Rewatching 9-1-1 over the hiatus has been a TRIP, especially since my little brother has joined my rewatch as a first time viewer.
We’re at season 5 now, near the end where Eddie is going through his mental health crisis. Buck just brought Eddie to the equine therapy center to see Charlie again. I knew what was coming, but I was really reminded just how much Buck loves Eddie. I see it all the time, Buck going out of his way for Eddie (which is reciprocated, but not in the same…outward way), but he LOVES Eddie. And honestly, seeing the way he acts around Taylor- there’s literally no comparing it. He kisses Lucy, then essentially traps Taylor into staying by asking her to move in with him (which is CRAZY and absolutely one of the top evilest things that man ever did), and then two episodes later goes out of his way to help Eddie in the midst of Eddie’s mental crisis.
And I get it! Eddie is just his best friend, and Taylor is his girlfriend. He’s known Eddie longer, and there’s a sense of trust there that doesn’t and can’t exist with any girlfriend (or boyfriend) that Buck would have, but that’s kind of my point. There is NOTHING Buck wouldn’t do for Eddie, and that just won’t exist for any future love interest. We see that a lot with Tommy in seasons 7 & 8.
I’ll talk about Eddie now for a minute. This is actually something my brother noticed, so I’ll say something that he said to me earlier. Eddie loves Buck in a more subtle, blink and ya miss it way. Christopher is the greatest example of this- Chris is Eddie’s BEATING HEART, and he keeps trusting him to Buck. Eddie also just knows how to comfort Buck, or talk sense into Buck, or just generally get through to him in a way that literally nobody else can. Eddie KNOWS Buck, and knowing him is loving him.
Anyway..the rewatch is going well! Brother says season 5 is very depressing, which it is. It was my main complaint about it while I was watching. I quite like season 5 on a rewatch though! The depressing parts are easier to stomach now that I know what happens.
It’s my birthday, and as someone who’s historically had bad birthdays … I would love it if yall would send me pictures of beautiful women to contradict that 💖

THE LAST OF US Season 2, Episode 6: The Price
okay somewhat positive posts over- what the FUCK was that finale 😭
I need people that are accusing Oliver Stark and Ryan Guzman of queerbaiting to STOPPP. Good lord guys, they have done so much to avoid this very thing and yet here some people are, harassing them (get Tim Minear or ABC instead!!).
Also, season 9 has yet to come out! I know some of yall are dooming and closing, and that’s your prerogative, but Buck and Eddie are SINGLE going into season 9. Maybe wait a sec?
Although you’re welcome to resume once we get to season 9 and one of them gets a girlfriend/boyfriend or something that otherwise permanently shuts them down. Until then, nothing has been permanently shut down. This end of season 8 has been poorly written, but that is one storyline that wasn’t closed, and to me that feels intentional!
In an effort to not make a rant post screaming about all the reasons the last ~6 episodes have made me want to chew on tiny shards of glass, I’m going to do this instead.
I am just a teensy bit relieved buddie didn’t kiss or do anything major in the finale.

I completely understand why it feels like we took several steps back. I also don’t blame anyone for closing on buddie. This *does* feel like queerbait.
This post is simply why I think it’s not.
Had Buck and Eddie kissed in the finale, it would’ve felt really, really good in the moment. YES, vindication! Romance WAS there all along! But then when season 9 came along and 3-4 months of their relationship had been skipped, it wouldn’t feel so good. Buddie would be canon, but it would not feel satisfying because seasons upon seasons of buildup to their relationship would’ve been lost by us missing their transition from friends to lovers. I am a friends to lovers girl through and through, and TRUST ME. That transition period is incredibly important to us as an audience (Think Booth and Brennan in Bones, and the unsatisfying way their relationship went from platonic to romantic. I do nottttt want that for buddie).
I also, personally, didn’t want them to get together when their grief over Bobby is so fresh. I want them to be a comfort for each other, and we did not get enough of it for it to feel…unrushed. I honestly think they lost the chance the make Buddie canon this season the second they stuck the 118 in that bio lab.
However, even though I’ve lost almost all of my faith in the showrunner and the writers of this goddamned show, a piece of me still believes that buddie has to happen, and now they have a whole season to build them up. And I think they will, because otherwise this will be the wildest, heaviest form of queerbait to exist. To introduce the idea of Buck and Eddie being romantic in canon? That needs a follow through. To do a press run with Oliver Stark and Ryan Guzman talking about buddie without explicitly shutting it down? There’s no way. They have written Buck and Eddie into a corner, and it screams intentional because the other option is literally fucking evil. Like actually evil.
Anyway. The opportunity is there. Buck and Eddie are both single. They’re both back at the 118. Eddie has worked out his relationship with Chris (mostly offscreen, don’t EVEN get me started on that shit). Buck’s ex canonically saw Eddie as competition. Their grief for Bobby will still be there (hopefully), but it’ll be several months in the future and they’ll have had time to find a way forward. The set up IS THERE. The time to develop it is there! (It was fucking there before but I’m ignoring that for this post)
Now they just need to follow through!
Anyway, I’ve seen a lot of doom and gloom about this, and I get it. I’m honestly right there with you. I’m just attempting to piece myself back together in the form of hope that Tim Minear isn’t the stupidest person on this planet (though he’s definitely up there for killing Bobby….???????? What the actual fuck is wrong with him.)
okay so I still think Bobby is fr dead (I have way less faith in the showrunners than a lot of you) BUT it would be THE funniest possible outcome if Bobby was alive and that whole storyline was used as a distraction for buddie canon.
(I think buddie canon is in the bag either way - it’s the only thing that makes narrative sense with their storylines moving forward, regardless of the grief - I just happen to think Bobby being alive would make the whole thing infinitely more funny)
i think it's important to point out that eddie's parents stole his kid and were letting people believe they were christopher's parents, yet eddie was gentle as he announced he was taking his son back. yeah, he was petty and left his dad in lubbock, but he also kissed his mom on the forehead as he went to leave.
meanwhile, he is willing to scream and cry and point his finger in buck's face. because he is safe with buck in a way he isn't safe with his parents. the difference is SO LOUD. eddie can't be messy there. they are watching his every move, so he has to keep himself together. but with buck, he knows he can fall apart, and buck will still be there. and that's why LA (buck) will always be home. and why el paso (his parents) can never be.
