So. I showed you Bug's begging dance yesterday, but I feel you should get to see the death drill as well. When she actually gets a mouse, she performs the death drill- a rapid back and forth shake of her head with her beak almost against the ground, that would extremely efficiently kill any small animal she got her beak on in the wild.
Thankfully she is not in the wild and the mouse is already dead, but she doesn't know that.
Also it's just impressive how the mouse disappears. Schlorp. No horking necessary.
Anyway, I think about the death drill a lot. I wonder if velociraptors did this to small prey items. If archeopteryx did. If compsognathus did. They had hands, or at least front claws, but I wonder if they did this still. How many ghosts of dinosaurs past echo in her behaviors?
Free Ornamentation IV. This work is dedicated to the public domain 🐌
I turned them into individual transparent pngs if anyone wants those premade!
(Op lmk if you want me to take this down, I'd totally understand—on the other hand, I'd love to do it for the other public domain pieces you've done if that's ok!)
This otherwise unassuming taxidermied foal, displayed at the Danum Gallery, Library and Museum, represents the only known preserved quagga hybrid. The foal, born in the early 1800s at Owston Hall in Doncaster, was the result of a coupling between a donkey stallion and a quagga mare. [ x ]

THIS is the comic that has been banned
It was flagged as "Eksplicit", shadowbanned, and every reblog turned invisible. The flagging is also unappealable (unless that is an error, thanks tumblr)
Happy Trans Day of Invisibility from your tumblr mods!
Only found out because I tried to reblog with an update from your local trans unicorn siblings!
I cannot even LINK to my old comic without every new post getting deleted.
And yet, we will CONTINUE to exist, and grow, and find each other. We will be visible up to and beyond our own deaths. Because we stand for love. We love ourselves and each other and that just makes us stronger.
Happy pride!
The original post was pardoned, but the shadowban still persisted and every reblog was hidden from the dash and flagged explicit. I'm not sure if it recovered by now, or if it's always going to be at risk of banning.
So whatever staff reviewed my complaint agreed that it wasn't explicit. So thank you for that, moderator. This highlights that the problem starts with bad actors reporting anything they don't like, and that it's a tossup if your appeal is seen by a bot, a normal human, or a bigot.
I'm grateful I can still touch people and spread positivity. Many of my queer siblings, brothers, and sisters - especially trans sisters - can't say the same.
But no matter what happens, we will always have each other. Every letter in our alphabet is a pillar holding up a beautiful world that only stands if we're all in it together. The rest of society may call you a monster, but it calls me one too. Maybe you won't hear it from the rest of them, but listen and you will hear it from me.
I love you.
I always will.
Cute little rainbow heart for pride month tumblr but how about you stop disproportionally banning trans women and marking sfw queer posts as mature
happy june!!!!! 💖🌈🌤

The group chat officially deemed me an “eccentric” just because I’m doing an Argonian ichthyologist play-through of Skyrim rn where my character is writing a thesis on Cyrodilic Spadetails and I shared the character’s hypothetical research folder that I created to help with my immersion in the role.
Like sorry I take the RP in RPG seriously but how else would I get into the headspace of a character who is only slaying dragons to sell their bones and fund research that will hopefully be published in the Tamriel Journal of Limnetic Science??

people who have never grown food for sustenance or to supplement their diet have such an extreme view of it. I guess that’s what happens when generations of people are living lives completely divorced from cultivation, harvesting, processing, slaughtering. in theory they believe it’s the easiest thing ever - that it should come naturally to every human ever born, simply because you’re a human. then you ask them if they would ever kill a chicken hypothetically, and they act like you shot their pet in front of them.
The first time I saw a deer up close was in my grandfather’s back yard; I was about four years old. I don’t remember the reason that my mom dropped me off at my grandfather’s house for an afternoon, but I know that it was unplanned - because he was in the middle of processing a deer. It had been field dressed, organs already removed, and was hanging by its ankle tendons from the t-shaped steel pole at one end of the backyard clothesline. I was startled, worried, concerned that the animal was hurt. There was blood! There was flesh!
My grandfather responded by calmly explaining what he was doing, step by step. Explaining why he was skinning the deer, and quartering it, taking it from this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White-tailed_deer to this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venison
By the time he was cooking tenderloin medallions and plating them up to me with grape jelly (don’t knock grape jelly on meat until you’ve tried it!) and instant mashed potatoes, I wasn’t startled or concerned anymore. I had a deeper understanding of the way the world worked, of my role as a consumer, a predator. Of the responsibilities that entailed. I couldn’t have explained it then, of course, with my 4-year-old mind and vocabulary - but Philosophy had been set into motion. This is a core memory for me.
I did not have nightmares about the butchered deer.
More people should be introduced, as little children, to their place in the ecosystem and the responsibilities that entails.
I’ve never personally butchered anything but my family used to grow some of our own vegetables when I was a kid. Corn, squash, tomatoes, peppers, herbs, etc. we even tried grinding our own flour for a little bit but that didn’t last long because if you’ve ever ground flour by hand you understand.
People have such a romantic view of farming and growing food but a lot of my summers as a kid was spent trying to come up with ways to stop birds from eating our vegetables, planting other plants and releasing insects to keep other insects away, and pulling weeds.
Food doesn’t just sit there all pretty growing in the sun. Everything wants to steal it away from you. Agriculture even on a small scale is a never ending battle against insects, other plants stealing water and sunlight, birds, small mammals. You are not the only one who wants the fruits of your labor.
It’s important to remember that. Every tomato you eat is one that survived the never ending assault of insects and birds.
I was looking for a good picture of a hellbender for an article I’m writing and I found these which maybe aren’t “good” for an article but my god are they Good
