Spent my whole fucking day gathering all the useful resources I have about Ukraine in one place only for tumblr to deny posting it :(((

So anyway, I put it on my blog and made a separate google doc. The sources are mostly in english and collected with a purpose of having quick references under the hand.

What's your favourite Ukrainian proverb?

Easy, "шо занадто то нездраво" 😂 (what's too much is not healthy) or "шо посієш те пожнеш" about the conses of your quences (we are reaping what we're sowing)

I think I use both of them rather often

"Говорили, балакали - сіли й заплакали" I really like how poetically it sounds "we were talking, we have been yapping, but then we sat down and started crying from the amount of talking"

"Не кажи гоп поки не перескочив" (don't say /hop/ until you have jumped over) and "Не лізь поперед батька в пекло" (don't rush ahead of your father to hell) (both about rushing needlessly)

And of course, "don't push the horses" as well as "I'm very feel," Usyk special. Great expressions 🎉

I see this as an interesting interactive so I hope you don't mind if I join :'D my granny used a lot of proverbs and it's a part of our cultural heritage. So this phrases are important for me.

Плив-плив, а на березі всрався ("he was swimming and swimming and shitted on the shore", it's often used when someone begings to do anything but wasn't able to finish because of different obstacles)

Нагадай козі про смерть, де не ходить — там і пердь ("remind a goat of death, where it goes — it shits", my grandma used this phrase when I was picking some dumb word and was laughing at it when I was a kid)

Згадав, як срать сідав, а як надувсь — так і забувсь ("He remembered when he got to shit and then he forgot", she used it when someone unexpected reminded of themselves because they somehow remembered about her)

Вспомнила баба, як дівкою була ("The elderly remembered, how she was a young girl", when I remembered something from years ago really suddenly)

Книжка в сумці, хуй на думці ("The book is in the bag, the dick is on the mind", when someone pretends to be smart but actually they aren't)

Горобцям дулі крутити ("To show to sparrows duli" because I don't know how to translate dulya, it's a gesture that is created by putting thumb in-between index finger and middle finger. The phrase is often used when someone asks what to do and there's no visible options)

Срала-мазала, в піч лазила ("She was shitting and greasing, she was climbing into the oven", when someone does something really badly on purpose.

My forever favourite:

Важко жити, шкода вмерти. “Living is hard, dying is a pity (regretful)”. Self explanatory I believe.

Another one to the pile:

Разом і батька бити легше. A nice wisdom that praises teamwork that helps you achieve so much more, but you don’t expect the translation. “Even beating (one’s) father is easier together”. Teamwork!

"everyone should get more aromantic" can appeal to tumblr's sensibilities but I genuinely think everyone should also get more asexual. I don't mean everyone stop having sex, what I mean is

Sex is not essential. You can live without it. Full stop.

Not having sex isn't shameful or a sign of failure. It also doesn't make anyone boring.

You are not entitled to having sex with anybody and nobody is entitled to having sex with you.

Sex is not what makes someone an adult.

Nobody's worth is defined by how much sex they have or don't have.

Sex is not equally important to everyone.

You can have fulfilling and happy relationships without sex.

You should only have sex on your own terms, not because you feel like you owe it to someone, or because you feel like you'd be incomplete without it.

Know your boundaries around sex and be firm about them. Know how to respect other people's boundaries.

The previous point also applies when it comes to discussing sex. If someone doesn't wanna talk about it or hear about it you have to back down.

Anything can be sexual but not everything has to be sexual.

This is easily one of the CRAZIEST videos I've ever gotten. I was rafting down a river when a Yellow Jacket came, landed on my bright pink waterproof phone pouch, and started drinking from the water droplets that had gathered there.

The most amazing part is how the water droplet magnifies the Hornet's mouth parts, so you get to see them up-close!!!! It was FASCINATING to witness!

things in phm that really tickled me as a marine biologist:

the concept of star-eating microbes causing a crisis and the solution being the introduction of space wolves to space yellowstone to control the space elk population. i love a good trophic cascade

dr ryland grace immediately pitching "turn the spaceship into a giant centrifuge to generate gravity" and then not balancing his actual centrifuge later on

the entire "life is reason" scene really

grace forgetting to open the mystery alien container in a fume hood AND immediately sticking his nose in it. if we did this in chemistry lab we were executed on the spot

academia drama being one of the cornerstones of grace's character

grace switching through every spectrum setting on the microscope to try to see into the astrophages and not being able to (relatable)

also: the astrophage dying and grace going "ohhh it died..." (very relatable)

grace having his not-scientist buddy Carl to give him frank solutions when he's overthinking. yes, often the solution is just to put the box in another box

copious duct tape usage

just sticking a filter into the path of the petrova line to collect astrophage goop

eva going "so it's alive" when grace tells them the astrophage are moving, and him being like "WELL ok that could be for a lot of reasons" in the tone of someone who doesn't even know where to start explaining why that's a hasty assumption

grace referring to the first new astrophage as his and carl's baby multiple times (HIGHLY relatable)
