forgot that being obsessed with fictional characters is not something normal people do. I hear someone say they’re too obsessed with a fictional character and for a moment I’m like “???? and what about it? isn’t that like??? normal???” then I realize that for a lot of people, it’s not.
I genuinely cannot imagine not being obsessed with the characters from the media I hyperfixate on and I genuinely cannot imagine not having a piece of media to hyperfixate on 😭

a/n: based on this request
The air was filled with smoke and the shouts of men. The mechanical creaking of mech suits and static voices coming through comms were grating against the backdrop of a never-ending siren blaring from the train car. Around you, guns and arrows set ablaze, cutting through the thickness that never thinned when enemies marched near.
You pulled back your arm, elbow high and sure, arm stiff at the tension between the bowstring and the feathered tail arrow. Your eyes locked along the arrow's tip, where at the end stood a human man in the false safety of a metal suit and thick glass. He fired without reason, just aiming at the sky, hoping to hit anything at all. The warriors around you dodged seamlessly, their ikrans steering them clear of the onslaught of metal bullets.
You steadied yourself, trying to take aim, to look for an opening that lasted long enough to hit your target, but there were too many in your way. You risked hurting your own if you shot from this distance. So you closed the gap, your ikran soaring with a vengeance towards the man, his back turned to you, unsuspecting. You took aim once more. And right as you loosened your grip, the man turned, his gun pointed directly to you, his fingers applying the beginnings of pressure on the trigger. There was no hesitation in your fingers as you released, the arrow spinning through the air. But before it could reach and embed through the glass and into the man's skull, an array of bullets barrelled into him, knocking him down and dead, and your arrow soared past where he once stood and lodged into the metal of the traincar.
"Baby!"
A familiar voice cut through the incessant noise around you. Jake came bounding in, hopping off his ikran just as you did, his footsteps hurried even with the weight of the gun strapped to his chest. His large hands found your arms, hovering, barely touching in fear of hurting you. His breathing was shallow as his eyes flicked over your body. The worry on his face was aching. He was painted with your fingerprints. The lines down the ridge of his nose, the hollows of his cheek, to the handprints on the rounds of his shoulders and below his sternum, he was coloured in blue and green and white. You wore a similar artistry made by his own thick fingers.
He turned you over almost obsessively. With too much care for the ongoing raid stifling the air around you both. Yet the worry in his eyes made it all slow and muffled. Like you were both surrounded by an invisible force that harboured protection of such displays of love.
"Are you hurt? Anything hit you?" he asked, voice breathy with concern. Another once over and he sighed, tension leaving his shoulders as he took your face in his hands, thumbs smoothing the skin below your eyes and his fingers spanning to the back of your head. Protective. A shield. His forehead thumped lightly against your own, the warmth from him soothing in a way you had never experienced before him. "I was so worried. That was way too close, baby. Maybe you should stick by me, just to be extra careful."
"Ma jake, do not be ridiculous." Despite your words, your voice was soft when speaking to him. Your hand cupped his that rested on your cheeks. You leaned in impossibly close to his touch. "I could handle myself."
"I know, I know," he sighed, "just... he almost shot you down."
"I would have dodged."
"Still. You could never be too sure."
You gave him a gentle smile. "The raid is almost over, you must not lose focus." Your eyes swept over the rapidly dwindling numbers of the RDA personnel tasked with delivering the supply cart. "I will be fine." You tightened your fingers on his, "I promise"
He swallowed, eyes shut and head bobbing in reluctant understanding. "Alright..alright."
You slowly peeled his hands away, planting a small peck on his knuckles before dropping them and calling for your ikran.
When the raid ended, cheers and undulations of boisterous young warriors echoed, the sound bringing a smile to your face. You shuffled through the trunks that had been pulled out from the cart, sorting out anything the villages needed: guns, med packs, comms, route maps. You discarded useless stuff from the trunks and strapped only the necessary items to your ikran.
Heavy steps from behind came closer. You did not need to look back to know who it was. The pattern of his walk was ingrained in your brain. Once the trunk was tied securely, you turned, but before you could utter a word, his eyes zeroed in on your shoulder.
"Baby, you're hurt," he said the words like the reality of them were an insult to him.
You looked down, questioning eyes searching yourself before landing on the cut along your arm, right below your shoulder. It was small, and thin and so shallow that only a single drop of blood beaded on the cut itself. It was more of a graze than a wound.
His hand gently pulled at your arm, bringing it closer to get a better look. Your mouth twitched, keeping your soft laughter at bay at the sight of the deathly grave expression on his face. One look from a bystander and they would think you were dying the way he glared at the wound like it had personally done him wrong. Jake was ever the dramatic man. He acted as if you were made of gold and sunlight, not flesh and bone that could tear and break. As if any injury upon you was an affront to the great mother.
"We've got to get you to the healers. Quick."
You shot him a flat, yet amused look. "Ma Jake, it is a scratch."
He ignored you, turning to the others, signalling it was time to wrap up and head back.
Once the ikrans had touched down, Jake took you in his arms, carrying you to the tsahik's tent like the overly dramatic man he was. He ripped open the flap and gently placed you on one of the healing mats. Mo'at was inside, sorting through her supplies ready for the line of injured warriors who would come to her for aid. She looked up from her work with a sort of dull acclimation to a man's never-ending dramaticism.
"Mo'at," he called out, his hands on your shoulder as if you would topple over from your own weight, "she is hurt."
She looked at you. You shrugged.
