocktail, a Mary Pickford | Top me off, boy, 'cause I want it all" now I don't unfortunately have anything for this AHSHAHAHHA I'm drawing a complete blank. So if y'all have any thoughts I'd be happy to hear em!

Now Southside cocktail has a rather refreshing taste which is the exact opposite of the first line. They are literally giving them their refreshing taste of freedom IF their souls are captured + this also being their "Last Call" to being free
"Oh baby, let's drown our blues, dance the sun away" NOW THIS IS HOW I THINK ALICE IS GONNA GET TO MUGMAN. Think abt it! He's extremely paranoid and he's always getting attacked by imps and there's also the stress of having to find out how make Chalice corpeal! And then there's NOW having to work with Saltbaker. There's always something in his mind that isn't always good. Alice becomes HIS Southside cocktail instead! Giving him the joy and whimsy of singing and dancing I'm so fucking jealous of this stupid lil ceramic GETTTTT OOOUUUTTTT MUGMAN.
"There's no tomorrow, let's live for today" well I mean I think we know the implication on this one. But I think I have another: this gives a sense of urgency to try to fit everything into one time! Not wanting to leave anything for later-- there's stress in it, a push that might make Mugman take that one wrong step

Netflix Avatar feels like made by creators who are fans of the original cartoon, but haven't actually watched it in some time.
Like they got some iconic moments and funny jokes, but most of them at the wrong moment and a few of them were added just to be there. Most story beats are kind of there, but mixed up, like they didn't note down when what happened and why. And, worst of all, the original characterisation of everyone is lost in the past.
I feel like it is more frustrating the more recent the latest rewatch of the cartoon has been.
