Revamped my oc Taurus and gave him a fresh redesign!✨
Summary:
Taurus (or Tau “tah-ow” for short) was a frumentarius deployed as a mole in the Mojave Express. As a courier he was able to relay information to the legion easily. Until he was tasked with delivering a platinum chip, leading to Benny shooting him in the head and losing all memory. Upon waking up; he had to rediscover who he wanted to be from the ground up, completely unaware he was ever legion until he finds Vulpes in Nipton…
Name: Tau (Courier Six)
Age: 29
Height: 5’4
Pronouns: He/him
Ethnicity: Mixed Latino/white
Orientation: Confirmed Bachelor
Special:
[S: 3][P: 8][E: 2][C: 9][I: 7][A: 5][L: 7]
Personality:
[Before memory wipe] He was highly disciplined, methodical, serious, quiet, snide, confident and wholly devoted to the Legion. He had little care for anyone else’s well being if it wasn’t in the interest of the Legion. Being small, he was best suited for discrete Frumentarii work instead of direct combat and was capable of adopting a fake friendly bubbly persona to make people trust him and/or underestimate him.
[After memory wipe] The persona he used to fake undercover became sincere and he became genuinely gentle natured, naive and actively took joy in helping others. He’s messy, impulsive, sarcastic and affectionate. He’s quite anxious but does his best to bury it; Holding his doubts close to his chest and bottling his emotions. He is driven to do what he believes is morally right and struggles with compromise. He hates everything the Legion stands for but also has a deep distain for the NCR for its internal corruption.
History before memory wipe:
8 Years Old…
Tau was an orphan that was treated poorly in his community so when his people were colonised into the Legion he was easily manipulated into thinking he owed the Legion for saving him. He was indoctrinated at a similar time to Vulpes and were also both close in age, with Vulpes being only a few years older (approximately 4?) Due to this they became very close friends in training.
12 Years Old…
Vulpes passed training first and quickly reached Decanus with his talent; whereas Tau’s small size held him at a disadvantage. Tau survived training too but the two drifted out of contact being in different circles due to the difference in rank and skill level.
15 Years Old…
A few years later and Tau found himself placed in a Decanus’ squad, and the Decanus was none other than Vulpes himself. Their reunion was short lived however as Vulpes was once again promoted and scouted into the Frumentarii after Vulpes disobeyed direct orders because he could see a sure fire strategy to win that particular battle that his superior had refused to listen to.
16 - 18 Years Old…
Vulpes recommended Tau for the Frumentarii; and they often worked together with Tau as Vulpes’ support. As frumentarii their missions would frequently required them to leave Legion territory. Therefore they were far more educated on the world and cultural practices outside of the legion.
[TW: Gender dysphoria] Vulpes became suspicious that something was wrong medically with Tau over the past few years. Tau had started binding which impacted his ability to breathe; and due to binding unsafely also caused him severe pain. Vulpes had quietly researched medical books on the side and began to figure out what was wrong with Tau.
Vulpes ended up confronting Tau with his findings. Tau was less educated on the topic as all he knew was that he was a boy and always had been. No one in his life had ever questioned how he presented, he looked and acted like any other prepubescent boy; but recently his body had been changing and he hadn’t known why and had been trying to cover it up.
Vulpes shared the research materials and that Tau’s problems could be fixed medically with hormonal replacement and he wouldn’t need to bind if he had top surgery. They discretely arranged for it to happen to fit in with their given mission so the Legion wouldn’t suspect anything. (As the Legion was against medical intervention and had a violent stigma against female presenting bodies). The successful surgery was covered up as severe injuries from a fabricated battle. This would be the first time Vulpes acted selfishly and against Legion morals to protect his best friend. Although he remained loyal to the Legion, he made it so it was easier for Tau to serve to Legion with him, so he felt it was justified…
20 - 26 Years Old…
Eventually Vulpes got promoted to the leader of the Frumentarii having perfected the art of masterful scheming and the two would spend less time together and typically worked separated. Tau was one of Vulpes’ most trusted men with Tau being entirely devoted and loyal to Vulpes (and therefore to Caesar’s Legion by proxy).
“Absence makes the heart grow fonder”, somewhere along the line, the line of friendship or something closer than that began to blur. They didn’t label their relationship however and remained professional in public. In private quarters the two were soft with each other. Vulpes would let Tau stay in his tent and on cold nights it wasn’t uncommon for them to cuddle. This behaviour never made it outside of private quarters, and no one knew of their closeness.
27 Years Old…
Tau had been placed as a mole in the Mojave Express as a it served as a strategic placement to intercept ongoings in the Mojave. As a courier Tau was able to win people’s trust easy and obtain knowledge, discretely passing on his findings encrypted to Vulpes for him to disentangle.
28 Years Old…
The last message Vulpes received was that House was making a move and having different couriers carry different random items, Tau was tasked with carrying a platinum chip but he wasn’t uncovered the importance of any of the objects yet and would write back when he did…
29 Years Old…
After getting shot in the head, Tau lost all his memories and spent a year recovering in Goodsprings.
As he was staying with Doc Mitchell, he decided to make himself useful to earn his keep and help assist him treating patients and picked up a strong base of medical knowledge from the doctor.
Tau got along well with the people of Goodsprings and would help out with odd jobs and protecting the small settlement from hostile geckos and powder ganger raids.
Meanwhile Vulpes became concerned that Tau had stopped reporting back and didn’t know if Tau had been killed, compromised and held hostage somewhere or even worse, if he had defected from the Legion entirely.
Tau eventually left Goodsprings following the trail Benny left behind to try and find more information; perhaps he could tell him about Tau’s past. All he knew was he must have been a courier from what he could uncover in Goodsprings.
[… and thus begins the story of Tau! I’ll write out the rest in a different post someday to save this one from getting too long.]
Please feel free to drop me any asks about Tau/Vulpes 🎉
It’s temporary design since idk what colour he’ll end up being when more release? I’m so tempted to design his quad Varwolf form too but I might totally change my mind when I see the other potential colours 🥲 so am holding off on drawing his Varwolf form for now!