She did not say anything but when her aged eyes fell on the supposed wound that stained you, you could feel the flat look she sent his way. He, however, did not notice, too focus on you. he sat too near, holding your hand of your uninjured arm, rubbing soothing circles that sent a warm flutter to your chest. His tail, ever a mind of its own, wrapped around your thigh, gripping like roots of great redwood trees, but warm like sunbeaten soil.
Warriors filed in, ones with actual injuries that left them limping and clutching at their sides. Yet they spared you both amused glances, already used to Jake's behaviour. No complaint left their lips, and they settled in cots and let the healers work. Mo'at was finished before you could draw a second breath, the wound wrapped nicely. You shot her an apologetic look as she moved on to one of the injured.
"Come on, baby," he held a hand out for you as he stood, "let's get you cleaned up."
The entire walk back to your kelku, Jake's hand did not leave your lower back, his fingers splayed right above the space where the base of your tail was. He walked with you tucked into his side, your feet grazing his with every step. He was your shield, ready to stop anything that threatened to jump out at you. Your eyes locked onto the side of his face, his jaw twisted in a mix of buzzing worry and hardened protectiveness that made your chest warm.
In your kelku, he eased you down on the floor before pulling a full bucket he had stashed before the mission on the off chance either of you did not leave unscathed. With a soft rag in hand, he dipped it into the water and wrung the excess out before carefully passing it along your skin. The water was refreshingly cool.
"Ma Jake, there really is no need for this. It was simply a scratch. I could clean myself by the stream."
He shook his head, not stopping his self-given task. "Baby, you're hurt."
"It is a scratch." You echoed.
"Doesn't matter. It shouldn't have happened. I'm supposed to look after you. Protect you." The water turned into a misty green from the paint.
"You are very hard on yourself."
"No….It just pains me to see you bleed."
You sighed, tilting your head as the cloth brushed along your neck. You let him be. You let him revere you like a devotee cleaning a deity. That was what you were to Jake. You were his meaning. His reason for living. He could not stand to see you hurt.
His hand held your jaw, steadying your face as he slowly dragged the cloth down your nose. Your eyes met his. So much love inside those tiny orbs of gold. Electric sparks crackled between you two like they always did since the day you both met.
Once he was done with you, you took the cloth and did the same to him, washing away the grime and sweat that stuck to the planes of his body.
Now clean and refreshed, you both sat in the crowd, in the shade away from the blistering heat of midday sun that swirled in ribbons along the camp.
You sat pressed against Jake's side, his arm around your back, keeping you as close as possible. In front of your crossed legs was a singular leaf plate, filled with enough food to fill you both. Jake dipped his hand onto the plate, scooping up some teylu and holding it up to your lips. In reflex, your mouth opened, taking his offering with graciousness.
You could not remember the last time you fed yourself when Jake was near. He preferred to feed you from his own hands, claiming it was to ensure you ate enough after that one time you went to bed without dinner. You had rolled your eyes once, but now you could not imagine him near and not feeding you like this. He never rushed, and never forced food down your throat. He simply kept a firm hand in making sure you were healthy.
"Come on baby, one more," he held up the last piece of fruit to you, waiting for you to swallow your previous bite. You took the sweet fruit from his fingers, leaning onto his shoulder as you savoured the flavour. He wiped away a bead of dripping juice from the corner of your mouth as the hand on your back traveled up your hips, to your waist, to your shoulder, cradling your head to him.
With the plate clean and your stomach full, Jake felt satiated. A soft rumble vibrated from your chest, serenity oozing from your pores. You both nuzzled against each other, letting the peace of the day linger.
You felt Jake's hand tighten slightly. Not enough to hurt you.
You groggily peeled your eyes open that had fallen shut unknowingly, looking up at him. His eyes were sharp, looking ahead. You followed his eyeline to a young hunter across the crowd, whose eyes barely glanced at you before catching Jake's murderous gaze and turning back to his friends.
You let out a small puff of air through your nose, humoured by him. "Ma, Jake." It took a moment for his eyes to rip away from the young man, instantly losing its sharp edge when they fell on your content form. Your hand brushed along his jaw. His body turned pliant at your touch. "Let us rest."
"Tired?" he whispered, lips brushing against your ear, and hand now kneading at the flesh of your thigh.
"Mhmm," your eyes were closed, the tempting call of sleep washing over you. You felt his lips warm on your hairline as you slowly went under, embracing the warmth your protector supplied to you, snuggled in his arms like you belonged there.
I'm gonna start shooting if i hear again someone saying that Jake's words "you've proven yourself to me" to Lo'ak were about Lo'ak being worthy of his love. Because THEY WERE NOT??
He literally told him that Lo'ak finally showed himself as someone to rely on in life-death situation. Someone who Jake can give a gun and FINALLY be sure Lo'ak wouldn't ignore his orders when it's most important. And this is why Lo'ak had been waiting for these exact words so much, he wanted his dad to accept his as a worthy warrior. He knows Jake loves him. He just wants to be something bigger than just being a son, that's what is called growing up, fellas.
Random question - do you think when sully kids were small Jake made kites for them?
I think this is something Jake definitely did for the kids, especially when they got to the age where they started asking him questions about life on Earth. I think the kids would love them, especially Tuk because she’s so bubbly and curious. Jake would feel so much pride seeing the kids using the kites he crafted for them and having so much fun playing with them!!
It would be so funny/cute if other kids got jealous of the sully kids having this unique toy ans wishing they had one bc it looks fun. So then, the kids volunteer Jake to make kites for them too so now he’s just making all these kites for village kids😭.
