You have to admire her audacity, if nothing else.
Literally my favourite thing about Rogue One is that it makes the opening of New Hope so funny. Like, Vader has followed Leia from a planet he just blew up seconds ago and pursued her across the galaxy and then she’s just like: ‘I’m on a diplomatic mission to Alderaan’
Vader: You’re a rebel. I just had a fight with your entire rebel fleet and followed you here. Straight from the rebels. Of which you are a part
Leia: *dramatic gasp* rebel? Me??? I was just passing through. Diplomatically. Thought it was a five-space-ship pile-up or something going on there…
death star plans? on my alderaanian diplomatic mission? it’s more likely than you think

My latest piece: Our Blessed Rebel Queen, Carrie Fisher
done in watercolour and ink.
Carrie Fisher has always been a great inspiration to me. As someone who suffers from depression and anxiety, I wanted to create a piece to bring me and comfort and strength. To look upon Space Mom and say “yes, I can face today.”

Why study for exams when you can deduce the answers based on context clues from other questions and then use those answers to provide you with even more context clues for even more questions in an hour-long stress-fueled Professor Layton-esque logic puzzle extravaganza of future-hinging doom.

When someone says these days sexism and misogyny don’t exist anymore show them this.
““The absence of women within STEM programs is not only progressive, it is persistent,” Hope Jahren writes in a recent essay in the New York Times.
“Indeed, despite programs designed to interest girls in STEM, GoldieBlox, and supermodels celebrating the virtues of coding, the fields are still overwhelmingly male and seem virtually resistant to change. Jahren, a geochemist and geobiologist, argues that the problem is hardly one of enthusiasm, but rather widespread sexual harassment in the fields that, unsurprisingly, goes unpunished.
The kind of sexual harassment Jahren describes is hardly that of a Mad Men episode: groping and outright dickishness are easier to label and condemn as sexual harassment (and it’s worth noting that STEM has a problem with that too).
Rather, it’s the kind that prioritizes men’s feelings, and their expression of them, over the simple act of treating a woman as a professional colleague. Jahren persuasively argues that the persistence of this kind of behavior—the constant demand from both male colleagues and academic advisors that their feelings be acknowledged and legitimized—is one of the reasons women leave STEM fields.
An email forwarded to Jahren by a former student asking her advice typifies the problem:
[The student] forwarded an email she had received from a senior colleague that opened, “Can I share something deeply personal with you?” Within the email, he detonates what he described as a “truth bomb”: “All I know is that from the first day I talked to you, there hadn’t been a single day or hour when you weren’t on my mind.” He tells her she is “incredibly attractive” and “adorably dorky.” He reminds her, in detail, of how he has helped her professionally: “I couldn’t believe the things I was compelled to do for you.” He describes being near her as “exhilarating and frustrating at the same time” and himself as “utterly unable to get a grip” as a result. He closes by assuring her, “That’s just the way things are and you’re gonna have to deal with me until one of us leaves.”
It’s hard to imagine that the sender of the email thought that it would earn him the romantic admiration of his female colleague, coupled as it is with a vague threat likely meant to convey the authentic intensity of his attraction. And yet, as Jahren writes, this behavior has “been encountered by every single woman I know.”

Yup. Had a male coworker send me a message asking me out. Turned an easy going, tolerable job into a stressful one.
I’m a woman in science and I’m early career. Here are some of the things I’ve witnessed:
- Men in their forties, directors of departments, preying on female interns and referring to then as ‘fresh meat’.
- One director sent repeated bad reviews of an intern to her place of study because she reported him for sexual harassment. When her uni stopped accepting reports from this man, he submitted bad reports in the name of one of his subordinates.
- the same director dated another female intern and after she called it off without having slept with him, bullied another intern who was friends with her so badly that she complained to HR. Nothing was done.
- A female intern being subjected to sexually inappropriate and misogynistic comments (such as being told to make her graphs pink because she’s a girl) by her older male boss. When she reported this, nothing was done.
- Men harassing women so badly that women leave the building to have lunch and mute their office messenger so that they don’t have to deal with it.
- Men abusing company credit cards for ‘team meals’ that turned out to only include female members of staff and female interns from other teams.
- male directors taking full credit for their female subordinates work, even data from laboratory experiments and coding that they obviously hadn’t done themselves because they are too senior.
- men inappropriately touching female colleagues at work, including when they were in the lab doing experiments and physically couldn’t move from the bench.
- men neglecting their female staff to go on coffee dates and take time off, leaving them to do all the lab work and write full scientific papers for publication with no support.
- when scientific departments were cut women seemed to make up the majority of redundancies
- women making up the majority of low level research/technical roles with men being in directorial and senior positions
- Women being made to take pay cuts because they had difficult pregnancies that required lots of time off, that they weren’t allowed to take as sick leave because ‘pregnancy isn’t a sickness’.
- I was called a ‘stupid little girl’ by a senior member of a university faculty for making a mistake that was easily made and rectified.
- men casually making jokes about rape in front of female students.
- men accusing women of being ‘upset’ or ‘emotional’ when they disagreed with them in meetings
- men from different lab groups interfering with women’s management of their staff because they didn’t trust women to instruct and train them properly
- Being stared at/ogled daily, having conversations where men will just stare at your breasts
Most of these things happened in companies with female CEOs.

i thought you guys would find this thread i wrote interesting
Obviously I want you to take care of your pets and make sure they get food and fresh water on a regular basis, but cats being huge drama queens and screaming hysterically at you and acting like they’re tragic famine victims who haven’t eaten in weeks and are about to drop dead from starvation right mcfuckin now, because you’re 10 minutes late feeding them is always going to be one of the funniest things to me
the cat who lives at the vet clinic i volunteer at was mad yesterday because his dinner was half an hour late due to a busy day. he proceeded to go to all the (empty dw) garbage cans and tried to knock them over and started desperately scavenging for scraps of food because obviously no one loves him or cares about him and if he must eat garbage to survive then so be it
not food related, but one time my cat cried at me for 20 minutes before i worked out that the reason why she was upset was because there was a coat hanger on her favourite cushion
This is absolutely beautiful and changed my life, thank you so much. Please protect her from hangers at all costs
wow. am STORVING and humaines here making joke laugh at cate honger ?!
My cat is a social eater who is not food motivated at all, so I was baffled when I first got him because he didn’t seem to care about food but he would SCREAM at me for hours when I knew his bowl was full. Any time I went to double check that he did indeed have food, he’d book it to the bowl and snarf like his life depended on it, but as soon as I walked away he’d follow me screaming again.
Eventually I figured out that he just wanted a dining companion and was screaming about how we’re a family and families eat together, god damnit! I moved his food bowl under my computer desk and it fixed the problem. But if I’m ever out for more than 12 hours I’ll come home to find him in a passive-aggressive kitty huff because dinner has been ready for hours but he’s been trying to be considerate (unlike some humans) and waiting for me to eat it.
Things my cat has cried at:
I wouldn’t let her jump on top of the burning hot stove
I moved my coat so that she couldn’t scale the kitchen chair and jump on people’s shoulders when they walked past
I didn’t scratch her cheek firmly enough
She ate her entire meal allowance for the day in one sitting at 9am and was famished by 10am
I didn’t let her sit behind me on the toilet seat
I wouldn’t let her eat toothpaste
I wouldn’t let her eat the cork from a wine bottle
I wouldn’t let her eat the straw that my rabbit had pissed on
Cats are inherently ridiculous creatures and this is why they are perfect.
