As much as Genesis needed to tell him the information she had found on his wife, and her cheating, part of her felt bad about it. She admittedly, had become a little too friendly with him and thought if she told him, it would shatter his whole world if he knew the whole truth. Obviously, Bennett knew some of the truth, because he had hired her to discover the truth. But he probably thought he was just assuming things and making an ass out of himself and her, and that his wife wasn’t actually cheating.

The fact that his wife was cheating really bummed Genesis out. It made her hate having to break the news to him, when usually breaking bad news was her favorite part of her job as a private investigator.

She hated the idea of breaking the news so much, that she decided to break it to him lightly at her favorite diner. One where they served shakes. So, even though he was going to get some crap news, he’d get it with a chocolate shake.

Letting out a sigh, she takes a long sip of her vanilla shake, before she says, “If it matters to you so much, I can just give it you.” Her eyes avert away from him and she takes in a shaky breath.

He looks worried, but he’s always looked somewhat like he’s worried. Like he’s on the verge of a breakdown. “I’d rather hear it from you than anyone else.” He says, looking directly at her, making her nod firmly.

She gets out a photo of his wife and another man, kissing at the park. “I’m sorry, man. I really am. But it’s the worst case scenario.” She puts another photo of them together, heading to what appears to be his home. “I wish I could tell you your wife wasn’t a cheat, but yeah, she kindaaa sortaaa sucks?” Her hands open in an open-armed shrug, and then she watches as he makes a few facial expressions that she can’t quite read, and then one that seems completely hurt.

“It’s like I knew it was happening, it’s just…seeing the proof, it hurts?” He shrugs.

Genesis reaches out and squeezes his arm. “It always does, man. But look on the bright side, you can start over, find some other gal who’s crazy over your sad cow eyes, and treats you much better than she ever did.” She shrugs slightly. “I mean, I think you’re worth it. Coming from a gal who’s met many people who suck and many amazing people, as well.” She smiles.

He somehow smiles back. “Means a lot coming from you. But I think I’m going to be sore for a couple of days.” He sighs. “Thanks for the milkshake, kinda eases the pain.”

She nods. “Yeah, did for me, too.”

His eyebrow perks up. “For you, too? Someone cheated on you before?” ”Hard to believe, but yeah, a good while back. But it’s fine now. I’m survived the heartbreak. You’ll survive it, too.” She takes another sip of her milkshake.

“Sure do hope so.”

“You will,” she says, “Everyone always does.”
